@@BobFowlerWorkshop I’m working on an industrial walkingfoot and the upper tension is working but it has to be almost maxed out does that mean my bobbin tension is to tight? It seems that no matter where I set bobbin tension the upper tensioner has to be to tight. Just replaced hook and case chineezium might be the problem the machine is a Juki Lu-562 any thoughts? Thank you

@@michaelthompson9127 That would be my guess. Do you have a TOWA bobbin case tension gauge?

      @@BobFowlerWorkshop yes I have the tm-3 and tm-1

I wish Id known that that was a bobbin case before. I've been using a pod style inside one of those 66 styles, it worked fine though lol

This was so helpful, thank you! I bought the TOWA Digital Bobbin Case Tension Gauge (body) and the L adapter ( it only has 2 adaptors: L and M). I can't find any adapter for the Class 15. Is it just not that popular? The Class 15 bobbin is the same diameter as the L, and it seems to fit, but I'm not sure if I'm fooling myself! The digital can also test the top thread tension, and I've seen videos of testing the bobbin tension with it straight out of the machine, so it does have its uses. If anyone has any info on using Class 15 with the Digital unit, please comment.

Great info Bob, just curious, will the Featherweight Shop tension gauge work with vibrating shuttle set ups like on the 127/128?

Unfortunately, no, I don't know of a gauge that will work with a long-bobbin shuttle...

wow! learned something new, as always! I just went with whatever worked, never knew about measuring the tension. 🤦‍♀️😬 I've also never loaded the bobbin in my 201-2, yet! I prefer the long bobbins 🤣 the round ones I haven't mastered yet! so I'll need to try soon! the plastic bobbins really infuriate me 🤣

Glad it helped Alyssa. I didn't talk about adjusting tension on long bobbins... we'll have to cover that one...

How do I take the bobbin case out of my 201? Also I took the thread guide at bottom right of machine that leads to the bobbin winder and lost the spring! Havelooked everywhere.and forgot how to put back together, lol. What part is it and where can I get one?

    • @BobFowlerWorkshop

Send me an email about the part (argosybob@gmail.com) As for removing the bobbin case, I have a video on that th-cam.com/video/v1Wc9yHlES8/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=BobFowler

Fantastic information - thank you! Question - you mentioned 20-30g (with 25g being the optimum) - would that be the case for all (66, 201 etc)? I have one of those balance units, but never know how many grams for say my Japanese 15s or Singer 401 etc (so I fall back and use the simple, but inaccurate drop method). ;)

Yeah pretty much the same across all bobbin systems. What most important is that when you find a tension setting that is working well for YOUR materials and thread, you can reproduce it consistently.

I hope the truth spreads! Maybe next time someone says it we can post this video :) They are all bobbin cases it's just that some are open frames, some are encased.
