I had this in the form of a cartridge that you could pop into the back of the Commodore 64 keyboard, so when you switched on the game, PRESTO! Your game was ready for you, and you didn't have to wait through a crapload of loading times. I had a blast playing this.
This is the first video game I ever played I must have been 7 or 8 I remember my father coming in with a cassette tape is saying this is the greatest game you've ever played 🤣🤣
sounds are fantastic on this version - not sure what triggers them but i guess it doesn't matter just adds to the chaos of the gameplay - the open drop noise was always scary..
I remember playing with my dad. We'd take turns controlling the ship while the other just waited to hit space to launch a smart bomb when the swarmers came after hitting their pod.
Dropzone was cool but the one I'm thinking of was Stargate I think, a straight copy of Defender (someone posted this but I can't see the comment now). Defender's an all-time classic though, in my opinion, even though I've never been any good at it.

Defender has a great game play one of the best on the c-64. played as a child and still loves it...

good old sound effects :D
I was just thinking of this game recently!
Unfortunatly my husband just tried defender on his new c64 but cant get the joystick to work in either port
Nice conversion. I think I first played an alternative one on C64, which again was a direct copy, but under a different name?
Dropzone. A much better game.

@@kingkoolkris That's the one, really top rate port! I've been playing it more recently via emulation.
