First, thanks so much for your videos Joseph, I have learned heaps from them.
There is a really good feature with the Fasteners workbench. If you have a part with a hole ready to accept a fastener, select the hole (or edge of the hole) and, if you choose the workbench option to match the thread size, when you select a fastener, it will automatically size the thread to the hole and place the fastener in the hole, flush with the surface of your part (you may need to invert). Makes adding fasteners incredibly easy, especially if you're assembling a part in an assembly workbench.

Can this be applied to make modelled threads in a part (as opposed to specific ready made nut shapes etc). This would be useful for 3D printing of threads.
Just saw the video, great work. Now I have these abilities in Freecad. I will soon not have to use Fusion .
Thanks for the videos.. spent years with SolidWorks designing injection molded parts and extrusion tooling, but changed jobs a few years back and can't afford a licence for just playing around. I wanted to get on freecad because as cool and flashy as Fusion360 is, it doesn't run on Linux and I prefer to stick with open source when I can..
Anyways, just trying to get a feel for how it's done in freecad and your videos are great! Thanks, and keep em coming!

Is there anyway to change the pitch and the direction of the screw. Like a left hand screw?
Normally I'm 100% metric all the time, but I'm trying to connect my project to an air supply with 1/4" NPT threaded fittings and I can't figure it out haha
Excellent video. How do you create a complimentary screw hole with matching threads?
The part design workbench has a hole wizard feature that can be used. You could probably also do a boolean subtract to come close or try to boolean in the threads of a nut. I have not had a need to do this to date, so I have tried none of these options
Is there a way to edit the fastener after its created. I want to use this as a base for the thread pattern, but in a different configuration.
hi - i used the fastners workbench to create a M25 NUT but the diameter of the hold was around 21mm ... why would that be the case ?

It's been a while since I have used this, but if shoulder bolt or partially threaded bolt isn't an option, I'd just run a boolean to add to or remove the portion of thread I didn't want
@@JokoEngineeringhelp perfect thanks! I had picked the wrong type of bolt. I've used both ways now and prefere using "fasteners" prints really nice too but my bolt was pretty big @ 14x60mm.

how about non metric threads? or custom thread pitch, example M10x1,25mm?

Draw a Helix in the parte toolbench, draw the teeth using wikipedia reference of sizes diàmetres and sweep the teeth along the hèlix. This way you can virtually create any thread.
How can I thread a hole in a part I already designed? For example, Threading a Fuel Rails to accept a AN-08 Male fitting?
The hole command on the part design workbench will create a hole to represent the threads. If you need the actual female threads, I might suggest importing a male threaded feature and subtracting it or importing female thread from say, a nut, and making a making a fusion.
Joko Engineeringhelp I tried subtracting a male thread but the issue I have found is that it has to be longer than the hole you are subtracting from otherwise it won’t show. Have you found a way around this to create a short thread inside a long hole?

I have no Fasteners or anything else in Addons Workbench. How do I get them?
Go to this --> wiki.freecadweb.org/External_workbenches
scroll down and you'll see a lot of external workbenches. Go to GitHub and download the ZIP. Extract it, then copy the folder to the "Mod" folder in the place where you install the FreeCAD. Then restart the app to use the new workbenches you just downloaded.

Freecad should have a feature to create Cosmetic thread. So one need not model a thread.
