- After decades of acquiring its awesome patina, Andy Kimball gets to drive his long awaited early type 3. Extremely original and with some very uncommon components, enjoy this walk around with Andy as he let us know the process that took place in order to get the car to where it is today. #VW #Type3 #SquareBack #SoCal #Patina #Original #Volkswagen
This Variant sat in our cave for years and years and years. Great to see it out and about again instead of collecting dust! -Michael
@@ispwest yeah definitely awesome to see on the road again AND to ride in it!
Such great info. Cool ride and glad it’s driving. That’s why we have them.
@@ScottyKarate-dy6bj We have to keep them alive so they don’t disappear. Glad you enjoyed it.
Absolutely amazing find and save!
Awesome video! Still surprised about all those differences and details these Type 3s have over the years. Andy did a great job with this one, congrats to him! 👌
@@svenboers yeah pretty sweet car. Glad you liked the video Sven!
Cool Squareback
Hope all ia well Eddy
Hey dude! All is well thanks. Hope you’re good man!
Cool 63! Thanks for making a video with a Type 3. My 69 SB came from Modesto County (now in VA).
Very cool! Glad you liked it.
One of the most amazing early Type 3's with a phantastic patina. You definetely recognize the father when you look into Andy's face 😉😉 Thanks Eddy for sharing.
Pretty fun to do an interview on him.
I'm surprised the dashboard doesn't have a million cracks in it NICE NICE ride ! also still a single Solex carb ?
Yes, it is still a singlecarb solex 32PHN
@@EddyCollins-TZN168 my dad taught me mechanics on old VW pancake motors 👍
@@hanskloss1331 hope you thanked him.
Have loved type 3s since my grandma’s in the 70s. The love, community, and commitment in SoCal just seems unreal and super cool. Super heartwarming to see, thank you.
saw it for the first time at the dealership takeover. When you have a patina car that looks like that......You dont paint it.
great video plus amazing information on early type 3's
@@gregsilva6077 thank you! Glad you liked it.
Love these type 3's rare as rocking horse 💩 in the UK but the patina on this one is brilliant I like the fastbacks the only thing that puts me off buying one is parts availability but cruising with one of these in the UK would be cool
Yeah, they are definitely a different beast when driving. They are much smoother and easier to drive than other VWs and feel quite smooth. As far as finding spares goes, it’s actually not that bad. There are a few different places, including ISP West who specialize in type threes.
Good job 👍 👍 👍
NO armor all will ever touch that dash!
Awesome!
Awesome! 👏🏻
I bought my old '63 Notch from original owner in Burbank, having only owned bugs before... I set out to "restore it" not knowing how hard the parts were to come by even 20yrs ago... i tore out the vinyl flooring mats he had, i also threw away the original white cap fuel pump... yeah, the T3 purists had a field day with me... Embarrassing story but I learned a lot from being an idiot
@@bassdaze oh man. Well, makes for a good story now. Anyway, I think we’ve all learned quite a bit of lessons as we grow up. There’s a whole bunch of stuff. I wish I would’ve kept from back in the day. As well as not thrown away.
I love the patina, looks like a “sun burn”
The squareback should be all the average person should need for most of daily needs. What do you one person driving a SUV or truck.
I saw one old lady driving a Hyundai SUV. She has to be plus 75. Talk about overkill. The masses have fallen for big trucks and big SUV.
Big is better. Big BMW SUV have gotten to big the have help assist to parallel park.

I love all early VDub's. I am envious of this one. Original is best. New cars have nothing over this.
Old cars have much more style and fun to drive.
