I wish though it didn't have the usual "Columbia Favorite" re-release end title seen here. Some of them on the recent set that TCM released were restored with their original openings or endings intact and it was nice to finally see how ones like Madeline or The Tell-Tale Heart looked when it wasn't an abrupt cut to those cards.

That's a great one. Brilliant gags and animation.

"Here, Waldo, you can have your banjo. AND IF YOU PLAY ONE NOTE, I'LL BLAST YOU!!!!"

The banjo part at the end is awesome. The banjo sounds in this cartoon are the I always loved and wanted to learn. Frailing is also called clawhammer. I also play two finger thumb lean style. I also use old tuning.

Babbitt animated the bear first playing the banjo and Magoo walking up to "Waldo" grabbing his banjo and ripping his fur coat. Babbitt usually drew Magoo with his jaw jutting out with squinty eyes, according to Bill Hurtz.

Wasn't it though? One of the funniest cartoons I've ever seen, even if it's 60+ years old now.

He's listed on a number of the early UPA shorts as an animator. Like everybody else, did some great work for this studio.

This is hilarious. For me, cartoon bears rarely succeed in being funny, but this one hits the mark perfectly.

He got to direct a couple like "The Popcorn Story".

Columbia only agreed to release the short because the bear was featured. Otherwise Magoo might had been a one shot character only. UPA made the short, Columbia was in charge of distribution.

For someone who is nearsighted Mr. Magoo sure can aim and fire a shotgun with no problem!

And one of the few times we ever actually see "Waldo" - the nephew Magoo mistakes many people and things for.

I like bluegrass but that's not what I play its called Old Time Banjo.
Bluegrass is just too much. I like the simple picking and frailing.
