Been here almost 10 years, paid 60% of our income between tax, child care and rent, we took zero subsidies. In the same situation as most millennials in terms of housing affordability on top of all the cost of living crap of recent.

Good changes. Australia is only for those who serve it and deserve it. We need highly skilled migrants, proficient in English and also students who want higher education as a goal not residency (or just residency). Over all its quality of people we want to import. Similarly, we should raise standards internally as well. This country should only have fine talent.

ffs, i live 45 minutes from sydney CBD, yet just another 500M up the road they rely on a TRUCK to CART WATER AROUND. another 5km and the power lines end. another 10km and the road vanishes and you have to use a FERRY, that hasnt been replaced since 1973, and it shows... but, thats not in the "budget", is it? more important to SHOVE TWELVE STORIE HIGHRISE IN!!!! they can park on that little single lane road on either side... make sure its a one way, and takes at least a fifteen minute detour to get to...
no parking,no public transport, single lane roads of mostly patches and potholes. and yet more developments approved... yay.

Australian people are getting free TAFE and increasing their skills. Australian people are skilled people. I think employers hire migrants to cut the cost of wages. That is why the government increased the minimum wage for migrant skilled workers. If you are not from English speaking countries, you need to prepare to work wherever regardless of your qualifications. Discrimination is still widely spread. The White Australian are dominated in the well paid jobs.

The Australian government wants to reduce immigration. The housing market for both rental and buying has imploded in the last 18months,there is simply not enough housing available to meet the needs of the population thus the reduction of immigrants both temporary or permanent is the obvious way to help improve the situation. As an Australian resident in Sydney it breaks my heart when my adult children can’t afford to either rent or buy anywhere near the neighbourhood that they grew up in, they both earn good wages and we don’t live in an upscale suburb. I wholly support the government’s new changes to visa applications. PS 😡😡it would hep if you put the Australian flag up when talking about Australia not the New Zealand flag

Selling Education especially Higher education is the No 2 or 3 forign income earn business in Australia. Students from Asian countries spend millions of dollars for education in Australia with better future prospects. But Australian government needs only money and time to time they change their visa requirements. That is the reason most of the students change their courses.

    Well
Biggest slap on the wrist for Indian students and workers.
After having been rejected by Canada , now Australia tightens the screws.
While housing, infrastructure is indeed a problem, and so are undercutting local workers, the govt should realise that many students also bring in a lot of money to the economy.
How these universities are utilising these funds is to be examined as well.
Another welcome step was increasing the english proficiency level. This would really help seperate the genuine students from the those intending to work.

In providing university visas, we should not lower our standards of entry nor our standards of graduation. Unfortunately it seems that our universities have lowered both in the name of the almighty $.

Emerging global powers like China and India must network with other powers like Russia and Turkye to wean the Global South away from western hegemony that entraps poor countries in perpetual dependency and civil war and consequently refugees or economic migrants. This way, we can reduce the attraction of Australia as an escape route from poverty and injustice. Laws and borders will have limited relevance in future decades.

Albanese made an absolute dogs breakfast with migration.
    1) He brought in way too many people, so now there is a huge housing shortage.
    2) The people he brought in are not qualified to fill the skills shortage industries like healthcare, construction, mechanical trades, hospitality etc..
So there is still the same shortage.

As an Australian there is one thing I cannot stand and that is queue jumper’s and it think most other Australians would agree. If you want to come and live in our country you do it the right way and that is not overstaying your visa and/or arriving by illegal boats. This Labor government has been pretty awful but I totally agree with them with any changes they make in protecting this country from people who cannot be bothered following the rules of entry because if they do not follow those rules it is more than likely they will not follow our laws once they are here.

Our people born and lived in Australia have choice to study or work at an early age and might think of university education in their later age while international students go overseas to study right away with the support of their parents or their own savings or scholarships from a sponsor.
