Typically IG is most efficient to be played on the ground, although they buffed the aerial moves in this game. Jumping is just another dimension for movement while sustaining damage.
They made aerial IG better in this game. That doesn't make it good, though. It's still the most vulnerable and weakest playstyle, especially with monster hitboxes extending higher than what their animation shows. Ground IG gives you the superior maneuverability, better control with moves, access to i-frames, better HZVs (there's rarely any decent hitzones on the upper half of monsters), better MVs by average (aerial's only high MV move is the default silkbind art which is its only saving grace, which ground IG still utilizes a lot so there is no comparison).

if i remembered correctly the diving attack was added as well at the time of the ff14 collab on mh:world. also the dragoon armor still looks sick on mhw, wish they have it on rise as well
What’s your ground and pound combo? Trying to be a better ig hunter for the team. I started using the weapon because of the helicoptering and I’m pretty good at getting diving wyvern to lvl 3 but I also like to be efficient.
@@Khalid_Senpai That's a shame, I tend to like using the blunt chain hit kinsect for easier stuns and it's non-glacial pace in comparison. Thanks for that rapid response, you're a speed runner even in the comment sections.
The aerial combo is a lot harder to hit the best hitzones with and since it hits multiple times it will eat through your sharpness faster. This isn't so much of a problem in normal play, but in speed runs you want to avoid both inconsistent moves and sharpening as much as possible.
@@Raisera As an insect glaive main in mhw I use aeral combos against velkhana or lunastra, great damage plus tons of fun. also most monsters are unable to hit you once you are in the air, alatreon for example. if it is ice active none of the freezing moves do damage to you if you jump. while grounded deals more damage aeral is still viable depending on the monster, and lets be honest it is the most fun

i use aerial combos only when i know ill be able to mount, if the monster is flying, or if they're in such a position that their good hitzones are hard to hit from the ground, and that's it
Those giant, sluggish monsters like Magnamalo have virtually no defense against a glaive. I always found the guy a bit of a disappointment to fight tbh. I'm by no means a master of the insect glaive, but a fairly competent wielder and it baffled me a bit how easy it was to beat this hyped up, badass looking, awesome name having colossus of a monster. I think I had to use 2 potions and 1 nulberry on my first attempt. The first time I tried a Tobi Kadachi with a glaive tho. My gawd... Those are some war flashbacks right there.

Insect Glaive was never made for aerial combat, but mounting ease. Learn ground or wait till the devs make an aerial weapon.

@@xihanco5217 there was a jumping emote added at the time which is kind of similar, but no new moves were added until iceborne I think.

He is using an assist bug. All assist bugs give two colors at a time.

I used tranq bombs at around 3:07. They typically last for around 30 seconds or maybe a minute, can't remember at the moment.

Insect Glaive has never been about Aerial combat. It's a trap, especially pre MHR when the damage was even lower.
