- Hey there, fellow runners! It's Paul from PKS Runs, and this video is all about my adventure running the Lisbon Marathon. Even as a seasoned sub-three-hour marathoner, this run definitely threw me a few curveballs and proved to be a real test of resilience.
Tag along with me in this video, as I run through a stunning city, on a day that was hotter than expected, with a surprising twist - the marathon starting an hour earlier than scheduled! From the initial challenges and anxiety of starting six minutes late due to a bathroom break, to finding joy spotting a pineapple-hat runner, this experience was a rollercoaster of emotions.
For all my beginner runners, watch as I share tips about pacing, hydration, and the importance of maintaining a positive mindset - even when things won't go as planned. Race against time as I steadily chase down pacing groups, battle cramps towards the finish line, and learn to make split-second decisions on the move. When the going gets tough, the tough get running, right?
It doesn't matter if you're a veteran sprinter or new to the running scene, we all can learn a little something from each other's experiences. So come join me on this marathon journey which is sure to make you laugh, learn and stay motivated on your own running quest.

Welcome to 'PKS Runs'! Your one-stop destination for all things running, where running newbie or seasoned marathoner, you'll find something to resonate with your journey. My name is PKS, I began this channel during my training for the Manchester Marathon in April 2023, which I successfully completed sub-3 hour - a personal triumph that I'm eager to share with you.
On this channel, I discuss everything from unique running trails and marathon training strategies, to essential gear recommendations and diet tips for runners. As I gear up for the Lisbon Marathon on 8th October 2023 and target a sub-2:55 finish in my spring marathon in 2024, I invite you to join me on this exciting adventure.
Running has not only been my physical journey but a mental one too. I've grappled with depression and anxiety, and found solace in the rhythm of my strides. I regularly share personal stories of my struggles and how running has been instrumental in keeping those dark days at bay. I aim to inspire, motivate, and offer a helping hand to all those who seek to begin or continue their running journey.
Here on 'PKS Runs', we go beyond just breaking a sweat; we break barriers and foster a strong community

I’ll be doing this marathon this year… from South Africa 🇿🇦… the views are amazing 😊
From South Africa as well!! Running this marathon too. Hope to see you there!!🇿🇦🇿🇦
Oh wow that’s awesome - the views were incredible… actually watching the sunrise while running was stunning 🤩
Where in SA are you coming from?
That’s amazing - where in South Africa? Do you have any other races planned? My dream is to do comrades one day… it’s on the list 💪🏼
@@pksruns From a small town in the Northern Cape, Kimberley. We actually live and work in Cascais, Portugal. Got my eye on the 2025 Comrades for sure!!👍🏻👍🏻🇿🇦🇵🇹
@@shrimpking205 amazing - so jealous! Cascais must be an amazing place to live - enjoy ☺️
Brilliant video you likely passed me in with the 3.30 group keep up the great work👍👍
Oh fun!!! Thanks for the encouragement. What’s next for you?
Great video 🤩
Thanks so much 🙌🏼
Brilliant 🎉🎉
Thanks so much - I’m very proud of the achievement 🙌🏼
Great video 💪🤩
Thanks so much - how’s your training going?
Silly question but did this course have start waves? I'll be doing this marathon as my first in a couple of weeks.
I dont think it had proper waves where everyone was corralled into groups - there were predicted times on the bibs but it seemed as though you could start where you want!!! I was unlucky enough to be in the toilet queue when the race started so started at the very back!!! You will love it though, it’s a stunning race! Is it your first?
@@pksruns thanks for responding! It is my first marathon so I’m not entirely sure what to expect in terms of planning my arrival. I have done a half before. Like you, planning ahead helps a lot, Am I okay to assume 8am would be my approximate start time?
Yeah I think that’s safe to assume.., it’ll be a bit of chaos at the start and will filter out nicely over the first few miles. What’s your Strava? Would love to see how you get on 💪🏼
@@pksruns awesome, thanks! Just sent a follow request on Strava!
Thank you for the video, it will be my 5th marathon and I'm running it this year. What was the temperature approx.? I bet I'll need salt caps for it, as its so sunny there...
It was unbelievable to high 20s / early 30s but felt so much hotter as it was direct sun the whole time. That being said, it was a freak heatwave so they started the race an hour early - I think it’s normally a pleasant warm temp but not crazy! This was HOT
How is the training going?
@@pksruns alright, thank you for info:)
@@pksruns good so far, did half in Madrid this April with time 1:26, so definitely targeting to finish sub 3 finally (3:06 last PB)
Well let me know how you get on - sounds like your well on track 🙌🏼
Thanks for the video. I also ran this Marathon, and was targetting my first Sub-3, but I didn't manage to make it. I made it in at 03:03:48. Do you think that would qualify for a sub-3 on a better course/day? I'm trying again in May in Copenhagen...
They wouldn't let me start with the 3 hour pace group because my number said
When is a sub-3 marathon a sub-3 marathon? 🧐 #shorts #marathon #marathontraining
Great video mate, do you recommend lisbon for a first marathon?
Hi! Well, it’s an insanely beautiful marathon, so I’d say yes!!! I had a bit of a rough experience, but could have been avoided
