@Level1Sword Yeah, games that focus too much on being online will eventually become unplayable, so why bother?

Some peoplw online are rude and expect yoiu to play a certain way. For MMOs you often need to join a party to level up quicker but they have clans and rules that the clans make up and sometimes it's way too strict and not fun at all. I end up going solo sometimes and jump in for big boss fights. 👍

the only games that have multiplayer that i will play that component is if it has a bot mode
i firmly believe every game with multiplayer in some form should have a bot mode (especially if online-heavy/only so its like a backup plan when the servers eventually go off)

@@RetroBirdGaming Yeah, Kingdom Hearts is just far too complex for me to bother with it. I like games I can just jump into without any prior knowledge of the series. Disgaea 5 Complete may be the 5th game but it had a completely separate storyline from the previous games. Though, those previous game characters can be unlocked later.

There's actually quite a few games you can skip, as they are explained well enough throughout the main games. The only "necessary" ones are I would say Birth by Sleep, 1, Chain of Memories, 2, and 3. There's a plot point between 2 and 3, but instead of playing a 50 hr game to learn it, just read 4 paragraphs.

As a big fan of the Resident Evil series I will say that RE7 is the most tense out of the latest games in the series so definitely wait with that one if you have a hard time with horror games. If you are new, I highly recommend either Resident Evil 2 remake or Resident Evil Village depending on if you prefer third person or first person. RE Village is generally forgiving on Standard difficulty offering a generous amount of ammunition, but does also have an even easier casual difficulty. RE2 is slightly tougher on standard than Village, but very manageable, but also has a casual/assisted difficulty mode for beginners.
In RE2 you also have the option to play as Leon or Claire, I would suggest Claire as her Campaign does have a few things that make it slightly easier compared to Leon.
TLDR: I ragequit the demo of the OG RE2 back in the day and thought that was that, but thankfully went back after having mastered tank controls by borrowing RE1 from my brother. After mastering the demo, I was hooked on RE and was a fan for life :)

I like turn-based RPGs because I feel like a lot of them let you put the game down for a day at a time and come back to it, and you are not in active time battles so you can set the game down mid-battle. Any game that doesn't rely on save points to save your game is a huge plus for me.

I typically avoid the Gran turismo series, I never really liked the gameplay, and as a kid who has devoted at least more than 5 summers to Burnout 3…I’d say I like the hectic and chaotic racers vs gran turismo and forza. But that’s just racing games, I tend to also steer clear of halo.

    • @suntannedduck2388
      @suntannedduck2388 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Understandable. Uses to love them but each entry past 4 got worse for me as well as the saving nonsense that while makes sense applies to 1% so online aerveyto avoid avaing annoys me now and my PSP save file is gone due to 'swapping handhelds even with the same memory card even if upgrading your PSP brings up a deletion message when on memory cards for PS2 it was still fine to take your save or garage with you'. 3 has my favourite handling/physics so it's always a replay for me but otherwise the direction and gimmicks never interest me anymore. 6 was alright but even still and Sport is a disappointment. Driveclub I didn't mind but it's not the same and MotorStorm is a bit awkward to play (at least the first one). I mean that State of Play and track ruining changes I've seen told me everything I needed to know for the lead up to the game and how they want to market a circuit racing game to everyone compared to story driven games which to me is hilarious marketing compared to Forza Horizon which is accessible to anyone and I'm not a Motorsport fan but enjoy a good racing but switched to arcade racing games now and most of racing sims are fine but on PC or don't do it for me. Forza is fine, not played Assetto Corsa, Grid Legends I hope redeems itself as Grid 2019 was safe and boring for a simcade..Gravel was alright arcade rally fun and WRC/Formula 1 are on and off ok for sims but don't care for the licenses or teams compared to how other racing games are structured. Had more fun with Ridge Racer, Project Gotham Racing 1-4 and WipEout/F Zero type futuristic racing games. Fine with the few bike games played. Stuntman and Stuntman Ignition are cool spins on driving and Juiced is an alright street racing experience for arcade racing besides Midnight Club or Need For Speed.
Burnout Paradise wasn't my thing as I kept getting worse at the map design in later events and not into open world's personally, the city wasn't memorable or great to navigate I found so hoping to get into 1-3 if I can find them.

I'm the same, I never understood the popularity of that series. Any driving game in general really such as Forza games. I'm not much of a driving game or fighting game type. Halo I definitely never got into back then so I completely avoid it and pretend it doesn't exist. I like shooters but mostly oldschool ones. Not a fan of scifi shooters though unless it's Metroid Prime because that game is more about exploration.

Yeah realistic racers are more like driving sims. Nothing wrong with that, it appeals to car enthusiasts. My idea of a racing game is more like Cruisin, Mario Kart, Snowboard Kids, Daytona USA, Diddy Kong Racing, ect. It has to be fun, especially with mutiplayer. Funny you talk about the premium free time comes with adulthood. My wife and I were literally just talking about this. I was sharing my discontent with the sheer level of grinding and hours it takes to progress in Elden Ring. I have to push myself to stay awake for "late night" sessions. I can only play for about 2 or 3 hours per session with a couple occurrences a week. So at 4-6 hours a week on a soulsborne game, it'll take the entirety of 2022 to see through to fruition.
Interesting retrospective. My stance is definitely in alignment with this.

While technically not a series, I avoid 3D games for 3 general Reasons:
    1) I don’t have much free time and 3D games are much more demanding than 2D games
    2) i hate feeling lost
    3) awkward controls (possibly because I didn’t grow up with 3D games, and 2D games feel more natural)

I like 2D games WAY more, I get that. A lot of times I will be shopping for a game and I see that's 3D and I just skip over it because I prefer 2D indie retro style games most of the time. @Conner I grew up with both 3D and 2D games but I played mostly 3D games when I was younger. Not all 3D games make you feel lost! Ever Oasis and Gurumin 3D are two really fun games on the 3DS. You could also pick up a Story of Seasons game because those are always nice. Controls being awkward in 3D games is probably because of the whole 8-directional movement system which isn't that bad. Wind Waker has excellent game controls! There's a game out there for everyone. Be sure to play A Hat in Time if you want buttery smooth controls!!! It's one of my favourite games.

For me it has to be Zelda. As a Nintendo fan and collector it doesn't make much sense why I wouldn't like their most acclaimed series that much but for me the games are just too boring and frustrating. I've given the series plenty of chances but I felt that way 20 years ago and I still feel the same way about it today. It's so easy to get stuck or not know where to go or what to do. It feels like you almost need a guide to progress through the game unless you already know what you're doing and where everything is. I'm okay with using guides and walkthroughs SOMETIMES but if you have to rely on them constantly I feel it defeats the purpose of a video game. In many other games you get stuck as well, but usually you have a good idea of what you need to do. Or you're just not executing things properly and need more practice. In Zelda if you get stuck then you're stuck and there isn't much fun to be had unless you are progressing forward with the story and different abilities and what not. You wonder aimlessly with not much to do.

It's an excellent game, but I've never been good with puzzles and I always wished I could like Zelda more. The great thing about breath of the wild is that the puzzles are not huge dungeons like they had always been and they are really shrunken down, but I've still had to use a guide on quite a few of them but they're not nearly as tedious.

    • @chaospoet

I have a love/hate relationship with Zelda. Most of the hate is for the you need a guide reason. A Link to the Past I didn't need one, but Minish Cap it was practically every 5 minutes. Breath of the Wild over a 200 hour long playthrough I looked something up maybe half a dozen times total. Wind Waker by the end I was using it as a crutch trying to find the Tingle Charts, how to get the camera, and especially trying to find and then get on the ghost ship. They either get it really right in terms of what to do or get it 100 percent wrong. The consistency in that regard is extremely frustrating.

@@megamob5834 I've never played Majoras Mask but I've heard since it came out it can be a huge pain. I've avoided on reputation. I may just try it one day and see for myself but not any time soon. Minish Cap I got to the final boss, and phase 2 of 3 and it's so ridiculous, probably the hardest Zelda boss fight, that I just gave up and TH-camd the ending. A bit lackluster after all the effort. Wasn't worth the hassle of trying over and over again just to say I beat it. I got to the end boss. That's good enough for me. Especially in that game.

    Any **FromSoftware** game.
To suffer in 2D games is one thing (just look at the username, huh huh) but to suffer in 3D feels even worse to me because it's way more complex in my experience and I like to relax somewhat after coming home from work.
Also **almost every 3D Zelda** (with exception for Wind Waker) because I get lost easily and often have no clue on how to solve a dungeon which easily makes me lose interest if there are better games to play.
Square Enix RPGs too because I don't like the grinding aspect.
And Yakuza because it feels like there is a million games.

First off, that "games to play" song made me legitimately LOL. I've currently put 40 hours into Elden Ring at the moment & am far from finished, since this game is a project I'm considering sprinkling in some other games (primarily retro).
I can't say there's a series I purposely avoid due to self control, but Shenmue is something I tried & wasn't for me. Also speaking of StarCraft, it was a huge game for me back in the day (I loved it & was the first game I preordered actually) but I tried replaying it when the remaster came out & I couldn't enjoy it anymore since it's too slow. Maybe again one day when I feel like I have more time.
Speaking of games to play, I just purchased all 7 Yakuza games (already beat Like A Dragon) & I can't wait to play them all in 2023.

Personally it's always been the story, characters, visuals and character designs that have put me off, despite the combat system looking like something that'd be right up my alley. I am tempted to try Tales of Arise and I hope it will be the game to change my impression of the series.

    • @FlareFoot57
      @FlareFoot57 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I'd recommend Tales of Arise. It pretty much remedies all of the issues of character designs and overall visuals. Previous Tales of games always looked like a console generation behind, but this time they threw tons of money at it (you won't be getting any bell-bottom wearing Asbels in this game). Characters can definitely fall into the expected anime tropes, but at this point I've found enjoyment in that. Combat is great with a very expansive and free-form upgrade progression system that entices you to try everything.
Thankfully, Bandai Namco run sales on their games all the time, so maybe wait on that if you don't feel like overcommitting. Hell, it might be on sale right now for all we know.

The concept art by Kosuke Fujishima is nice, but the character portraits and character models that actually made it into the game just look awful, to me. It looks like the animation style of anime meant for 10 year olds. Star Ocean Second Evolution for the PSP had the same problem.

When talking about the 'one more chance' part it brought back flashbacks to Pokemon.
Absolutely loved the series for years but a lack of evolution(ironically) to the series made later games feel really stale with Black and White being the last games I can say I really enjoyed. I officially dropped off around X/Y, skipping Sun/Moon, their Ultra versions and Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire.
And yet I couldn't escape the allure of Pokemon and came back for Let's Go Pikachu and Pokemon Sword which disappointed me as I'd hoped skipping some generations would amount to me noticing a bigger change. It didn't, and even after many hours sunk in I realised I wasn't enjoying myself.
Yet here I am, still wanting to play Legends: Arceus which looks like something a bit fresher for the series, but considering Violet and Scarlet have already been announced less than a month after Arceus' release makes me think this series is doomed to hold an Everstone forever.

For a while I avoided Pokemon, mostly due to a corrupted save file I had with Pokemon SoulSilver. The other one is often battle royale games. Some of it is because I suck at them, but those games have flooded the market and can be very unforgiving when you lose.

At the beginning of the video I thought why would I stay away from a game series that I'm sure to like? Then, when you sang your cute little song, one game series immediately came to mind: The Legend of Heroes.
As a life-long JRPG fan I'm sure that I would like or maybe even love these. But have you seen how many games there are in this series? And most, if not all, of the newer titles supposedly take 80+ hours to beat, if not much more. The task of playing them seems so daunting, that I haven't started any of those games yet. Nowadays I really don't have as much time as I used to have, so I gravitate towards shorter games. Even older JRPGs, as long as they may be, usually tend to be around 20 to 30 hours for a blind playthrough. That's a lot more palatable.

Green shirt…. I know there is a color rotation, but I haven’t noticed or figured out the pattern.

So far he hasn't worn the same shirt 2 vids in a row. He always changes shirts from Green to Yellow or Blue. If I am not mistaken we should see him with a blue shirt this Friday because he already did Green, Yellow.

Animal Crossing, I’m pretty sure I’d enjoy the game, but the time commitment in that game is crazy from what I’ve heard.

I deleted my 20 year old file.... I had max money, caught all the fish / bugs / fossils / big house / filled my house with collectable mailboxes that made noises then proceeded to make music beats by using certain ones... Man that game is time consuming I spent my whole childhood on that game and still didn't collect everything possible.

Monster Hunter springs to mind when this subject is brought up. I've tried many times to get into that series and it just doesn't click for me. It's a shame too as I'm a huge CAPCOM fan and love almost all their other series but this is one that I can't get behind.

I did not like Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate, but it grew on me. I thoroughly enjoyed MH4:U and MH:Generations. I am also digging MH:Rise.

I for one so love RPG or specifically JRPG.
Its nice to know some people really avoid this. Well at least we have lesser competition for collectors of rpg games. Hahaha
But cool to know. It all boils down to your preference. Just the game if you don't like then search other one.

I avoid the Persona series and the Souls games. My time is better spent elsewhere. With a wife, kids, and adult responsibilities, I tend to avoid games that take a super long time to finish, with the occasional exception... like right now I'm playing God of War (2018) and it has me sucked in. It's quite an adventure for me. It's a triple A modern game with no b.s. and gives a tough but fair challenge (unless I'm getting into fights in places I'm not supposed to be yet). Exploring is pretty rewarding, but sometimes doing that can cause me to get a big fat klonk on the head that puts a loading screen in front of my face :P

I avoid the Dark Souls series even though I'm pretty sure I would like it. I don't mind when games are hard, but long AND hard? I can see that just sucking up way too much time. That and I tend to do what you said and stick to franchises from my childhood like Dragon Quest. Even though the games are long, a lot of it is story so I feel like I am getting more out of it than just grinding on a boss until I "git gud."

I barely have time as it is and now, I'm starting a local business shortly, so I have little time to play.
So that means all RPGs, even though been trying to play Xenosaga 2 and Persona 5 when I have the time but my time is up (unless on a Sunday) as soon as _____ finished talking.

this ones less game series and more game tech
nearly all games from the 8th gen, most 7th, and even a couple 6th snd earlier (provided they have mods or worse graphics than the console version) i choose the pc version to get the lowest possible resolution and graphics (mods too, but low graphics come first)
4:3 aspect ratio too, which is doubled by the 8th generation just completely getting rid of that option

For me it's more about genre. There are genres that kinda put me off but will still play one occasionally like open world or turnbased. But the terms that instantly turn me off are MMO, MOBA, battle royale, sports, basically anything multiplayer I'm just not down with no matter how good it's supposed to be.

I try not to totally avoid most game series, one I can think of are hunting and fishing games, because those things don't interest me in the slightest, though fishing is fun as a side activity in other games, I dabble in COD but have an overall negitive opinion on that series, but with Microsoft owning it, I think it might improve
