One thing I noticed is there is a small hole in the thermostat when you put it in you need to put it on top. You placed it on the bottom. On top it lets the air come out of the system when you put the coolant in.

Ah that makes perfect sense, i came looking for that answer, thanks! The Haynes manual says there's an O-ring, not a gasket. I got the O-ring with my timing-belt & thermostat replacement set. Old one still worked fine, but it's a '91 ST1100 so might as well replace it when all tupperware is off for the timing-belt.

Great video. To the non-st1100 owners; have a look at how new this 20 year old bike looks. Mine is 25 years and 180,000 km old, looks just the same.

Thanks for posting this video. I'm about to change the thermostat on my 1996 Honda ST1100 in the following days and will be of much help. I'm almost sure a stuck thermostat is the causa the engine of my bike became running to higher an higher temperatures even the fan is running all the time and the system is full of engine coolant.

My thermostat finally bought the farm, im just going to end up running my bike without it till the new one comes in. I Appreciate the video on how to take it out.

It’s a good idea to get the new thermostat in as quick as you can, you will find the bike runs extremely cool without the thermostat and it’s not really good for the engine to run that cool as it means big difference in temp between different parts of the engine, and less efficient burn.

What was the problem? Was the bike cutting out on overheat? Do you know where the thermostat would be on a st1300

As a hearing impaired guy, the background Jazz music, delightful as it is, makes watching and hearing this video a bit of a pain. Great otherwise.:)

It wasn't the overheating and leaking problem but now I have a new installed thermostat and fan switch, you will see in another video where the leaking problem was where I had to remove the carbs to get to a cracked water connection, but all is fixed and running as designed, thanks for watching.

Visit ST-Owners.com website and they have some folks there who may have a spare or refer to someone who can help, Also try Ebay or Amazon

Sorry I am late to the party. for future reference the Honda Part number for the Thermostat is: 19300-MG9-000 (secondary number KBOMO3G). I bought my Thermostat on eBay from a dealer in Seattle.
