    Her vocals are much better than I expected, but her acting is awesome and she’s very funny as Roxie. It’s perfect not to be an amazing singing voice like Velma, because Roxie’s a chorus girl, who because of her not so great singing, she kept being rejected as a solo performer. I’m proud of Pamela for her performance in this number. She’s awesome!

    • @antmagor
      @antmagor ปีที่แล้ว +28

      I don’t want to compare her to Marilyn Monroe. Because Norma Jean was one of a kind, but pam does kind of have that kinship if you will with her in that she’s always been perceived as a dumb blonde. I think a trick to her getting bigger success than she’s had in the past is figuring out what roles match the persona that the public has for her. And then figuring out how to use that to navigate to bigger things. That’s what was the genius about Marilyn Monroe, she figured out how to do that. Sadly her career was cut short, and during that time it was exhausting for her to combat her public image with her talent. But anyway that’s another discussion.

    • @antmagor
      @antmagor ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@atozzerotoninedude Sounds like a good idea but it would have to be a stage production I think. I only say that because Hollywood has a tendency to discriminate against older actresses even if they physically look the part. The exception to that rule being if the actress has clout at a level that I don’t think Pam has achieved as of yet. However the Broadway stage is very forgiving in that regard. Not to mention there’s an artistry regarding reboots on Broadway that doesn’t exist quite in the same way it does in Hollywood. Don’t get me wrong I like the odd reboot if it’s done well. But in this regard Broadway has a better track record. Hence why revivals have their own category at the Tony awards.

    I'm amazed. I remember seeing Pamela Anderson on Baywatch back in the '90s when I was one of the millions of teenagers fantasizing about this young, hot Southern California-looking Canadian girl with golden hair and the red swimsuit she made legendary.
    Fast forward to 2023 and here she is: mature, funny, talented and doing what she does best - to entertain.
    Besides her great acting and comedic timing, her vocals are rather impressive for someone who didn't have any kind of serious vocal coaching. At 2:51 she pulls off a nice brief scatting segment followed by an incredible jump into a very low vocal register for the phrase _"no, no, no, but he ain't"._
    Hollywood is a messed up place. It will use you and throw you into the gutter once it doesn't need you anymore. But thanks to the world of theater, she was able to display her capabilities in a much broader range🤩

    This was more entertaining than I expected. I think this role benefits from being continually re-interpreted (starting with Ginger Rogers). If you were lured into the theater by a name on the marquee, you want to see something special, and not a clone of Ann Reinking or Gwen Verdon or Renee Zelwegger.
    Sally Bowles is another role like that. And Hedwig.

  • @BettyH4rley

    She did more than amazing. She is perfect for that role. And in my mind the singing is perfect. Because according to her personal story (Roxie) she has been told no over and over again. So logically speaking she must not've had talent to have be turned done on every occasion. She did great. Kudos to her 👏🏾

      Pam said she was offered this role 10 years earlier but could not do it as her 2 sons were only 13 and 15 and she couldn't leave them back home and move to New York. She would have only been 44 then and is 54 here.

    the most manic, psychotic, portrayal of Roxie, and Pam sells it. Roxie's not really supposed to be a great famous singer as it is (since she's delusional), so it kind of works in her favor. I'm mostly just happy to see Pam having fun and going for it.

      She was cute in the part but a terrible singer. This was 1000% stunt casting. If she was a nobody and auditioned, she wouldn't even get out her full 16 bars before getting axed.

    • @loris8645
      @loris8645 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@jenm9099 exactly...she was sort of "cute"...but can't sing, and can't dance...which is a slap in the face to all the ridiculously talented triple threats out there trying to get work....yet they cast someone simply bc of their name instead of their talent...she was community theatre level AT BEST

    • @MargaretAliceRA
      @MargaretAliceRA ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah you definitely do unless you have an already big name and pull in the industry. Don't get me wrong, I do love this for her, and her acting/interpretation of Roxie is incredible and perfectly directed, but she stops acting the moment she starts singing, and part of the big draw to this show is Fosse's very famous choreography - and she can't dance! I can get behind the idea of Roxie not being as talented as she thinks she is, but this number is a fantasy - in her fantasy, she would be magnificent. So yes, adorable, but it definitely does not prove that anyone could do this.
