  • Brace yourselves. This episode is a wild ride... Our journey around Iceland continues as we venture out to the beautiful island of Drangey in Northern Iceland. Sheer cliffs covered in the white-wash of hundreds of thousands of Seabirds, along with a screeching symphony, welcome us. We stumble upon something completely unexpected on the island, too - puffin hunters.
Later in our journey, we head further west out to the beautiful island of Vigur, where we meet some of its feathered residents: Black Guillemots, Arctic Terns and Eider Ducks.
Here at Gone Feral, we (Edwin Towler and Harry Read) film our adventures into the wild as we do our best to showcase the natural world through our photographs. We are British by nature, so we're a bit out of depth here in Iceland. We're loving every minute of it though! Our puffin photographs will help researchers understand the diets of the birds better, and will feed into broader studies of ecosystem health.
We hope you enjoy joining us on our adventure, there are plenty of other films from this series so please check those out too and stay tuned for new episodes!
    Much love,
    Ed & Harry

That was really tough to watch unlike the rest of the video which was really nice as usual guys.
Also, this must be a TH-cam bug or something, but I'm seeing 6.14K subscribers when it should say 614K :)

Yeah, now I remember that silverback clip as well, that was hilarious! 😂 Thanks for reminding me, Rodrigo! I wonder why it didn‘t make it into the final version of the episode… 😅

Even though its a tradition that may need rethinking. These are the people that are hurt the most if the puffin population would decline, so these people would make the most effort in keeping them around. Maybe there is a middleway, if they help increase the population they are allowed to catch a certain number of birds. If there are no people that benefit from the puffins why would anyone bother keeping their population stable. This does not apply to puffins only but to all hunting traditions and hunting in general.

The Atlantic puffin population in Iceland has dropped by 70% in the past 30 years and they are under Vulnerable status (high risk of extinction in the wild). And while the hunters you talked to claim to be doing it to "feed their family", many hunters profit off puffins by selling their meat to restaurants and because they are easy to catch. It's crazy that Iceland still allows puffin hunting.
