Awesome, looked like fun and torture at the same time! Can’t wait to see the 2nd attempt!
I like the craziness of three friends. I envy you guys, you are all on the same page. Good on you.
If it were easy someone would have done it already. It looked a lot like work with a fair bit of danger. That being said, you clearly have what it takes and now can tackle the challenge with more experience and hopefully better weather.
Quality educational entertainment!
Thank You!
Flying the kite for this long time must be quite a challenge on it's own. Great adventure
Awesome guys badass. The things we do just because 😂😂😂
That certainly qualifies as adventure. Congrats.
Very brave of you guys I have to say, when I was messing with kite boats and boards 40 years ago, an hour was pretty crippling. Had some of my best sailing experiences on the Solent and along the south coast. You might have had more success if you had set out from Cowes about three hours before low water using the end of the tide and slack water to clear the Needles and the fresh incoming tide to carry you around the island and back to Cowes.
Cool idea and adventure and again something different next to common kite blabla of all the others. Looking forward to the next different video. Go on Sam!
Bloody awesome try. Looked seriously hard work. 🔥🔥🔥
Nice work guys don’t give in, looking forward to seeing the upgrades 👍
Hey 👋 it's a pleasure to meet you here and sorry to ask you are those hair of yours natural?🌹🌹🌹
Epic try lads, Hayling and the Solent were once my playground, great to see on film. Good job!, 😎
If you raise the anchor point of the kite a little and build a seat behind it you will be much more comfortable I think. I like this kind of adventure videos a lot.
Great to see somebody actually doing this, have through about it some time..
Looking forward to see your guys 2nd attempt, Cheers 😎
Great video. What an adventure, next time for sure.
Fantastic. Congratulations Sam
Great adventure guys ! Definetely good decision to call it, thats how you can recognise a good sailor :)
Great call!! Safety first. I am sure in the summer you will have great wind and better sea conditions. Also pack goggles and a warmer wetsuit. As you know. Awesome effort!!
Awesome 👍 I was thinking this already long time but never did do something with it… congratulations taking kiting to new innovation
Yeah! Subscribed. Excellent attitude and decision making.
absolute legend. Great adventure boyz
excellent! can't wait for net attempt :)
Wow! Well done. Fantastic effort.
Great video mate! Smash it second time round :-)
That's too funny, my buddy and I did that with a 16' hobie about 20 years ago on a big windy reservoir in Kansas.
The Hobie 18 lives on!
Shame to see you selling Swansong! Love the sailing videos and adventures you've had with her. Keep up the quality content though :-)
Might trade her in for a deep sea fishing boat so I can get further/faster for more missions 😄
so crazy challenge,an other diferent use for a kite 😂 thanks for share , see you in the Next adventure
Epic !!!! Like to strap a 15m foil with 50 m lines onto that magnificent contraption !! 🪁 ⛵️
Edit : 3:05 Those succulent sizzlers 🥓 make Canadian Bacon look extremely insufficient ! Now I’m hankering for some meaty slabs of roast beast (:
Congratulation for the experience! It was very interesting to follow and I’m waiting for the next round! I would appreciate a big air jump with the boat and your fellows, at the end of the day😜
Jump jump jump! ;)
Hobie Alter would be proud.
Waiting to succesfull attempt🤓 your kiteboat is a piece of sick art😍
Please turn the music off or down, we can't hear u very well. What an EPIC adventure well done, such a rush until u freeze to death, bit annoyed ur so called mate didn't give u his gloves while ur flying the kite. Anyway great stuff thanks🇦🇺
real cool!! Best of luck next time dudes!!
Great effort! Kudos
Very cool adventure guys! Nothing ventured...
Keep up the spirit boys. Stef Juncker, owner Parapax tandem paragliding CT
ive been doing this same thing for years its so fun!!
Looks incredible, well done all of you despite the bad luck with the weather!
Do you think kites will ever be used on larger cruising boats? Thoughts on how it compares to sailing a hobie normally? upwind performance looked surprisingly good--you don't imagine a kite could tack, but shows what I know haha
You guys are mad. Cheers
Beautiful !
Always good to see Tom joining you on a mad adventure :) - Look forward to the next attempt - hopefully this time you pack your neoprene beanies and gloves next time!! Do you think you would have made more progress if you'd have used the 15m or no?
Possibly but there would have been more chance of breaking something, we needed to leave two hours earlier, I thought we would have made faster progress
@@SamLight that's all part of learning! You know for next time and now you'll smash it 😎. But yeah account for your faffing around time when setting the schedule 😅
Gotta try again and leave on time 🤪 looked brutal
great video, will be following for updates
full send!
Good effort, looks like if the tramps were higher up you’d stay dryer. Supported an 18ft skiff that went round in a few hours, many moons ago.
Detected a lack of enthusiasm there about making the round again. Can't say I blame you after that grueling trip. But I imagine in a few days time the wheels will start turning again and the worst will be forgotten until next time. Everyone who pushes against the sides of the box feels like that. You know there's something outside the box and you just can't rest until you get there. See you on the other side mate.
This will be fast and awesome. Looks like hoboe 18
Awesome! So glad to see the kite boat out again. Do you use the daggerboards much? Keen to know what the next mods are going to be other than the single tiller.
yea the daggerboards help going upwind but you don't need them, we want to build a seat for the kite pilot to sit in so its easier to steer the kite for long periods of time, a mini spray hood would be nice as well!
@@SamLight got ya. Yeah see how a seat could help. You might just need some of those uber-cool wrap around glasses like Tom to avoid the splash in your eyes. Wicked stuff sam look forward to seeing the next attempt.
Looked brutal!! Wonder if a different starting point is in order?
All you need is an autopilot for the bar. 😂
Good idea.
You can make your performace Better Up wind, locking your chicken loop's kite in right side when te kite is in right side and lock in left side when the kite is in the left side.
For achieve that, maybe you need somethin like slider, and maybe 1 winch each side, to habe the control with the position that you gonna put the chicken loop.
Let me knwo if your team try this experience.
The fishers move the boats from the earth with one similar tecnique. Puting one linea in back side, and other in front side.
I hope you undertand me.
Could you put a foil between the hulls & get up out of the water? Maybe a different boat all together would be easier?
Throw some foils on that cat, lol!
Probably should get some custom dagger/foils and foil rudders, you might stay a little dryer!
Mate is there a reason you don't use a tiller extension? Would help to keep the driver away from the geyser that shoots up between the tramp.
10,000 wave smashes in the face
Get a bigger boat for three people. Get the helmsman to sit further forward so the transom is not dragging. Hobbies have very small hulls and sit low in the water get a higher boat. These changes will make the boat faster and less wet. also lower the sail control.
[Now🇹🇭4K] Great
Great video - but would have preferred it without the background music!
Is this the future of sailing?
Classic
would it be better starting at Lymington then you would be fresher for the most challenging part ( the needles ) ?
Tradition suggests the starting line, off the Royal Yacht Squadron at Cowes Castle, ever since ‘America’ started and finished there in 1851.
Awesome day, dudes
what app is that on your phone that measures the knots and such?
Like to go from Miami to the Bahamas on one of these...
Hi i was wondering if you could give some advice.
I recently bought a 11.5m 2011 (i think) best kahoona kite
And a 2012 9m fone most wanted bandit both with bars and lines. The kites themselves look structurally sound but im concerned about breaking lines or the chicken loop not working 'under preasure' they both work when tested.
Should i replace them? And if so with what? Can i simply get new lines? Do i need to check anything else? Not a lot of people kite around me and the nearest kite shop is about 100miles away.
Are you new to kitesurfing? Generally it is definitely not recommended to go on your own unless you already have a ton of experience. So many small things can go wrong with big consequences. I would clearly recommend to learn with an experienced and certified instructor, and then have them assess whether your gear is safe. Since the user friendliness and safety systems improved a lot the last ten years.
Personally, i bought two 2011 liquid force kite setups, and was taught be a friend with 7 years of experience who was used to indtruct in snowboard and climbing (point is: dont trust your life to someone who is not good at instructing). First 15 sessions i always went surfing with instructor to minimize tje consequences of the inevitable fuckups of learning :)
Lol nice.
A Hobie with dagger boards?
epic
Kite s the Future in quick sailing, quicker and stabile Winds above, no lever and Torque from a Mast.
Fouls and gliders, 80 knots ?
What do you thinking?
Does Tom Court get paid to take part in these adventures?
Haha no we’re just good buddies, he should be paying me if anything 😂
What is the type of the hull? Thank you.
Sam, I love you videos. Super fun to watch. I have a Inter 20 and a bunch of kites and I want to try kite boating on it but once the mast is up it stays up for the summer It has triple traps and 3 sails, lots of rigging. But I also have a Hobie Tandem Adventure Island. Which would be much easier in every way since I can roll up the sail and take the mast down while on the water. I live by Lake Michigan. I just don't know if the Hobie is made strong enough to take the stresses that the kite would put on it. Do you know anyone who's tried it?
I’m sure it would be fine. Theres way less stress on the boat with a kite, the center of effort is much kinder to the boat. You could put a kite on almost any boat, just start with a smaller kite to learn how it works
What kind of watch, if you don't mind,😀 please..
And to think, I just had an idea to use a kite on my 9 ft inflatable dinghy….then I found this video…so it is possible!! Righteous. The only thing I can’t understand …is how you jibed both directions…UNLESS, you had a wind direction change.
yea its great fun! It will work on your dinghy, however there will be more drag than the hobie cat and you need a solid point to attach the kite to on the boat. its really easy to gybe and turn downwind, not so easy to tack upwind...
It seems that the cat is a bit too small?
i read 100 kmh :-D
Music fekked it up.
I hate when a video looks really good, but I can't hear anything due to the music, or I have to turn it up too loud.
I dont know what you've said for the past few minutes since the music started so I'll just turn the sound off and see what happens.
where are your foils?
I have a hobe 15 catamaran for sale it dose not have a Main sale the hulls and rudders are in good condition
what is the name of the location?
We set off from Hayling Island, then attempted to go around the Isle Of Wight
Why did you mix the original sound with horrible 'music' ?
Ergh musi cnt hear u
