  • Hi folks, NatNomad here. An ex-Buddhist monk from Laos with a big dream of seeing the world. Throughout my time for over 10 years being a monk I kept asking myself one question "What life is like out there beyond the monastery?" and because of this question alone made me take a big step in 2014 when I finally said goodbye to my wonderful monastic life.
    And now I'm doing what I've always wanted to do. Though I am not quite sure if I can say that I'm living my dream but you know what I'm loving my new adventure.
    Please make sure to stick with me so we can explore new exotic places together.
    Let the adventure begins!
    Thanks so much for your support.

    Great video to show how things are! Loved my time in Laos recently particularly Luang Prabang. Hopefully inflation slows down soon.

    I often wonder how many locals manage to get along during this challenging time. So thank you for sharing these insights Nat! Let's hope the economy will recover soon. 🙏

      Hi Chris, it's tough for a lot of local people but I think most are trying to make the best of it.
      Are you still in Luang Prabang?

    Don't forget the U.S. ! I believe theirs about 260,000 Laotians people living here in the U.S... making U.S. the second largest Laotians living abroad. With California & Texas being the highest two states with Lao ethnicity. We're scattered everywhere all over the states. I love it here..I have a really good life here. Comfortable life.

      I am happy to hear that our Lao folks are doing well over there.
      The US is also on my bucket list. I like hiking and nature, I'm hoping to come to Alaska and places that have nice national parks someday🙂

      @@natnomad ahhhh, ALASKA! that's one places i haven't been to yet. I would love to go one day. Maybe next year.. because this year I plan to go to Laos. I Google search Alaska and I see theirs alot of Laotians living in that state as well. That's an interesting state to go see !! Research it. Their certain time of the year when they have complete darkness and then from certain months theirs complete brightness.

    Even a year ago 496 was a dream for one baht, the real exchange rate were 550, today it is 650 ...
    They have these rates for the foreigners so they are calm as they "get value for their money", but if you want to buy at those rates, "you can not" ...
    There is at least a 10% gap between the real rate and the "official" rate at all times during the past 2 years.

    Too bad that i only stayed in Vientiane for 3 days and it was raining all the time last week of September 2022. I was supposed to go to Vang Vieng and Luang Prabang but unfortunately the didnt sell the train ticket for me because the ticketing office inside the mall doesn’t accept cash. I was really disappointed by that situation so I decided to return to Bangkok instead of staying longer in your country

    I'm visiting Laos before Christmas from Thailand. Can I use Thai baht the same as local currency? Is it best to bring USD or THB? Thanks.

    • @natnomad
      @natnomad  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thai Baht as USD are widely accepted in Laos, however it's better to change into Lao Kip when you arrive in Laos

    • @richardhill5792
      @richardhill5792 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@natnomad Thanks. The reason I want to use Thai baht is I understand the value of something in Baht, I think I would struggle as a tourist to know if I'm getting ripped off, especially as things are priced int h multiple thousands.

      @@natnomad I enjoy your videos immensely. Thank you. I feel for Laos. I know it may be difficult to speculate the reasons for this hyperinflation. Also, any attempt to lay blame on the cause of covid would be viewed as politically incorrect and biting the hand that feeds.
      But you did a good job explaining the reliance on imports. The beautiful, brand new, fast speed Laos train is absolutely fantastic. I am so proud and happy for Laos. I only hope its economic benefits cover the capital and interest costs and propel Laos into prosperity.
