It’s a good idea, very similar to the Tram,Train System running in Karlsruhe Southern Germany. In the City the trams run on the streets on the outskirts they use the Railway lines.
Thank you. At this stage, initial feasibility has already taken place and this idea has been shortlisted. Further study work is required by the decision makers looking at precise costs and infrastructure, and we're strongly pushing for that to be done in the near future. We really think this scheme would work on every level for both residents and tourists (and the public are very on board with it) so we're confident that it can and should happen in the medium-long term.
It was a great shame that when the Pontins site was redeveloped for housing that a strip of land wasn't reserved to connect from the Starr Gate terminus to the rail line. This would also have been a better location for the tram depot away from directly adjacent to the sea and the ravages of winter storms and the corrosive salt spray.
out of interest, how come the line will have to share it partly with Network Rail trains? Why can’t the tram simply run all the way to Kirkham & Wesham?
NorthernRail Because maintaining heavy rail from at least St Anne's to Preston and beyond is important for the buisness case and to minimise opposition.
Note: we apologise for the two spelling mistakes in this video. They should be 'aerial' at 0:10 and 'tramway' at 1:36.
Lived in St Annes during the 1960s at 4 Singleton Avenue and worked at Hadley Motors... Happy days...
What a great video. That's quite a long stretch of single track isn't it?

Well good luck, the North Station extension is happening definitely isn't it?
Yes that one is definitely happening (subject to DfT approval). Work should start early next year.
