What a beautifully done th-cam.com/users/postUgkxYGamVaHfdHiPlAQaLa7zkwR02OKpGYDU ! The instructions and the photographs are brilliant. It is thorough and genuinely informative. Ryan got another winner! No one does it better!
It is a very good book for beginners as well as for those that are already into th-cam.com/users/postUgkxTNB_zFBSnTo_O1PqfVUwgi7ityw0JlKt A very good basic ebook to keep as a reference too. I like it and the way the subject matter is presented. It has humor and that helps with the reading.
Thank You! I'm renting a brake tomorrow. Your first tip upfront about unrolling the aluminum from within the box, alone, made the video worthy. I was already concerned about the headache of dealing with the 50 ft roll of aluminum. That said, the entire video was exactly what I needed! Thanks for taking the time to make it!
Two tips if you’re renting a break… 1) adjust the tension correctly before you start work. Figure out the brand and you can get instructions online. Tension has to be tight enough and EVEN, otherwise your pieces will creep when bending, ruining the piece 2) CLEAN the inside of the jaws and the hinge. The clowns who rent those breaks will leave them full of aluminum chips from cutting that will scratch the hell out of your coil stock, again ruining it.
If you only do a half bend after scoring it takes a few more up & down movements on the metal to separate but you will have a clean edge on both pieces of metal. Also whatever side of metal you score will leave a shiny edge where the paint was removed. You can flip the metal & cut the back side so the finished side has a perfect edge if the edge will be exposed. Love the videos!
In 2009 we didn't have enough fence work,so I installed vinyl siding. I bent all the fascia, rolled a profile with a van Mark. The one I always struggled with was the birdbox ,where the gable fascia meets soffit, and lower fascia. One important thing to note,a hem in addition to being stronger..also will not slice your hands !
I have been looking for a simple break demo on YT for years and I am so glad I didn't give up. Like everything you do, it's done right and explained well
2 years of experience on a cnc press brake and im amazed what you can do with this brake, i look forward to getting one for a business idea soon. Good stuff brother.
Awesome tutorial! Thank you. We are beginners. We are going to use our brake for the first time today. We have a 50' roll...wondered how to get out the 7' pieces we need - great tip! Also, nice info on how to cut to the desired widths! We don't have that nifty slitter that you have...so hand scoring will have to work for now! Thank you again - best tutorial I've seen!
Thanks for the video , just a few months into using a brake for aluminum , loved the tips and tricks , especially the box !! Had 50 feet uncoil on me the other day , and i almost had a meltdown , lol
Thanks for the really informative and helpful tutorial. I just bought my first brake this evening and start using it for a simple job tomorrow. Great video!
You can use a digital angle gauge on your phone in combined with a magnetic digital angle gauge stuck to the bender to get dead on angles, in most cases you don't need this much accuracy though but it's a cheap add-on.
I doubt anyone will dispute the fact that you’re a master bender. Great demonstration, the tip on getting the metal out the box without it getting out of control you gave in the beginning was great, although you never mentioned how to easily cut it to length and what is best to cut it with...
thank you sir for this video and the help that you are showing to score the aluminum with the utility knife. I used to use that method on the metal frame I told a guy from peru that you can scored the metal and you snip the sides and bended back and forward and it will cut a straight line and a colombian guy was the boss and they fired me because I told them that you can do that and after 15 years I can see that someone else do this thank you again
Epic stuff! I'm an installer and watching up close, that is some untapped creativity waiting to be priceless on custom homes. Thanks for the insight of breaking trim. Great video
i dont mean to be offtopic but does anybody know a method to get back into an instagram account..? I stupidly lost the account password. I love any tricks you can give me!
@Judson Brian thanks for your reply. I found the site on google and Im trying it out atm. Seems to take a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I have zero reason to ever use this in my business.. I just enjoy watching your videos and I.G. feed so thank you for sharing but....how is this so hypnotic to watch haha. Extremely talented. I envy your ability in all you do in construction.
This is really helpful. I needed to re-cover columns on my porch and saved money by renting a brake and doing it myself. Not something I've ever done. Your video was the best I could find and allowed me to do the work myself.
I SO loved this video!! I used to work for a HVAC contractor and was also the sheetmetal guy. I made all of the custom sized duct work, bases for equipment, drip pans, etc. We also built cap steel, gutter and down spouts for a local roofing company. Those were by far my favorite days!! Slitting steel, measuring and marking, and then the best part.....flipping steel to make those caps, gutters and spouts. The slitter you have is awesome. We had a power slit that was less than consistent, However it beat using the old Malco hand shears! Also the material we general used was 22 ga paint grip, or occasionally the painted aluminum like your using today. Alum was so much more fun to throw around!Loved seeing this vid, as it took me back to those days of throwing steel around the shop. The boss would come out and tease me because on these days, I ran all the service guys out of the shop, cranked the radio, and got into my groove. I'm going to have to go visit the old shop and see about making some bends!!
I never use one, however I always want to know how to, you were good enough for my education. You were honest about how much you know. You shared what you have learned. You are very clear in the presentation.
Awesome video bro. I too love using the brake. Whenever you do vinyl siding the guys always give me the job of working the brake because of my aptitude with it and how quick I am on it They don't call me kevy metal for nothing! But definitely learned a couple of Tricks here that I didn't know
Great explanation Kyle. Thank you. Never used a brake , now I know how to . I needed a corner bend for a job I am doing tomorrow and I learned a lot about bending trim.
We always use a few 2x12s on saw horses behind the brake as a layout table. And to stop the coil from unrolling we use a spring clamp on the roll to keep it intact.
My brother who is a roofing contractor, has a fully functioning 2’ (give or take) display model that he’ll take on the roof to bend chimney flashings that need a “custom” fit.
Okay Boss, let's see you make a cube (any size) with one piece of aluminum and the brake. Enjoying the videos and look forward to the finish of the man cave.
Kyle, I have used coil stock and break to make trim to cover the moulding on walk in doors to have a maintenance free trim. I have also seen it used to make a simple square to cover the posts that are exposed under a porch roof.
If you dont fully bend the aluminum after you score it with the razor it wont roll the edge. So basically only bend it around 15° first then work it back down and repeat that a few times it'll usually give you a crisper edge. But the splitter is the way to go if you can afford it like you said. Great vids man. Btw that brake is absolutely massive lmao
i love your video so much, thanks for all the little tips like how to dispensing the material from the box... thank you please keep making more video, is so awesome to learn specially for people like me new to the world of home improvement ..
Great video. Always had trouble doing bends. you make it so easy. Expertance shows. the hardest bends are the ones that have to be custom, used art boaed for the patterns. Thanks for the visual references.
I never realized you could hem with a hand brake. Thought it might be possible to crimp it between the clamp but probably awkward as heck. Can't wait to try it when it warms here.
If you want the crease in your hem tighter or more flat you can also put the hem in the clamp side of your brake and clamp it. Works great and really flattens out that him if you need it to be completely flat. A word of caution, if you do it frequently you will have to adjust your brake more often.
So when cutting material with utility knife never slice into the hinge. second only bed to 90 deg. You won't get that bent over edge. Btw you rock... keep the. Coming
I have the sidewinder on my break holds the coil rite in the end roll out and cut to length with the wheel. Also have the break buddy that makes the fancy details in the metal like brick mould profile and ribbon
Eavestrougher here. You do great work but Ive got a bone to pick with the drip edge you bent. If you put that extra bend on the fascia part it kicks the bottom of the trough out from the fascia- unless it's bent to be below the trough so at least 3 1/2" or more to allow for some grade on the eavestrough. Personally I prefer drip edge that doesn't overlap the fascia at all but has a good long drip on it so the water is directed into the trough and won't wick back.

Hands down the best builder on the internet making the best videos for others to learn from. Thankyou sir!
This is the most helpful video I have found on using a metal brake. Thank you for the very detailed explainations

2 years of experience on a cnc press brake and im amazed what you can do with this brake, i look forward to getting one for a business idea soon. Good stuff brother.
A magnetic digital angle gauge can increase speed and accuracy and help muscle memory for specific angles. Never seen anyone else do it.

Haven’t done any metal work for awhile, bringing out the old brake today ,this was great for my refresher and some new things
I’ve listened to this every job getting used to custom flashing. Good works all around much appreciated
I think this video is priceless for someone with a brake and doing construction. Thanks, well done!
Thanks for the video , just a few months into using a brake for aluminum , loved the tips and tricks , especially the box !! Had 50 feet uncoil on me the other day , and i almost had a meltdown , lol
This was just like shop-class. I bought a small brake yesterday. I won't even tell you how I was trying to hem the metal. Thanks man.
That cutter that slides on the break was the coolest thing. Mind blown.
Yeah buddy. Makes it effortless and perfect
That thing is bad ass
I've seen most of your videos and now stumbled on this one. You're an exceptional teacher and I'm a fan! thank you
Omg! That coil dispenser trick is priceless! Wish I saw this a few could ago! I'm the type that overlooks the simple ideas.. thanks
Agreed!!!!
Thanks for the really informative and helpful tutorial. I just bought my first brake this evening and start using it for a simple job tomorrow. Great video!

I haven't used a brake in years. Great refresher video and confidence builder. The coil box tip is working smarter not harder! Thanks!
Be careful I seen 2 guys pinch there fingers off

Very nice brake! That was one of those “right place at the right time” moments when you bought that puppy. Thanks for the vid!
Really enjoyed, thanks. BTW, a good source for aluminum roll material is the seamless gutter guys. A bazillion colors too.
thank you sir for this video and the help that you are showing to score the aluminum with the utility knife. Best toolsday to date. I could watch this kind of stuff all day. Nice work sir.
Thanks Mitch
First time braker here. The box trick will help a lot!
I appreciate the video. I haven't used a brake in 16 years so its a nice refresher.
Epic stuff! I'm an installer and watching up close, that is some untapped creativity waiting to be priceless on custom homes. Thanks for the insight of breaking trim. Great video

@Judson Brian it worked and I actually got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thank you so much, you saved my ass !
@Ira Christian glad I could help =)
Great video!! One of the most comprehensive DIY vids I’ve seen in a long time. I appreciate that you’re not a bumbling dummy!!
I have zero reason to ever use this in my business.. I just enjoy watching your videos and I.G. feed so thank you for sharing but....how is this so hypnotic to watch haha. Extremely talented. I envy your ability in all you do in construction.
Thanks Darren I appreciate that

I think a toolsday video based around your machinery would be pretty cool. Just putting a bug in your ear, keep up the great videos.
Thank you very much. You answered basically all my questions about bends I didn’t know, radius bend was the best thanks again.
I SO loved this video!! I used to work for a HVAC contractor and was also the sheetmetal guy. Good work. Thanks for your wisdom. Just got my Tapco Pro 19 and it would be my first time-bending.
Thank you
I am building my own garage and this was very helpful
First time working with metal
I never use one, however I always want to know how to, you were good enough for my education. You were honest about how much you know. You shared what you have learned. You are very clear in the presentation.
Im a carpenter and home inspector. I never used a break very much. Nice video
Very well done video with perfect picture clarity. This is the best TH-cam instruction on this topic. Learned a lot.
just saved me some money on a coil roller! thanks! this is only temporary though until I can get better at trim and then get a coil roller
Really useful video for a person just getting into bending metal. Thanks for making the video.
Man...Kyle, I wanna be like you! Thx for the videos. Love the shop!
For some reason I've always been intimidated to do this, but this video made it look so simple, very interesting
Awesome video bro. I too love using the brake. Whenever you do vinyl siding the guys always give me the job of working the brake because of my aptitude with it and how quick I am on it They don't call me kevy metal for nothing! But definitely learned a couple of Tricks here that I didn't know
excellent.
I traded for a brake, to make my own trim. I feel way more confident I can do this now.
Hemming the edges takes the quality up to a whole new level. You won't find that stocked at the big box stores. 👍🏻
I really like all your videos man. Especially the build ones. You’ve inspired me to start a build series on our home.
Thanks for sharing your hard earned knowledge Kyle. Always interesting.
Great explanation Kyle. Thank you. Never used a brake , now I know how to . I needed a corner bend for a job I am doing tomorrow and I learned a lot about bending trim.
Awesome video. I was on the fence about renting a metal brake and doing it myself but this video definitely persuaded me
THANKS For your time i got my first break yesterday . They have one at the shop but someone runs it. THANKS AGAIN
That coil trick helped me for sure
Nice, been on the lookout for a brake at the right price for a couple years. You got a killer deal!
Great camera work. My break has paid for it self many times over. Must have piece of equipment
Thanks for the lesson sir you have open a part of my brain that's going to help me in the future much respect thanks again 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Best channel on TH-cam! Thanks for all the great content!

I used to do the box trick. Tapco sidewinder is a worthwhile purchase.
Man I never thought to put a hem at the top of the facia metal to avoid wrinkles . Thanks for the video
Great video. Bright and sharp video quality makes such a difference.
Great work and thanks for showing us all the tricks God continue to bless you boss.👍👍👍
Wow, that box trick is awesome!
best video yet. love the tip with the box
Okay Boss, let's see you make a cube (any size) with one piece of aluminum and the brake. Enjoying the videos and look forward to the finish of the man cave.
Thanks for the very informative video. Just got a small finger brake (30") more for brackets and pans but this is very interesting. Take care. Doug
Very encouraging video to all DIY. Your last work was great. I've a VanMark 12' and I make her scream down in the basement!
This is really great info and demonstration. Excellent

You can use a angle gauge on your phone, then use a magnetic digital angle gauge on the bender to get any slope right on.
thank you for shearing your skills.
I never realized you could hem with a hand brake. Thought it might be possible to crimp it between the clamp but probably awkward as heck. Can't wait to try it when it warms here.
Bad to the bone Jr. Great skills. Great presentation. Thank you sir.
Wow very nice work
Great video, very helpful tricks, especially the coil dispenser !!!
That was awesome... you make it look so easy.

Solid tip on the coil. Much appreciated 🙏
Very nice demo. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and technique.
Very nice craftmanship
Thanks kyle! Im sure videos like this are a ton of work. I really appreciate the info.
Great video. Always wondered how a brake works.
Great video! Pretty cool how you can do a radius on a break.
Yeah it’s a cool trick... not perfect but looks pretty good
Great tip. Doing this for 12 years i didnt know how to cut he coil box to used as a metal dispenser
Those magnetic measure things are cool. Wow.
Thank you so much! This made my project so much easier.
Thanks so much trim can be intimidating great video..
That’s awesome man this is exactly what I do every day love watching how other people do there work
Do you know any way a handyman without that device can do the same?.
So when cutting material with utility knife never slice into the hinge. second only bed to 90 deg. You won't get that bent over edge.
Btw you rock... keep the. Coming
Good tips
I need to go back to work soon- brake is going on my need -to-get list.
Really wish I saw this earlier, very much appreciated
Awesome vid, nice break. The only thing I noticed was twice not locking the break down to finish hems
Awesome work!! Fascia bends are great.
I have the sidewinder on my break holds the coil rite in the end roll out and cut to length with the wheel. Also have the break buddy that makes the fancy details in the metal like brick mould profile and ribbon
I need one of those
I like those gauges you got just ordered at set hate taking tape out 100x when bending
you are a great teacher!!!
Great video. I have a lot of custom trim to do on my silo house build and am looking to get a break.
Another Great informative Video !
