    the Harley did surprisingly well. Busa lost a lot of time first 60ft trying to keep the front wheel down. Rider maybe could have gone better if he'd wound the power on a bit steadier initially. We all know Busa's are fast, so full credit to the Harley which usually aren't exactly known for high performance

    • @maekong2010

      Also, the V-Rod needed rear-sets for this race, Scott. Having to fight the G's to get his boot to the forward-mounted shift under full acceleration, killed the V-Rod, costing damned-near a half-second, by the time he got his foot oriented and all. Couple that with not fully exploiting the Porsche's rev-range and we're talking a second and a half. Meaning the V-Rod should have been competitive, even had the Busa not wasted all the forward momentum with its wheel in the air. I think they both should have crossed the line somewhere in the mid-to-high nines. There's just no way the V-Rod doesn't break 130 mph within a quarter-mile, with the right rider and feet positioned for a drag race.

      The engine design specs was started by Eric Buell in the 90's, he's been trying to convince HD to build a water cooled OHC engine since the 80's. HD used many of EB's designs to build the vr1000 from the engine specs to the fuel in frame. Many of the design ideas he carried over to his XB series of bikes where he also introduced the ztl brakes, but HD still only letting him use the EVO engine. Hd took EB's ideas and specs to Porsche to build the VRods engine. EB wasnt able to build his own engine until the 1125 and by then HD shut his company down. EB later come out with his own company and gave the motorcycle world his last gift the 1190.

Two different tools for two different riding experiences. With that being said, the V-ROD is a quick power cruiser. Same gear in both places: Brando jacket, vintage Levi’s and engineer boots. He may have come second on the race track, but something tells me he was a winner that night back at the bar, especially in that sweaty pheromonal outfit. Rrrrrrr.

    the second gear pull on a v rod feels a lot like a busa, but not as hard hitting. it'll pull hard till about 80, and then the busa will smoke it. the busa, stock, will pull from idle to 105 mph in second gear, and about 90, will start lifting the front wheel, if you don't lose it during the launch like this guy did.. best 1/4 i ever got on a busa was 10.2, but i'm 6'2" and 225, and that is a problem for getting into 9's;
    i've only ridden a v rod as a rental for one day on maui, and the pull in second is impressive. the bike handles like a wheelbarrow half full of tapioca pudding... afternoon winds on the island kept you from keeping it in a lane, going straight.

    Never owned a Busa but, I've owned many a liter-bike...R1, ZX10, zx 1400, and currently own a 2012 V Rod Muscle, a 2013 Screaming Eagle (CVO) Road King. I'd start by saying, if you're going to compare a 1300 busa to a v rod, then why not compare a busa to a top-fueler?...just about as moot in reasoning and in a pissing contest. Want to do another funny comparison?...ride that busa across the country vs a Harley ultra classic, and then jump back on here and brag and boast because the ultra didnt give you life-long spinal and wrist issues! Some people are just plain superficial to all-out retarded with their arguments! The V-ROD was never about a serious drag-bike...was more of a novelty bike catering to a niche-market. But want to bust american chops?...lets get this going then: Super funny?... Suzuki boulevard, Intruder, honda shadow, VTX...we can keep going. Harley never gave a damn about the sport-bike market, and still doesnt. They dont need to. And the reason they dont is the same reason I will always cross the country on a Harley. Whereas the Japs SURE gave a big damn about that cruiser/luxury/road market...so much so they've tried diligently to copy Harley on ever model, right down to the sound...now THATS pathetic, if you ask me. Who out of these manufacturers has tried to copy who the most? There are toys, and there are real motorcycles, and if you'd start a pissing contest over a Harley not showing well on a drag-strip, you're obviously a little boy needing his toy.

    • @sootrattlerolloff-road1415
      @sootrattlerolloff-road1415 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      skeletor well, lets start by acknowledging a couple facts: 1) Harley and Indian are the two oldest and originals in motorcycle racing, so they in no way need validation in putting out a performance bike...they started the stuff. That said, Buell was the product of more or less one rogue Eric Buell...Not Harley Davidson. To put it in perspective, Eric continued his bikes after being dumped by Harley, using BRP engines/components (Can Am). Eric needed funding, he WANTED to take advantage of both his knowledge of Harley components, as well as any loyalty the moco had for their long term employee. So, they took a chance on their guy, and if they made a profit doing it, so be it. They obviously never had any desire in a sport-bike market, or there'd be a Revolution 1250 engine in a 400 pound chassis up-tuned and eating-up the twisties. It would be super easy for them to take even the first iteration of that Revo motor (1130) and have it turning-out the same numbers as the best jap liter bikes...it's not that they cant easily do it...its that they have no desire in THAT market. THAT market is already flooded, so why not focus on being themselves, which is obviously who everyone else wants to be. The V-Rod was never intended to be a "Sport Bike", nor even a moco strip-ready drag bike. It was only ever intended to be a cool looking muscle-cruiser, that would appeal to a younger and more performance seeking segment. Anyone who ever referred to the V-Rod as a sport-bike has no idea what they are talking about. If harley was interested in building a beast of a hyper-bike, there'd be one in production. Anyone who pits a sport bike against a cruiser and brags about it, needs a life. Anyone who takes their cruiser, and races it against a sport bike, needs a big-wheel, as they obviously still have the mind of a child.

    • @whalesong999
      @whalesong999 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chopper, I don't think that they set out to copy H-D as the primary motivation. They set out to appeal to that Market segment that is smitten with that kind of personality appeal that comes with the V-twin genre'. V-twins have been a desirable configuration for motorcycles from many different marques since these machines first were conceived and elicit some kind of appeal that is hard to put a finger on. Ride on, each to their own - I'll take a 1959 BMW R-69s for my extended road trips.

Clearly the ‘Busa is the better bike on the highway or track but the VMax can definitely hang with super cheap mods that no ‘Busa rider would do to his bike because it would ruin the road experience, but do little to the VMax.

I like to race on track open days on my sports bike (2016 F4RR) and I don't consider myself Casey Stoner, but the Harley Davidsons on the track are a joke. Despite costing more than most sports bikes, the Harley Davidsons are slow, loud, heavy and handle worse than a one legged cat on a frozen pond. I often find myself lapping them on a 6 lap race. When they have bike shows with things like dyno shootouts and even burnout comps, they need a special event to separate the Harley Davidsons. It's just like the special Oylimpics for bikes.

      I once picked up a Cross Dock load out of SeaTac going to Harley-Davidson. I couldn't read the bills to tell exactly what it was, because they were double sealed. But I know the outside was written in Korean. Think on that.

      Chris Worley Designed by Porsche who are good friends of Willie G of HD who used their r&d to help build this engine design but guess what the patent on the engine is Harley Davidson so it's technically a HD engine because they are made built & put together in the HD plant. HD must be doing something right with it because they have won prostock NHRA sanctioned drag races with it for several years now beating Kawasaki & Suzuki 4 cyl bikes along with the now defunct Polaris victory that had raced for 2 seasons then quit ! Those Vrod bikes are running 6.90 - 7.00 second 1000 ft certified NHRA sanctioned tracks at almost 200 mph running on race fuel only .
