- Full walkthrough of a CV1 hack. Story (from a description on romhacking.net):
"1476, Romania. A terrifying castle rises up from the mist. Along with the castle rose a dark powerful being named Count Dracula Vlad Tepes. A man named Trevor Belmont was fated to defeat the powerful vampire, aided by a witch named Sypha, Dracula's own son Alucard, and a pirate named Grant DeNasty. Together the team traversed the dark halls of Castlevania, defeating the count and his countless minions.
In 1777 a young child was born, and abandoned on a merchant ship with nothing but a headband with a mysterious crest, and the name Armund. The sailors raised the child on the high seas, and taught him the ways of being a sailor. Armund grew to be one of the greatest men that the merchant ship ever saw.
Late 1797, word started to spread of the legends of Count Dracula, and his tyranny in the land of Romania. It was about that time, that Armund ran into an old Romanian man in Serbia. The old man knew a lot about the history of Count Dracula, and his reign of terror in Romania. The old man recognized the crest on Armund's bandanna, and told him that it belonged to the DeNasty clan, and that his ancestor helped defeat Dracula. Armund decided to leave his life on the high seas to seek out more answers about his ancestry.
Romania, 1800. It's been 3 years since Alucard defeated his father in battle and has gone into eternal slumber. Armund's search has taken him to the mountains of Romania, not far from the town of Jova. A mysterious letter hinted that he might be able to find answers in the castle of Count Olrox, a servant of Count Dracula's. Armund set out of Olrox's castle, armed only with an enchanted barbed rope from Serbia. This will truly be the greatest and most arduous adventure of Armund DeNasty's life."
This is a very good hack and it changes almost everything from original game. Difficulty is a little too high at times, though. But still, I recommend everyone to play it.
This game, and Holy Relics are by far the best Castlevania rom hacks there is. It's like playing 2 new games. And both were made by the same guy who calls himself Optomon/Optovania. Made some really good homebrews as well. Rollie is imo one of the best NES games ever made.
I just dropped in to say that world needs a hacked Castlevania game where you play as characters from Scooby Doo.
Agreed
Finally, someone figures out the "intended" method to defeat Slogra. That boss's difficulty level was the biggest mistake I made while making this game, because when everyone gets to him, they basically say "F**k this $#!t!", and turn off the game. In the (half-hearted) words of Kofi Annan: "NEVER AGAIN".
Thanks for the input. Bosses are almost always the most challenging part while making these projects, but I feel they arguably have the most significant impact on the player.
Death has always been an indispensable character in the Castlevania franchise. He is the second most powerful adversary next to Dracula. If Death is not in a Castlevania game, then it is not a Castlevania game!
NES game hackers should all study this game and learn how to make a good hack.
This is definitely the best Castlevania rom hack I've played. I've beaten it twice on a cartridge and am going for my third time today.
where did you get the cartridge?
Try Holy Relics, it's amazing.
Tartuffe the Spry Wonder Dog Agreed. Holy Relics feels less like a hack and more like a whole different game. Like something Konami made way back then but never released it until recently.
Holy Telics is amazing fã made game.
I FINALLY beat this game tonight! I watched this vid to help figure out some of the nasty boss battles. Thank you. One of the best rom hacks I've played other than Holy Relics.
...now if I could only beat Castlevania 3.......
Optomon always makes the best music
Thanks for all your CV hack videos. These are super interesting to me but I'd never have time to hunt them down and play them myself so I can at least have them on in the background while I work.
A Castlevania game where Death is the final boss? Huh, that's pretty neat. I guess it makes sense given the book "Akumajo Dracula: Kabuchi no Tsuisoukyoku", which has Olrox as the main villain while Death views him as a traitor. Although the novel takes place sometime at or around 2035 while this story only takes place 3 years after SOTN.
Anyway, great hack! Loved it.
death is the final boss of castelvania lament of innocence also.
Rob Sheldon
Never played that one. Guess I'll have to now.
+MSOGameShow its one of the 3d ones so most people havent. really never thought the 3d one were to bad myself besides castelvania 64.
@MSOGameShow
Kabuchi No Tsuisoukyoku takes place in 2037, one year after DoS.
@@TheBanishedWind Is that story part of the canon?
To be continued in "Castlevania: Order Of Ecclesia"
Good hack! I like the fact that Death is the final boss, and that you had Dracula replaced with SOTN's Olrox (who is really supposed to be Count Orlock from 'Nosferatu'). Also, nice remake of the music from SOTN's Library Stage.
That's Dance of Pales being played in stage 15 of this walkthrough. It's not played in the library in SotN. I forgot what stage Dance of Pales is played in in SotN, though, because I haven't played it in a long time. I still have it downloaded from the Playstation store on my PS3. I think it was only $9.99.
The song Dance of Pales is from Olrox's Quarters in SotN.
love the 8 bit dance of pales :) super cool
Not sure but some sprites remind me of rush n attack. The dogs in the first stage, for example
Title screen sounds like a final fantasy remix. Love it.
that type of game where at some point you give up
but I really enjoyed
Best Castlevania hack ever!
very impressive hack, very impressive run.
I wouldn't say that Slogra is too difficult. The required tactic becomes pretty obvious after couple of hits. The one who gave me the most trouble is Gaibon - took some time for me to understand how to fight him if I miss the axe subweapon.

Death is the final boss. I think it makes sense because he is the most difficult and creepiest boss anyways having also a second part of the fight. :) At least in the original version of Castle Vania on NES.
The graphics remind me of the ZX spectrum... cool stuff. The music is rather odd tho
amazing job this hack is pretty good! the only complain about it is that i spected dracula has final boss
I’ve beaten some Castlevania games and hacks but damn, I cannot beat the second to the last boss here. That second form is like beast Dracula on crack.
AWESOME HACK!
awesome dude, couldn't that one without dying
Very impressive
the hack is pretty nice
Perfect game castlevania
Great!
I have to say this game is much better than 8-Eyes for the NES, which was a bad Castlevania rip-off.
did u do the music for this yourself? its really good but i dont recognize it from any CV games. also whats that subweapon at 10:22? laurels? lol great game tho looks awesome and unique!
Why is the final boss the flying dutchman?
@KingOfCoolio
Happy new year to you as well.
8 Eyes is something more than just a rip-off. Everyone bothered to find only CV similarities, though, completely ignoring some unique and interesting traits of the game.
What system is this for? What Castlevania is this from?
nes probably
2199 Nes and Castlevania 1....
It's DaNasty not DeNasty sheesh. in the original CV 3 it said DeNasty I know but canon has DaNasty for his last name now.
I just can't play this game. I've tried quite a few emulators, Jnes and Nestopia among them, and it never works. What emulator do you use? Any suggestions?
15:26 which music? 🤔
The music was really weird.... Very inspired, but I wish it.....well....sounded better...
I own the cartridge, love the music!
Are the any changes to the controls or mechanics?
Alianger Not really- just looks and sounds different with new levels. Great back, but doesn't do anything new to the mechanics
There's a different item that makes you invincible for a few seconds. (laurels)
wtf easiest last boss in the history of castlevania
8:15 slogra?
10:56 gaibon.....
11:45 Dance of pales castlevania SotN
15:19 orlox
I see...
To be honest........ No, thanks! This is anything but Castlevania. Horrible music especially for a Castlevania wanna be game
You can hope he knows something, guess he is one of those purist kids who only plays Konami games.
Who are you? Why are you saying this? I didn't offend you. You don't have the rights to offend me. "You can hope he knows something"... You don't know me! If you didn't like my criticism so highlight the positive things you think about the hack and don't offend me. This kind of attitude won't make you seem better than me. I don't need to prove you anything. Look outside the window of your house. The world is wider. Just didn't like the hack, didn't like the arrangements and especially the "instruments" used to rearrange the tracks to the NES chip tune format. Can you understand this? Call me a purist if you like but no, I don't play only Konami games.
Yes, I know this pretty well. Just didn't like the arrangements and especially the "instruments" used to rearrange the tracks to the NES chip tune format. Got it?
The gameplay was decent but yeah, the music was a turn off for me.
I guess the only music that was good were the one that plays on Olrox's stage.
No offense to the creators, but this looks less like a fan-hack and more like a cheap Chinese rip-off... I was very disappointed. :(
Moron
ive watched and rewatched this and about 9 other cv1 hack videos and i feel compelled to say in response to your loader comment... you are the master of reconstituted bosses, your hacked bosses are so cool compared to most all other hacks recycling their bosses. some hacks change the platform configurations just to make it interesting, but no one ive seen has made unique challenging bosses like you did here. i ebayed a repro cart of this game a week ago and so fired up to play the hell out of it
18:00
overall the hack looks fairly easy, on par or less difficult even than CV1. however some of these boss fights look grueling. the runner shows a penchant for getting down and dirty against these gound and pound bosses. slogra, gaibon, and jekyll-hide... no fancy finesse or overpowered subweaps in those fights, runner just throws down an ass whipping =D
