- In the first Episode of our ‘Story of a Golf Club’ series, we head to Silloth on Solway in Cumbria, which is ranked inside the Top 50 UK&I golf courses, and famed for offering the ‘best value’ golf experience by almost any publication worldwide. But we believe there is so much more to Silloth than a world class links layout, and some extremely enticing visitor green fees. The club boasts as a fascinating history stretching back to 1892, home to one of the greats of the women's game (Cecilia Leitch), alterations and lost hole designs by Alistair Mackenzie and with the assistance of Mackenzie & Ebert it has an extremely promising future.
We will be travelling the length and breadth of the UK & Ireland, helping to share the rich tapestry that is the history of golf, sharing the stories and folklore that have become fact, taking an aerial look at course architecture and showcasing the clubs and their unique ethos.

It takes me 6 hours to drive to Silloth and play this course once a year. Rain or shine, I leave tired, often broken, but grinning from ear to ear.
Great video. This is a magnificent course which I'm playing for the second time in 10 days and it can't come quick enough. Value for money hands down the best course I have ever played! This is a must for any time I voyage to the lakes. Get out there and play it if you can!
Brilliant ❤
Thanks
Played this course on Monday and apart from the initial rain it was a suburb day and excellent place to play this fabulous game of golf.Managed to score 35 points.
Great shooting! Wonderful place isn’t it
Played recently. An absolute gem.
This is now on my list
Definitely should be Charlie
Beautiful video. Brings back some wonderful memories of a very special place.
Yeah it’s a truly epic place
this is a golf course I have only played once it was a few days before Christmas a couple of years back, it was hugely enjoyable and also a challenge, and afterwards popped into the clubhouse it's just a place that's right up my street, down to earth set up and people,it's one of them courses that I would be happy if it was the only golf course I could play. fantastic video reminds I need to come back again soon
Thank you Stephen - really glad you enjoyed the film. Silloth is a very special place, a little off the beaten path which makes it more rewarding when you visit. Its incredibly underrated as links golf goes in England i think, and somewhere we cannot wait to go back to this year! :)
Bravo, captured exactly how I see Silloth, needed to see more of the clubhouse though, a real beauty.
Thank you - glad you like it! Yeah - worth knowing for future. Need to make sure we get all angles covered especially clubhouse 👌
Fantastic video. Not played Silloth for over 15 years, but do remember it was fantastic. However even though it’s a 2.5 hour drive for me, I am going down there in just over a week to play 90 holes over 3 days. So looking forward to it.
Joe Wilson have a great trip 👍 glad you like the video, hopefully it’s got the juices going! Episode 2 launching soon so hit subscribe :)
What a great video it’s on my bucket list and this video has enhanced that view

Thanks - a few more in the pipeline coming soon :)
This looks awesome!!!
Just you wait!
Going on Thursday 🎉
You’ll love it
Played there today stunning place, fabulous breakfast
Yeah - really cool welcoming place and a stunning golf course
Brilliant video. Lucky enough to have played it and it was an instant favourite. Luckily have family living in the lakes so will be playing it a few more times! If it wasn’t the arse end of nowhere it would be double the cost and have a much higher rating
Jonathan Birkby thank you - glad you enjoyed! it’s extremely good value which is no doubt part of the remote location, but in some ways I’m glad it’s remote - otherwise it wouldn’t be the same golf club! Wonderful place
This looks sweet!
Tom Mills 😎😎😎
Playing Siloth in a couple weeks. Was Looking forward to it but now I can't wait 👍 great content
sjmgolf_ break80 you’ll have a great time! Wind is brutal out there, so hope you get a calm day.... unless you’re a complete sadist
Thanks 🙏 more to come
I played the course and it's gone straight into my top 5 favourite courses (I've played) just stunning
Exorcist and Professional....interesting combo
How on earth have you only got 200 odd subscribers! Looking to play this week after next and this video has got me excited to play it! Thanks :)
Haha! We had a good run when we started which helped us get to 150! Building on that now 😉
You’ll love it if you haven’t played already - insane course and lively club! Go low, and thanks for the feedback
Really good content. Just found the podcast too. Great work guys.

The most underplayed/rated links?
I think value for the green fee is as good as it gets. I think they have a lot of traffic at times from people in the north of England. It’s often not talked about in the same way as some of the more famous one but deserves the same recognition
Agreed. We're caught between wanting to tell everyone about Silloth anh not wantinc to ruin it! #OurLittleSecret
I think that’s the key bit! If everything was out there about places like Silloth - then it would lose some of the mystique
