I love the fact that they added a second car and don't really mind that they changed the engine but why wouldn't they design it to be powered. Just makes no sense. Kinda makes me think I'll hold off a while myself.
My recommendation to make it powered is either have the locomotive as a dud and have the tender the powerhouse; or make a mail car in between the tender and passenger cars to pull the orient express. Should solve the power issue; as well as possibly adding an additional part of the orient express
@@legogonegaming It's funny... if they hadn't shrunk the engine, it would probably have room for both a battery box and two motors => more power and more weight on the drivers => better tractive effort. The fan design is what most model train companies use. A French SNCF mikado class 141 engine with dark green coaches. I’ve heard that the company who operates the Orient Express wanted LEGO to base the locomotive on the late 19th century instead of the 1930s. As a model train collector I don’t like that decision and the ideas designer clearly doesn’t either

A number of us do like the LEGO flexi track for wider radius curves but, I am kind of curious why LEGO seems to want to limit this to just a display build and not actually be more enthusiastic about it being included in running in a city display. For those with eight wide trains some of the powered up and power functions motors will pull some of those heavy cars but, I don't need to see trains running at full speed or very fast at all in order to be impressed. I wish I could add the picture of the original orient express because it looks exactly like this train that is coming out on 1 December. Sorry to say, but that big hunk of junk green thing was not doing it for me at all and the reason why Lego did what they did is very logical.
To be quite honest I pretty much enjoyed and actually like this train. I just hope that Lego makes a steam tank engine, So that way this would have given Lego fans a whole lot of opportunity for Lego steam tank engine to make their own smaller train.
I think too many people, train fans or not, are hung up on the change from the Ideas submission. This is still one of the best (if not THE best) looking trains we've gotten. The boiler's a bit wide on the loco, and yeah it should've been intended to be easily motorized. But even with those flaws, the whole package still looks so good!
True, but if you vote for something because you like it, and then end up having something entirely different, I can understand the fans' frustration! This being said, the final model is indeed way nicer than the fan's attempt, and this is why Lego should scrap this pointless "Idea" programme entirely.
007, From Russia With Love. Buy two and buy two normal Hogwarts Expresses, part for the wagons, part so you can swap engine parts. Yes, upgrade your smaller Hogwarts Express using the a second Orient Express engine, it's parts, while stealing it's wagons for your first Orient Express. Same thing with the Hogwarts Express, more wagons, while the second engine is used to either upgrade the first engine or the Orient Express engine. As for the Orient Express coal wagon, perfect base for the Hogwarts Express one, while the Orient Express would be better off with the coal wagon of a P8 steam engine, which has four axels, not three (thus a smaller engine). This may perhaps allow a bigger front boggie, thus letting you hide a engineblock, add another in the boiler, behind plates and..... If you want to be funny, rebuild both to Flying Scotsman looks with a walk-true coal corridor tender & water corridor tender, setup. So yeah, double this one and the smaller Hogwarts Expres, up, you would need their parts, if you want to make both drive true your city, with some nice wagons behind them. But both would need a baggage wagon, as well. So you have some figuring out, to do. Heck, if you want to go crazy, go for two Garretts, one Orient, one Hogwarts. Would mean four Orient sets, though, for the drive train of the engine, so you can upgrade the Hogwarts one. Unless you can get them as spare parts or so, you know. But with two Garretts, you can actually run them as one train company, with two express trains. Would give your Orient Garrett, if you go that way, eight passengier wagons, from the start, only needing a baggage wagon to be added. But the Hogwarts one, would leave you with a wagon problem, Though if you have the last one & the current one, two times, then you have some parts, just needing doors & windows. And enough parts for one hell of a station. Might even be able to sneak in the Wayne Terminal (last Batman Batcave set).
They should of made the original Ideas Engine. Even if it would of cost more. It had more detail. I think this engine sucks. It looks too small to go with the Passenger Cars. It’s still a nice set though that I’ll probably buy
It is a perfectly sized locomotive for the era they're going for. The Ideas engine looked more 30s/40s while the actual set is more 20s. Also keep in mind this is a toy for children and for kids the working rods and gear is going to be more important than slightly more greebling.
@@gearandalthefirst7027 I’m a train collector and I have a huge Lionel, MTH, and Atlas Trains. This engine should of been a 4-8-4 for the Orient Express. This engine they used almost looks like a switching engine with the small 6 drive wheels
The locomotive looks tiny (as in out of scale tiny) to the carriages? Its too expensive in aus anyway. From seeing your review it makes the hogwarts train more appealing...
The locomotive is actually based off of (from what I’ve read) a French locomotive and is in scale to the carriages. If it wasn’t, I def wouldn’t buy the set. Gonna pick it up tho

This being said, the final model is indeed way nicer than the fan's attempt, and this is why Lego should scrap this pointless "Idea" programme entirely.
how wide is this train, again?
8 Studs

Cars are great, the engine is a -C
But the Hogwarts one, would leave you with a wagon problem,
Though if you have the last one & the current one, two times, then you have some parts, just needing doors & windows.
And enough parts for one hell of a station.
Might even be able to sneak in the Wayne Terminal (last Batman Batcave set).
You cannot be serious! 🤪
Lego made the disaster of the year 2023😅
Carriages look great, but they botched the locomotive. Looks more like a toy than it should in my opinion.
The cars too look like toys.
(Real Orient Express carriages would be almost twice as long.)
Therefore, loco and cars fit rather well together!
Is it just me or does the scientist look like Albert Einstein?
The locomotive looks tiny (as in out of scale tiny) to the carriages? Its too expensive in aus anyway. From seeing your review it makes the hogwarts train more appealing...
It's too early to be this drunk lol nothing can make the ucs hogwarts express good
The locomotive is actually based off of (from what I’ve read) a French locomotive and is in scale to the carriages. If it wasn’t, I def wouldn’t buy the set. Gonna pick it up tho
@@fifth212it was rumored to be based on the SNCF 230 G, at least that’s the engine which shares the highest amount of details with the Lego engine. And, I’m sorry to say, that the engine noticeably is too small and it’s paint job looks more Bavarian than French. We more or less have to live with the fact that the engine is entirely fictional, it may share some design here and there but that’s it. Enjoy the set though! :D
@@spongebubatz yea, I completely forgot where I got that info… sorry for the misunderstanding!
@@spongebubatzIt may be out of scale for that particular locomotive, but as for out of scale compared to the carriages, I don't think it is at all. But I agree, we have to accept that it's just a fictional loco, but I personally think it looks pretty good!
Day one buy
Almost perfect? Certainly not this set.
Just compare this junk to the Mould King 12025, and you see, what it could have been.
Unable to be motorized and run on standard tracks, yet too simplified to make a good shelf model
It runs on a standard track. It can also be motorised, Lego simply doesn’t want to throw a €55 motor in.
LEGO can't even spell the name of the city right, It is Bucuresti, not Bucaresti in Romanian.
And München is missing the Ü 😅
Yep, they goofed on these.
They also got the sticker sheet wrong.
@@alexnunes and they charge 400$ + taxes on this set here in Canada, ridiculous
Someone have done engine in this train. Check on youtube. For me its not important, it will stand as a model
This one or the Hogwarts Express for display?
This set just makes me angry, Lego consumer interests are being sold out by the marketing divisions of Lego and a modern luxury train company in a partnership nobody needed for a more than century-old train. It includes lazy mistakes like two typos (București and München), a loco that does not fit at all, minifigs wearing the wrong colors for historical staff and it simply is not clear what this set is supposed to be. It is a 300$/€ fictional toy train as a display set for adults, completely overpriced with abysmal value for your money, even for Lego standards.
I bought the Mould King 12025 set twice now, it simply makes you even angrier about what Lego is daring to offer here.
$469 AUD..... Poo.
Absolute hard pass
Tell me you're doing a paid review without telling me you're doing a paid review.
Interesting comment as I am not paid. I do love feedback. What part of the video would you refer people to that indicates I was paid to say something? Thanks!
