Pat’s reaction to Al’s saying he wanted to be a regular was like the expression of a little kid running downstairs on Christmas morning and seeing the shiny new bicycle he asked for under the tree.
As someone else mentioned Jaime, Al was awesome on the show a few weeks back. The reason Al seems to love being on Pat's show is because it's the dream. Al has spent his career working for giant corporations w/ big sponsors so he's always had to be at least a bit reserved. Pat on the other hand answers to no one. His whole brand his being unfiltered. So Al is kind of living vicariously through Pat's show.
While that’s true it makes Al seem like a guy who is slowing down, the guy looks as healthy as ever, came on last time in a tank top. He just landed a top gig when he was really young and became a national celebrity at a young age with the Miracle on Ice, 41 years ago now, so he seems like he’s been around forever but he’s really not that old
Ah, such a youngster! My childhood memories of growing up with football included John Madden as a COACH and Howard Cosell (in his glory years, not the declining end that Al mentioned) as the most familiar commentator voice.
I’ve experienced a lot of different years of Madden. Lots of fun times! Hopefully they’ll honor his memory and have him on the cover as well as an amazing game.
Knowing EA the only way you can get Madden on the cover is if you purchase the something higher than the standard version of the game. Like the Gold Edition or the Ultimate Edition. Would be different a portion of profits from the cover sales went to either one of his charities like helping juvenile diabetes, Type I diabetes, and or the Special Olympics. This is just my opinion for whatever that might be worth. Be safe and take care everyone and have a great New Year!
EA will never make a good sports game because they're greedy, and frankly dont have any good developers to make the game. Madden will probably be in the game as a commentator and on the cover.
Ill tell you what pat, you earned my respect by starting out this video being honest about who John Madden was to you, and not misleading or lying for clout. Don't ever change!
RIP coach Madden. As a Steelers fan I read his book when I was younger and enjoyed it. The book was straightforward and humble. I believe he was straightforward and humble as a person, coach and entertainer.
All of those years of watching football as a kid with Madden and Pat covering the games. I miss the big guy even more now. I know he had to retire, but with his influence on the game, it will be like he never left.
I LOVE that Al Michaels is a friend of the show and about to have his own segment on the show. I didn’t realize how awesome he was until he was on your show.
I’m loving you guys having al on the show! He seems so excited to be on and brings a whole different side of him that I love! An iconic voice in football and one of my favorites! Get him on as often as possible!
He genuinely was one of the greatest coaches ever coached the game and he retired pretty quickly I believe his average was what 9.7 wins a season he was basically getting you 10 wins every year and then he became an absolute legend for his color commentary and being the face of Madden for so many years the guy was great.
John Madden was a great all around individual. I’m old enough to remember when he was coach of the Raiders. He was one of a kind.. I’ve always been an Al Michael’s fan too, and love his commentary. The one time that will always stand out to me was during the 1989 World Series and Al went from baseball announcer to news reporter covering the earthquake in the Oakland area like it was just part of his job. He never broke stride in what he was doing and had to talk about.👍🏻👍🏻
Or when Al called the 1980 Olympic hockey game between the US and Russia when he spawned the now iconic "Do you believe in miracles". Legend, as was John Madden. RIP.
@65MK That's a really unique memory! I recall him (in my childhood) from his commentating/commercial years, but I soon learned enough about football to know what a genius he was, and to appreciate what a gift he was to the game. R.I.P. Coach Madden
He was so good covering the earthquake (as awful as that was) I was assuming he was a former journalist. I remember that too, although I can't for the life of me remember why I was watching that as it was happening, because I wasn't going to watch the game. (I'm 57)
Pat, you bring a lot of John Madden energy to the show in your own way, and like him, you elevate the game and everyone involved. I love the reverence you gave to this legendary man today!
Madden 2007 was my favorite Madden of the series, and it has my favorite CD art with the Raiders carrying John Madden on their shoulders. I know him better as the voice of what was once my favorite video game series, but I saw his “Football Life” episode and learned so much about him and respected him so much more. He will be missed.
John calling games, drawing on the screen and his original madden voice overs will always be my favorite memories of him. Him and Al Michaels were the best to ever call games
Al is the freakin’ man! What separates Pat from everyone else that does interviews is he’s ordinary and doesn’t sugar coat crap and let’s people speak their minds freely without apprehension
Greatest coach ever. Greatest football commentator ever. Greatest video game creator ever. Some people only get to do one thing - he did 1M things, did them so well and loved every minute of it. RIP Coach.
I’m 47, John Madden was my childhood/teenage years and a young adult fan of the NFL, he was like the peanut butter to the jelly and bread to make this delicious sandwich we eat today
The detail in your 2am Madden game at 12 years old = priceless! You are the real deal Pat! Great interview, and took us all back to why we loved Madden and the game of Games!
I'm from SoCal but I lived and worked for five years in NYC. I went to meet some friends from work on a late Sunday night at a restaurant/bar which was very close to The Dakota where John lived. My friends and I are having some beers, the Sunday Night Football game at the Meadow Lands had finished about an hour ago. In walks John Madden and his friends. We had a nice chat and offered him a beer and he said no I'll take a soda water, thank you. He was exactly like he was as a broadcaster. He was so normal and we all felt like we already knew him or had met him before...and we had met him before from his epic broadcasts. Thank you John Madden.
They should create an NFL award in his name given to the player each year who best exemplifies a love for the game. Idk how they’d judge that, but it just seems so right
Prime-time football was also great to watch with Al & John calling the games. Back in 2002, when John joined Al in the booth, as Dan Fouts moved to college football and Dennis Miller, who had no business being in the booth. When John came on board, the game was all about football, not this other nonsense. John Madden will be missed and as Al Michaels is getting up in age, he'll eventually retire- here's hoping someone like Dave O'Brien succeeds Al on Sunday Night Football and for God's sake, replace Cris Collinsworth with Kurt Warner!!!
I did not know about the documentary until you mentioned it. Found it on Hulu and watched it this morning. I cried like a wuss at the end. Thanks for the heads up. Definitely be watching it again.
Love the show… best 3 plus hrs of the day… as a NE PATS fan its hard to enjoy anything indy or giants for that matter but pat and the boys make it easy. Congrats on the fanduel deal… awsome job on the donations you gave.. consider me a stooge for as long as this thing keeps going!! Lets hope its a long long time and you dont do the pay to watch thing…. Love PMS and what its all about.
My oldest memory of anything Madden is my older brothers playing Madden 93 on sega genesis and later owned Madden 95. Both cartridges are still at my parents house. I can't imagine how Raider nation must feel with John Madden coaching them to two Superbowl wins. And how awesome of Al Michaels to be on Pat's show again. Pure class.
I was born in '53 and, as a Jets' fan, I was familiar with John Madden long before the game. I'm glad he wasn't the Raider's coach in '68, because the previous guy did a number on us in '67 (Heidi). He took over the Raiders the year after Joe's Guarantee. I loved him as a broadcaster, a true legend. Rest in Peace, John Madden.
Watching Pat make Al crack up absolutely made my day.......Madden was beyond a trail blazer in regards to modern day football and entertainment. The rules of life are alot like the game of football and he had a huge hand in teaching that way 💙🏈 RIP to such a great human being ❗🙏
Growing up playing John madden video game help me understand NFL as i grow up in Australia playing rugby league absolutely legend one of a kind R.I.P Thank You
Pat McAfee is a genius and a talented facilitator. He doesn't stutter and stammer his way through an interview; he interjects appropriately but is skilled at setting up the guest. He and Al Michaels have a connection and it will be fun watching Mr. Michaels on this show more in the future.
My dad said he met John Madden once either in 1986 or 1990 and he asked him who would win the super bowl. John said "the Giants of course" he was right. That still means so much to my dad
My favorite game of Summerall/Madden was 1991 NFC Championship Game. Summerall and Madden were on fire that day. It was one of the best games I ever watched from the actual game to the announcing.
I used to love watching John Madden call football games, when was with Pat Summerall another legend also may they both rest in peace calling the best football games now up in heaven! I'll never forget the game he called when Brett Favre lost his father and still played and just had the game of his life! And listening to John call that game man that was just something special RIP!
Ill never forget in Madden 09 it had a really cool new training simulation to teach you things in isolation, John Madden narrated it, and of course had been 1 of the announcers on the games for years, he was so great at what he did. What a good man
I'm from the UK , you don't realise what a legend he was until he left the booth, I played his game, although not a gamer like yourself, but he and Al were incredible, personality aswell as knowledge ,RIP John Madden , good health Al Michael's 8
John Madden is truly an NFL legend. He will always be my favorite football analyst ever. His voice and his commentary on the game was just legendary. I wouldn’t say his death was a tragic loss he lived a full life and touched millions of lives in the process.
As a diehard Chiefs fan, I always hated John Madden. Then, when he was no longer a coach, I learned about what a great guy he was. Few brought more to announcing than he did. He explained things that few others can. RIP.
Al Michaels has always been terrific. He’s definitely a voice of my youth. Would definitely be cool to see him on here more often he’s got so many damn stories.
My favorite part about pat honestly is his ability to let his guest speak and actually respond to what the person he’s interviewing is saying I think that’s a big part to why all this works so well and that skill is important on topics like this 💯
Madden was simply the best I remember him going over play's before the telisrater(that's what they called the yellow line thing.) I didn't quite get it but once he could circle the players. I learned so much from him and it was fun with the Booms, Wapps, Pows and Bangs!
Dad being a raiders fan watching those old NFL films the ghost to thee post on vhs oh yeah i knew about John Madden had a big heart and loved the game remember when Little Giants came out he pulls up in the bus with Bruce smith and others he lived his life impacted many with his love and passion for the game
John Madden. The father of fathers... The NFL GRANDFATHER. The one everyone wanted to make proud. The one who's opinion mattered most. The one who's smile gave you energy. The Gold Standard. A well of emotional intelligence. A compliment of genius. The voice that will echo the most in the halls of Canton. The voice of the NFL forever.
Please make Al Michaels a regular, he’s so fun to listen to in this type of platform
Pat’s reaction to Al’s saying he wanted to be a regular was like the expression of a little kid running downstairs on Christmas morning and seeing the shiny new bicycle he asked for under the tree.
Al Michaels Monday needs to happen!
Please make him every week!!!
Hearing Al Michaels swear is the most surreal thing in the world and I need more of it lol
Yup. Grew up with him doing Hawaii Islanders games
Hope to see more of laid back Al. He was so excited to be on the show.
For sure man. If you haven’t seen it check him out on pats show a couple weeks back. He’s smoking a cigar just being him it’s great
McAffee looked like he had an “I really made it moment” there too when Al asked to be a regular.
Al Michaels Wednesday?
As someone else mentioned Jaime, Al was awesome on the show a few weeks back. The reason Al seems to love being on Pat's show is because it's the dream. Al has spent his career working for giant corporations w/ big sponsors so he's always had to be at least a bit reserved. Pat on the other hand answers to no one. His whole brand his being unfiltered. That first “hell no” was funny. Pat thought he was referring to being a regular on the show 😂
Al needs to be a weekly guest. Lots of knowledge and we need to get it all out before he passes.
Michaels on monday
A-Rod the following day
I love hearing Al talk on this show
While that’s true it makes Al seem like a guy who is slowing down, the guy looks as healthy as ever, came on last time in a tank top. He just landed a top gig when he was really young and became a national celebrity at a young age with the Miracle on Ice, 41 years ago now, so he seems like he’s been around forever but he’s really not that old
Al Michaels sounds like a legitimate fan of the show. Pat realization moment is absolutely incredible
Al Michaels and John Madden defined m childhood and growth of football. Good on Pat gaining the insight as always
Ah, such a youngster! My childhood memories of growing up with football included John Madden as a COACH and Howard Cosell (in his glory years, not the declining end that Al mentioned) as the most familiar commentator voice.
RIP John Madden your Boom Pows will live on in my memory banks from your madden games for the rest of my days rest easy you absolute a Legend!
Pat MacAfee making this about himself. That’s a bad look
More AL Michael's will be golden!
I’ve experienced a lot of different years of Madden. Lots of fun times! Hopefully they’ll honor his memory and have him on the cover as well as an amazing game.
EA putting him on the Cover: 100% Yes.
EA making an amazing game: that’s a bit of a reach.
Knowing EA the only way you can get Madden on the cover is if you purchase the something higher than the standard version of the game. Like the Gold Edition or the Ultimate Edition. @@phillbucs i can see them doing that first part. I highly doubt EA would do the 2nd part

John Madden was such a personality, that 30 years later I still remember his Ace Hardware and Tinactin Athletes' Foot Spray commercials.
Tough acting tinaxtinc

RIP, Coach Madden. Thanks for the memories. Al Michaels...... Another legend!!
RIP John Madden, I will never forget listening to his legendary commentary!
The more I see Al Michaels, the more I love the man.
He is an absolute ICON.
Sad day for sure, I was shocked when I saw the news last night. The dude will forever be a legend, and sadly the world is a little less bright now.
RIP coach Madden.
As a Steelers fan I read his book when I was younger and enjoyed it. The book was straightforward and humble. I believe he was straightforward and humble as a person, coach and entertainer.
Same man born in Butler Pennsylvania I'll never forget John as the same I'll never forget cope. Frank Caliendo always did him just.
The best games of the 70s when he was coaching was when he played the steelers
Ha ha you read. Ha ha ha nerd.
Pat speaking during a moment of silence is the most Pat McAfee thing ever

I LOVE that Al Michaels is a friend of the show and about to have his own segment on the show. I didn’t realize how awesome he was until he was on your show.
Al: “you gotta make me a regular on this show”

And all but one of the seasons of his career were in a 14-game season format
He has 103 wins (most in raiders history) over his 10 years that's a little over 10 wins a season
Broncos radio today was talking about how Vic Fangio has almost matched John Madden's total losses lol
@@Menos510 lol
