I'm calling it now - when they go wide release, they'll do like they did with the Lawson Turtles and do individually packaged Turtles, with more accessories, but also throw in an alternate head for each with them. But maybe they'll throw some in as part of an accessory pack instead!

So, I says, to the ppl, shops closed, Hatter did an unannounced review drop, even Hatter didn’t have no time to throw on the pants! Some one says, did Hatter go shopping w/no pants? I says, I dunno, he’s a wildcard… something must’ve happened for hims to do a review to not even put on the pants. Tony two-muffins says ‘My dog wears pants’. ‘So Why didn’t Hatter’? I'd love to get my hands on those turtles, but I don't live in the US, so I will have to wait and see if they show up in the neca store. I have two theories as to why these don't come with additional heads. 1) They are not expecting it to sell well, so they saved some money. 2) They are already planning to sell the "ultimate" wrestling individual turtles.
The accessory situation will probably feel better the more pro wrestling aliens they release. The set is lacking on them, but I feel like by the end of this, I'm going to have a giant galactic fight display.

These costumes originally were to be the outfits that Eastman and Laird were going to re-design and make them their normal appearances, but they changed their mind.
The reason for the different colours is the wrestling designs actually predate the Turtles getting coloured headbands, they just weren't used until after (really, this is what happened, they were designed by Eastman & Laird). The references in the crowd are mostly in the rows with the mammoth man (Manmoth) and the classic grey alien (The Sons of Silence), I won't spoil 'em for eveyrone. And yeah I wish they came with extra heads too (but at least they gave Symbiote Raph the head he needed), my conspiracy theory is that the pack ended up being more expensive than they thought and they cut the extra heads and they'll show up in some Archie accessory pack (which better include Headrush).
Donatello even wore this outfit in a flashforward Mirage story. Another fun fact: the interior of the wrestling issue was drawn by Jim Lawson. These are based more on the cover and the second wrestling issue. Lawson did a fair number of Adventures issues and you could honestly reuse the bodies. Another fun fact: Lawson created Rat King. Rat King never appeared in color in Mirage. None of his appearances to my knowledge were colorized until IDW. IDW used two references for Rat King's color scheme: a Lawson drawn issue of Adventures and a merch guide from Mirage used mainly for stickers and greeting cards. The Rat King figure out now uses the Archie colors (that IDW used for Mirage) and his alternate head looks to me like how Lawson drew him at Archie. (Technically, Rat King's first cover appearance was color and he was briefly in City at War, that I think got colorized? But they were colored in a dramatic way where you couldn't tell what the actual colors are, I think.)
@@pmgerard Fun facts on top of fun facts on top of fun facts: Mitchroney drew the Wrestling Turtles in the following issue (issue 8) BUT you've hit on a problem I (maybe prematurely) have with the Archie line - Mitchroney drew a very small amount of the series (most of it was by Chris Allan for those wondering, Allan drew the second wrestling issue). You're misremembering Tales 4 where the Rat King appears front and centre coloured in moldy brown without any dramatic lighting to speak of (other than shading) but you're right about his CIty of War cover (Issue 55) it's basically a silouette.🙂 There are however a few characters that were only colourized by IDW, Kirby for instance.

Also, that Tales issue has him as a homeless guy and City at War has him as an otherworldly god and Archie (which could be the same guy, ala Renet or Cudley) gives his origin as a homeless guy becoming a god, the only place that provides a link between his Tales usage at Mirage and his appearances written by Laird in the main book.

@@pmgerard I totally get what you mean with Tales 4 (I don't agree obvously). I'd imagine we'll end up getting four Rat Kings related to this new figure if Neca can sell 'em - IDW colours Rat King, Mirage colours Rat King, Archie Rat King and posssibly Tournament Fighters Rat King but yeah I wouldn't be surprised if we see people buying multiples. Also I will say that he does die in Tales 4, so his transition to otherwordly thing in City at War isn't completely bonkers.

These look so awesome. NECA really put some effort in on these, I’m here for that. Johnny release junk fortunately didn’t have a say about this one. Remember when turtles in disguise was $124.99? They really cut back on accessories 😅
The lack of alternative heads is a real bummer, but these still look incredible and are representations of the figures I never thought we would get so I'm gonna have to grab a set. Regarding the lack of accessories, I think they used this set to justify the new tooling and molds for Archie Turtles and that the inevitable four pack of them in more standard outfits will have all of the accessories we have come to expect from the multipack turtles. While I'm happy the cross sell confirms an El Mysterio figure is in the works, I'm still busy waiting and wanting them to do a Ninjara figure and perhaps most importantly an April as the fifth turtle from TMNT Adventures Special #11
I've got 7 or 8 boxed sets. They used to cost $120 now they're $150. However each set comes with less accs than the previous one. I like this wrestling set but don't feel it's worth it. Great review as usual.

Beard dude on insert is that puppet Pizza Club Mikey came with, but no one knows who it's meant to be😂 The ring will be the accessory pack. There's one from epic hacks that has a storage drawer. That'd be the best way to go but just maybe not for our wallets

Pants are for chumps! So are $150 Neca 4-packs with no alt heads. I'm not judging, though...I bought the Pizza Club turtles instead of the much sweeter deal that was the Turtles in Disguise set because, well...I'm a chump, I guess. Honestly, these look great I didn't have many of the TMNT Archie comics as a kid but I did have that first Stump wrestling issue and I thought symbiote Raph was sick. I hope they release these as ultimates so I can pick up Raph. Update: I caved and bought these. My chumpness is even further confirmed. They're amazing though. Might be my favorite set of turtles...until they come up with the regular Archie turtles. It never ends.

I grew up with the Archie comics, specifically this story arc.. that being said, I'm planning to pass on this as I've just been overwhelmed with Turtles purchases lately. If they ever break these up, I will definitely buy that Raphael.

Neca still with their wonky distribution system. If release date is August 7th, then the stores should have them on the 7th. Don't ship them on the 7th. They should be stocked the night of 6th, so morning of the 7th the stuff is on the shelves. My stores had the haulathon stuff, so why not this....? JFC

@@dwitefry4157 I guess my interpretation of Tales 4 is that it's a watercolor equivalent to making a whole crowd blue or purple in an old comic.
Regardless, I think people may end up wanting two Rat Kings when they realize this figure doubles as Archie. (And the character is minor/sporadic enough in Archie, appearing in something like 2-3 issues and a profile page, that this might be all we get.)

I'd imagine we'll end up getting four Rat Kings related to this new figure if Neca can sell 'em - IDW colours Rat King, Mirage colours Rat King, Archie Rat King and posssibly Tournament Fighters Rat King but yeah I wouldn't be surprised if we see people buying multiples.
Also I will say that he does die in Tales 4, so his transition to otherwordly thing in City at War isn't completely bonkers.

The lack of alternative heads is a real bummer, but these still look incredible and are representations of the figures I never thought we would get so I'm gonna have to grab a set.
Regarding the lack of accessories, I think they used this set to justify the new tooling and molds for Archie Turtles and that the inevitable four pack of them in more standard outfits will have all of the accessories we have come to expect from the multipack turtles.
While I'm happy the cross sell confirms an El Mysterio figure is in the works, I'm still busy waiting and wanting them to do a Ninjara figure and perhaps most importantly an April as the fifth turtle from TMNT Adventures Special #11
I've got 7 or 8 boxed sets. They used to cost $120 now they're $150. However each set comes with less accs than the previous one. I like this wrestling set but don't feel it's worth it. Great review as usual.

Honestly, these look great I didn't have many of the TMNT Archie comics as a kid but I did have that first Stump wrestling issue and I thought symbiote Raph was sick. I hope they release these as ultimates so I can pick up Raph.
Update: I caved and bought these. My chumpness is even further confirmed. They're amazing though. Might be my favorite set of turtles...until they come up with the regular Archie turtles. It never ends.

Hatter, mate, if you get a ring, seriously consider the Mattel Creations Retro ring. The stuff you’ll find at retain often have a sprung ring mat and are kinda useless for display as the surface is unstable.
