The Castle of Larnaca is located at the southern edge of the coastal avenue of Larnaka know as Foinikoudes
According to older written sources, such as those of Florius Voustronius and Jauna the castle is dated to period of the reign of King James I (1382-1398) of Cyprus.
The Castel was constructed to protect the harbour of the town which was used as the main port of the island.
