Thank you for the review. I am looking to automate turning on/off the lamp using an smart plug. So my question if you know is: If the light is on, and I unplug it from electricity and plug it back in will turn back on automatically or I need to reach and turn it on from the switch?
It can be set to Studio mode which means the light will automatically turn on when it is plugged into a power outlet. So yes this will work with this light.
No doubt Zhiyun is doing cool stuff with their lights! But not comparible to the quality of light and build you are getting here. Also don't let the "80" fool you. It gives 19850 lux at 1m at 5600K. The Molus 300 for example does 15500 lux in normal or 20300 lux in high power.
I'm clearly not the target audience for this since I'd rather get 2 Zhiyun X60 for half the price of one 80C. But this looks great for more professional sets.
I bet you see an amaran version come out soon when they realize no one in their right mind would opt for this over cheaper options that are close to par
@@davido9450 I would love to see an Amaran version. I just bought the 60X S as a hand held battery powered light for a shoot but now thinking of returning this for the 80C. Any thoughts on that? I'd need the Bowens adaptor since I use it with a small soft box and Aperture's fresnel.
It's about build quality, durability and consistency of light. Folks who work in harsh environments or with crews where day-call techs can trash gear hauling it in and out of the truck need those features. That IPX rating alone is a huge selling point. For one-man-band shooters this is probably overkill but still, there is a lot to be said for being able to trust that your investment is still providing returns years down the road.
You definitely will not see an Amaran version of this, probably ever. This chip will stay Aputure only. And the price is good, coming from a Nanlite 60c owner... This is cheaper, more output, fuller spectrum, better control with new modes and crmx, plus its ip rated, which the Forza 60c is none of the above, but it was more expensive when it came out@@davido9450
@@NeilEvery Sure that makes perfect sense, especially being weatherproof. I'm a small production company and don't rent my gear out, so the lighter duty of the Amaran series is fine for me. The other issue is that the 80C seems to have a lot more light output at the COB but with the narrow reflector it has less output than the 60Xs. With no modifier it's 288 lux for the 60XS vs 704 lux for the 80C (3 M - 5600K) with the reflector - 1877 lux for the 80C vs. 3510 for the 60XS. maybe @mitchgross592 www.youtube.com/@mitchgross592 can clarify.

@@SightseeingStan You are comparing the Storm 80C with a reflector with the Molus 300 bare bulb. The storm 80c offers, according to aputures website at 6,500K and 1m 6,554 lux 609 fc. Is that an honest mistake or are you trying to sell the light? I will still get the 80c, but not for its Power.
@@MajdalAlyouss both these numbers are the lights with reflector as I found it on their websites. I have nothing to gain with any of these lights. Quoted from Zhiyun website "The illuminance value is obtained by testing at 100% brightness with the ZHIYUN standard reflector at a distance of 1m."
@@epuri Well, not “charging” per se as there’s no internal battery in the STORM 80c, however YES you can power the light via the USB-C port. Note that this requires a 100w power bank (20amps at 5v), so you need a decently powerful USB battery. And also yes, the USB-C is also how you can load firmware updates.

@@Kayotified Sure there are cheaper options out there, like $350. But there are just not in the ballpark of this light. Even looking at let's say the Nanlite Forza 60c, which is $699, it's not as feature rich or pro level as this one. So then this price isn't too wild...
@@SightseeingStan Nanlite has new Forza 60cr RGBLAC which appears to be just as feature rich or pro level as this one. Most of my cob lights are Nanlite and I own the Forza 60c bi-color. I want to either upgrade to or add a RGBLAC version. The main selling point for me choosing this light over the Nanlite would be the IP rating. great video dude but pls stop saying "which we look on in a second" ten times in a row - it makes your first 3 minutes seem like a trailer :) just an honest feedback
Can we get this kind of LED light reviews to stop saying "its only on 2% so its really powerful" without saying anything about a lumens/candela or exposure information means nothing and is just covert plugs. Its also unprofessional and only tells how uninformed the "reviewer" is.
For 600 usd the Bowen's mount adapter deserved to be included in the original kit
