I didn't catch this early enough to learn your parent and child method for this project (my first avatar edit) BUT THANK YOU bc of all the searching i've done, you're the only one who taught me what i needed to do to fix my glitchy physbones (5:19) seriously thank you
THANK YOU SO FREAKING MUCH FOR THIS AWESOME TUTORIAL! I'm so sorry for caps locking this but.....I have been trying to find help on this for 2. YEARS NOW! And finally, I found you, thank god and thank you for making all these, I HATE blender!
Great video as always! Wish I had your videos when I was starting out with avatar work. And maybe next time for a video, you can show the basics of blender, cause for the life of me, I can't understand anything on blender.
I wish Unity actually had the skeletal mesh features UE has in which as long as your object has the same joint names it can be added to the main skeletal mesh without having to move duplicated joints around.
Thank you PxINKY, your video helped me add an outfit. I was stuck at one point and it was b/c i unpacked both my clothing AND my avatar and that was causing issues. Big help!
not working. i think i need to add my cloth to the armature or it will just float above the characters without following the animations in every movement but just floating and following. i don't know how to do it.
Wait, so if I have multiple clothing I would drag and drop them all into the child folder...? I've watched this multiple times and I feel like I'm gonna explode from confusion lol (it's my end that doesn't understand, your tutorial seems very easy to follow
So picture the container as a basket, and you want to put all your cloths in each basket So foot container gets all the foot bones foot.001 container gets all the foot.001 bones etc
Following along is pretty rough for me because you don't explain the goal of your actions. It's 6 minutes of instructions that aren't explained why they're related at all. Especially during the armature parent/child section. Copy this, rename that, drag it here, repeat... like we are all doing this exact thing you're doing. We aren't stupid. You can explain the method and reasoning.
That's the thing, I make my tutorials for the absolute beginners, I'm happy to explain why / how stuff works but it just inflates the video for the maybe ~10% that care about all the nerd-explaining This is the first comment I've had based on a more advanced explanation, and I have plenty of videos If you ever want 1 on 1 learning I do offer that on my server at the odd time (when I have free time) my goal has always been quick, concise, and working tutorials, my channel's main point is to help people who just started Unity for the first time ever, hence why I don't overload people with the explanation of WHY I do stuff. But thank you for the suggestion, I will give it a try at some point and see how it goes!
@@PxINKY Which is fine, but there's a lot of times you say word for word "drag this in here" and move the object so fast that it's hard to follow. I think it would be helpful to be more explicit on what you're doing. "Drag the object called [name] and drop it in the other [object name]."
I was wondering why bother with the folder stuff when I first followed the tutorial, just didn't bother, now my armature is a huge growing mess and I'm glad that tip is there
Hey. im trying to add like hoodie and pants to my avi and im having problem because they dont follow my body movement they just float in the air.. any idea how to fix it?
Ahh, this is my first time adding clothes using Unity. (Because I REALLY don't wanna re-export the fbx. I normally do, but I'm not this time.) Already I can feel my anxiety rise. (Wish me luck... QvQ)
The project I’m working on is frying my brain because some of the bones on the outfit have a different name than the bones on the avatar and some bones dont even have a place to go on the avatar so I’m completely lost. I guess this is my punishment for starting with something more complex as a first attempt. 😅
what happens if i dont have the root for the avatar? the jacket made for my taidum has wrist bones, but my taidum doesnt have wrist bones to attach it too. same thing with elbows.
The asset was made for the base, so no editing was required if your accessory / item is not designed with your base in mind you can always edit it (i have a tutorial for that under "fitting clothing")
This almost worked for me - however my avatrs boobs and elbows do not stay in the sweater when I move or adjust them. Ive been told I probably need to add blend shapes but dont know how to do so, anyone aware of a fix?
i made a top for my avatar using blender ( it fits quite nicely ), but i dont have any of the dropdowns as a result, its just an object. how can i turn it into something wearable? edit, i followed the tutorial about making clothing items however it doesnt attach the the bones still. edit, fixed. that doesnt usually happen
@@PxINKY alright ive decided to take the blender approach to adding clothes instead which worked - but now the avatar is permanently t posing ( it has bones ), and the camera is way out of wack. my partner said i need to "anthropomorphize" the model- how do i do that?
Oh, then I need to export the clothes AND the armature it had. I had it hidden so when I exported it the fbx never had an armature. Wish I just could assign each cloth part the bones from the main body and call it a day. After all, they were the same 🤔
This may be because the clothing wasn't made for your model, this will require either finding the right clothing for the base or using blender to fit it!
@@PxINKY Im having the same issue but no, I just downloaded some clothes prefabs and their not properly scalled or positioned. I was able to isolate just the arm warmers but both the left and right arm are in the same section thing in the higherarchy, unpositioned and unscaled. Im sorry for asking for help, im really new to Unity... Also, should I give you my discord so I can provide screenshots?
Every time you said "Spine Child" I got this really weird uncanny valley feeling. Great tutorial though, worked for me 👍

Took me a so many tries and many many uploads for my custom booth avitar with a ton of different assets but I eventually got it, thank you!!!
Took me a few replays in some sections, but I finally got it! Its easy as you say, just a bit tedious. Thanks for the vid and help man! Saved my ass!
I love the video and it helped a lot. Also "Spine Child" would be a hell of a name for a metal band.
This tutorial is seriously a lifesaver !! 🙏💕

What if the package you downloaded doesn't have an armature? I bought some sheep horns off of booth and they don't have one
I have a video on refitting that would go over armature.
You can also use my older hair tutorial!
Thank you ;^; I’ve been trying to figure this out for hours!!!
Wait! Forgot to add, it only gave me the unity package, do those videos go over that?

You will need to rename the bones (with blender)
but for the most part they should be simular names, you could try vrcfury
what happens if i dont have the root for the avatar? the jacket made for my taidum has wrist bones, but my taidum doesnt have wrist bones to attach it too. same thing with elbows.
Are you sure? could the bones be named differently perhaps?
@@PxINKY you are correct!!! thank you! i found the issue. "wrists"= "hands", and "elbow" was "forearms"
so my outfit im trying to attach, after unpacking it, only has one dropdown and its labeled "default". Do i have to do anything with that?
how did it just automatically fit your avatar without using blender im still stick on that part?????
The asset was made for the base, so no editing was required

My clothes dont show up on the avatar in game do you know possible fixes? I followed the instructions to a T☹️😭
interesting, did you make a toggle for them perhaps?

if you mean shapekeys i have a video for that! (like body shape sliders)

Im adding a tail. Does this work the same way?
I already have a video on exactly that! Check out my tail video featuring the nardo and fluffy tail!
I somehow still messed it up XD I did it how u explained but my guess is i missed a part somewhere XD
You can try the blender method
would making the clothing a toggle be the same process as your material swap video? or do i have to do something different
it would be like my toggle video, simply record 1 turning off, and 1 turning on.
@@PxINKY ok, thank you! your videos have been very helpful :)
Happy to hear! Thank you for the kind words ^-^
I followed these exact steps and I still get errors when trying to add outfits
What kind of errors?
I tried but I kept getting a “children of a prefab instance cannot be deleted or moved” 😭
unpack it
if you right click it there should be a "unpack prefab completely"
for mine it jus says ss shirt and glove could u maybe help me with that?i dont know where to put it
how do i make the fbx into a prefab
How do I make the clothing toggle-able (I’m using a mamehinata avatar)
Just like any other toggle
Oh, then I need to export the clothes AND the armature it had. I had it hidden so when I exported it the fbx never had an armature. Wish I just could assign each cloth part the bones from the main body and call it a day. After all, they were the same 🤔
Mind re-explaining this? I don't quite understand
i caught this video 7 months after it dropped
Lmao, I hope it still holds water all this time later! ^-^
so when i do this will make a toggle for me to take it of and put it back on or do i have to go in and do that my self
follow my toggle tutorial. It'll help you through creating the toggle!
Im trying to put a hoodie on my avi, for a hoodie would I have to put it at the hip bone section? Im sorry im slow lol
you would need to divi out all the parts inside and then if its empty you would place it under hip
what if it does not fit ???
If the clothing was not made for your base you will need to follow my fitting clothing tutorial!
Me clothes don't fit
This may be because the clothing wasn't made for your model, this will require either finding the right clothing for the base or using blender to fit it!
