First of all...love to see you two together! I could listen for hours to you guys! I think Revenge was a good comeback for heavy Kiss. loved their look! But in a way I hardly listen to the record nowadays. although I love songs like Everytime I look at you, Domino, Spit, God gave rock n roll to you and Unholy. Did you ever listen to the song Nasty Nasty from Black N Blue, produced by Gene Simmons...that riff is exactly Domino!!

Mike! I have a Kiss tattoo on my right shoulder - it’s the logo from Destroyer (done poorly, alas, and I will get it redone one day)… point is, I was inspired to get it due to Revenge and Gene’s Unholy- I was just so damn excited. Ha. Anyway, ty for this fun themed show- listening now. Peace!

    Great Episode Mike!!

The good thing about Revenge at that time was that they not only scored with their own fans in Europe with the single hits "God gave Rock n Roll to you 2" and "Unholy". Plus, with these two songs they could also win some respect and recognition from the KISS haters. In addition, GS and PS were remorseful in the interviews and did tell less arrogant crap. Good times for being a KISS Fan at the age of 13.

@@therockexperiencewithmikeb8365 Btw. I really appreciate the songs "Thou Shalt Not" and "Paralyzed" a lot. In my personal subjective opinion these are no fillers.

@@marclehmann1940I don’t think there is any fillers at all, I like some songs better than others but they are all very good or excellent. One of the most consistent kiss albums.

    Fun Episode guys
Think about it Timeline 1991 Metallica puts out the Black Album in August 12 , Guns N Roses Use your Illusion 1&2 Sept 17th , Skid Row Slave to the Grind June 11th.
1992 : Pantera Vulgar Display of Power Feb 25th, KISS Revenge May 19th
Yes Revenge was cool but with those albums and Metallica with their big long tour they did that included that tour with Guns N Roses in 92 plus Grunge , KISS didn't have a chance at that time.
Saw Metallica 6 times on that whole tour, saw 2 shows on the Revenge tour which of course got cut short.

I remember REVENGE coming out, but never heard it until about three years ago. First off, let me state that Eric Carr was the best Kiss drummer to grace the band. Going through the material, REVENGE definitely proved that Kiss was STILL a force to be reckoned with, even after 19 years! SMASHES, THRASHES... and HOT IN THE SHADE just failed to meet their mark. I don't think it was anybody's fault really. Kiss was a band that knew that change was in the wind by the late 1980s, and they were wondering where to go. With REVENGE, they KNEW where to go. Side one (aka: The first 6 songs on the album) is just stellar. The band was packing a punch, and doing it legit.

well in sales smashes trashed & hits sold about 2 millions just in usa so it sure meet their mark and hot in the shade wasnt bad in any way its a great album with good songs such as forever which was their biggest bilboard chart at no8 since I was made for lovin you. Revenge is a heaver album and with alot of help from Bob Ezrin with the help of his crew who set up the sound and help write the songs, they had kevin valentine and dick wagner who played drums and guitars as well. If Eric Carr would have lived the drum sound would have sounded exactly the same studio album wise as bob and his crew set up the sound just he did destroyer album

As post Ace albums go... Revenge is my third favorite.
Unholy and God Gave Rock n Roll to You are in my top tier. I'm also a big fan of Everytime I Look At You and I agree with Vincent's breakdown of the songwriting. 23 y/o me loved Take It Off when it came out. 55 y/o still does. Honorable mentions for Heart of Chrome and Domino. After that, the rest of the tracks are mediocre at best. But I enjoyed the effort compared to Hot in The Shade. And I don't think they've come close in terms of albums since.

I agree "A Million to one" best non makeup Paul song. Why didnt Bruce get asked to fill in after Ace dropped out and Tommy got the gig? I always wondered that. Seems like Bruce deserved it

Great episode. I appreciate the difference perspectives on each song. I also agree with Vincent that "Every Time I Look at You" is great and the "guitar solo was incredible." It was my (our) wedding song in 1996. Too bad it was not conceptualized until 1991 because it may have been a big hit for the band.

Nice to see you guys talking about this cool album, two good friends with a different taste sometimes. Very entertaining.
I always liked this album and i agree with both of you that GOD GAVE ROCK N ROLL TO YOU is one of the best. DOMINO is my least fave too Mike. Never liked it.

At the time of this album’s release I found Paul’s songs to be stronger than Genes but nowadays I find Genes tracks on Revenge to be superior ….. I always say that the album could have reached greater heights if Vinnie was actually back in the band permanently for the recording of Revenge

Great episode! As a huge Kissfan for almost 44 years I really think Revenge is an immensely overrated album.. A couple of really cool and heavy riffs doesn’t make a great album imho.. That’s the great thing about us fans: so many different opinions 🤟🏼 Agree totally with Vincent: ‘God Gave…’ is for me also the very best song on the album.

Revenge has some great songs and some filler songs.
    7/10
Almost everyone was getting heavier in the early 90's.
I agree with Vincent on the assessment of RHCP although I was already on board with that band when Mother's Milk came out
