How much planning and how do you plan for your pieces? Is it just sketch and mental planning or do you do thumbnails? You seem so confident in what you want it to look like and know how to get there I am wondering how much you second guess yourself or how much you plan.

Poster colours are my dream paint, but i've been hearing things about the lightfastness, and how anything painted with poster colours isn't meant to last. i guess that's why they're mainly used for animation, because the physical paintings won't be needed once they've been scanned in. So my question is, have you noticed your poster colour paintings fading or the lightfastness being an issue? Poster colours would be extremely expensive for me to get one day, so I wanted to know if it would be worth it :) if they are worth it, they'd be the perfect mix of watercolour and gouache for me!!
May I ask, what white water colour are you using? And do you use dryer to dry your drawing before painting on top of the first layer. My white is not lifting well, I wonder if it is because my drawing is not as dry as it should be? Thank you in advance.
i used to face the same problem before but not anymore. try to follow those tips. * ALWAYS use masking fluid on DRY surface ONLY (any dampness would ruin it) *if you are stretching your paper make sure that you are using masking fluid after it completely dry. *only paint over the masking fluid after it settle down dry on paper. (usually takes from 2-5 min may vary due to different type of paper and masking brand) *once you paint over it you have to leave it till the paint dry out to rub it off the paper ( I personally use Paul robinson rubber good quality, affordable and insure to remove it easily, but you can use other tools like heikala using the end of the brush) the key word for masking fluid is dry :D it need to be dry to work! good luck!
