Just seeing people face up to the damn noise and smile about the gift of life helps me fight the anxiety & depression i get. I wish you well. Cheers from TX.
I was in the army for only four year’s, never went on tour yet they still managed to damage my hearing. Just before I was due to be discharged I was put on a weeks shooting exercise two weeks before getting out. Most the week was fine but on the second the last day there was a night shoot inside a building I has ear plugs and my issued ear muffs on. I was taken onto the top floor and started shooting the targets every time I use a mag I would throw it on the ground someone would bomb it up and roll in back to me this went on for around 30minutes and at the end I had some full mags left and someone picked them up and started firing next to me. At the end I must of fired around 600+ rounds with the sa80 indoors. my left ear was ringing for a couple day but went away on my medical getting out my hearing test went through with no problem. But now two year’s later I have moderately serve high frequency hearing loss and tinnitus in my left ear. I know that damaged was caused that day as it was the only time before I ever suffered from tinnitus and that much noise exposure. I blame myself everyday I’m only 31 and had perfect hearing but I followed orders and probably would do the same thing not knowing that’s what a soldier does follow commands I never knew nothing about NIHL and most people my age don’t. I’ve suffered PTSD from that day they damaged my hearing and gave me tinnitus I was getting out in two weeks time. I’ve lost everything since then my four year relationship broke down , I had to leave my Job as a paramedic. I’ve not even be able to get the strength to file a claim yet as it’s just too much depressing. They ruined me for no reason that night and blame myself for joining the army everyday. I’ve lost my confidence my perfect health and my once perfect hearing it’s just jack honestly. Now all I do is research for a cure to get my life back on track. My mother also passed away this year in February at 71 and I was diagnosed in November with my hearing loss because my I noticed my tinnitus over covid lockdown. I completely understand what you’re situation has done it’s worse than mine and you’ve seen more in your longer spent so I know it’s not easy for you either.
