Awesome video! Thanks for sharing this. I worked there and the mention that you do at 13:44 about cutting elsewhere; it was the workers wages. I was brought from Spain to work there and the second day we arrived they gathered all the workers from motiongate to tell us that our salaries were going to be cut. In my case the cut was not very heavy, because I was new and I was not getting paid that much anyway. However, when it came to management so many of our higher ups had to resign because their cuts were up to 50%, and they just couldn't live with that salary. You could cut the tension with a knife.
Like our show director, she abandoned the park and left us without much training that had to be done by other performers that knew the shows. After lost of people in charge left it was a pretty ugly downfall, people without any qualifications were offered jobs that they were not suited for, which resulted in more things going wrong and so on... I'm not sure what's going on right now, but they seem to have lost sight of reality building the new coasters and areas. This resort is literally a ticking bomb! 😅

The theming in that world and the hunger games area was far better than the rest of the parks. To say Lego land is small would be generous though.

Their prices have been fairly lesser than the insane prices of Disney and Universal. As a UAE resident, we were offered so many perks including BOGO. But the problem in the end is the theme park culture. Most of the residents are from the Asian subcontinent, we never were really amazed or been fans of theme parks. We have never grown up with the hype like how Americans are for Disneyland/ Universal. Secondly, UAE has scorching bad weather for straight 6 months, so most people prefer AC and indoor areas.

I had the opportunity to finally visit the Motiongate park last week despite it being only a 5 hour drive away from where I live and I have to say it was for the most part a disappointment with the exception of the indoor Dream Works section which is the only area we actually enjoyed and felt the theming was superb, the 'How to Train Your Dragon' Dragon Gliders ride was absolutely superb. The rest of the park which sits outdoors was pretty harsh to navigate in the desert heat and the rides looked like they could use major refurbishments and featured I.P's no one really cares for or rides that were a complete borefest.

A big problem is an over reliance on tourism, in places like Hawaii tourism thrives due to most people wanting a relaxing experience that can be enjoyed multiple times, whereas in Dubai which is often more of a sightseeing destination, and once you’ve seen and done everything there’s little reason to come back that you can’t do anywhere elsewhere, so Dubai is forced to keep building things to attract new tourists. Thats likely one of the reasons why expo 2020 is probably going to go ahead this year in spite of the pandemic, because after a year of limited travel and reduced tourism they really can’t afford for it not to.

Dubai has ablot of tourists. It is a very nice place:)
There are avlot of market for good theme parks. Especially in the middle east region (it is not saturated like some places in the west).
The problem earlier was not that there lacked customers... the problem was that these was Extremly big investments! And the investment groups from abroad got into financial troubles due tobthe 2008 financial crisis.
Things have however started to get built one by one in the meantime.... but not the gigantic international themepark operator.
      So market is definitly there:)
But now have to first get rid of the coronavirus;)
Dubai now have many parks: Dubailand (with a dozen of different thene parks etc, and more expected to come), and also Dubai Parks and Resorts which also have a few theme parks.
In addition there are many entertainment parks here and there in Dubai. And several big water parks. Etc.

And the big metro project that was supposed to connect more of the Dubai..... got cancelledcaftervthe 2008 financial crash in the world.
So the metro line is just 1 very long straight line. The metro is of good quality... but it does not go to any of the theme parks.
So then you are dependentb on cars.
Tourists does not have cars usually.
But at least the taxi rides here are sort of cheap.
Other problem is that they are sadly not good at marketing.
      Scratch that.
      They are horrible at marketing.
So unless you arrive at a hotel which accidently have broucheurs about a specific attraction,., you will either never know of them or you have to do your own research.

    Excellent Vlog
Just came back from Dubai in May 2023.
I have been to Florida 14 times since 1995. Love Universal not so much Disney anymore.
Went to Dubai Motiongate and yes they are adding new rollercoasters but it is still like they are not bothered anymore.
Riverland is there version of City walks at Florida Universal or Disney springs but looks like a false front to everything ie nothing open the restaurants and shops in this area all closed and this is the opening to the parks ie Bollywood, Legoland and Motiongate but you are not aloud to walk through it you have to use a tram to drive through to get to Motiongate entrance.
As for Motiongate all well kept but empty as you said.
All but one of the 4D rides they said you don’t need 3D glasses but there is a sign “ pick 3D glasses here”but the screens are blurred and you can see they are 3D but they are not handing out the glasses.
The one ride that did hand out the glasses kung fu panda the glasses did not work and we rode it 3 times also other guests complained.
All there Dark rides are stationary none of the animatronic characters move or if they do it’s very limited and this is the way it is built so weird.
The indoor section Dreamworks not as good as it looks most of the rides inside here have screens like the Harry Potter rides at universal Florida even the indoor rollercoasters you stop look at a screen and move to next section but most of them don’t work ie you can hear the voices but screens blank.
The only good thing in motiongate is the outside rollercoasters but getting to them is the problem it is bloody roasting outside the heat is bearable at best if your from the UK like me.
As for Bollywood it was Closed and was told might be for good as they are looking to change it to a football themed park ie Real Madrid sorry yes Madrid is massive if not the biggest Club in the world but if your not a Real Madrid fan why visit here its like opening a Manchester Utd theme park and me a Liverpool fan visiting, it’s not going to Happen. have they not learnt anything, keep this up if they don’t want guests.
We are booking for next year but will be keeping away from from the theme parks.
    Keep up the good 👍👍👍👍

@@ottot3221 I agree. I've been to Disneyland Paris, Hong Kong Disneyland, Tokyo Disney Resort, and Disney World. Out of those parks, Disneyland Paris came in as the biggest disappointment of them all. Hong Kong Disneyland was pretty bad too, but at least it was cheaper and the overall design was prettier.
It's a shame that Disney decided to squeeze the lemon by increasing admission fees and overcrowding their parks, altogether it really takes the fun out of visiting a theme park when you have to plan your visit 2 months ahead if you want a chance to go on a specific ride without having to wait in the standby line for 2-3 hours.
As a fellow European, I've started to treasure the beauty of our nature way more than any artificial attraction. And to me, Dubai is basically one big artificial attraction. Completely soulless.

What i didnt get is their mindset on who’ll visit these theme parks with those original high prices. (and tbh why build these massive name brand, expensive theme parks in the first place)
Because Americans already have plenty in their country, Europeans have Disney Paris & local theme parks, Asians have Universal Singapore & Tokyo, Tokyo & HK & Shanghai Disneyland, Tokyo DisneySea & etc.
so why would anyone go there when there are nearer options with similar/better quality for similar/better prices?

    • @supertouring1
      @supertouring1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I don't think park admissoin pricing was the issue as it was about the same for similar parks around the world. I guess they assumed people would be attracted by all the licensed franchises. Though they are licensed, smurfs/shred/john wick aren't big franchises like Marvel/Disney/etc.. But would be people be wiling to fly half way across the world for a Smurfs or How to Train your dragon dark ride? I think Dubai's best gamble would have been to build a star trek land as that's a big franchise with a loyal/active following. I think people were also scared off Dubai's reputation as being an expensive city and their culture being so different. I do kinda applaud the Dubai gov't for trying to move away from oil to tourism.

It is the first time I ever attended a “ musical” performance to see a full cast is lip synching. I mean None of their performer can sing. It is so fake and the professional morality is so low. Maybe it is a cultural thing? That local audience is willing to pay to see a 120 mins lip synching “ musical”? The leading cast members are doing pantomime to a pre recorded track! For 120 minutes and they call this is MUSICAL. No, this is garbage by any standard.

The taxi driver missed the entrance for twice, and have to circle around the high ways for the park is so bizarrely located. the signage and location indication is also a nightmare. The attitude of stuff is even worse. Don’t trust these local real estate developers. They have no idea of family entertainment and they don’t give a shit about costumer experience. The park does not have a heart. It looks like a collection of movie posters and cheap cut out movie figures. Nothing entertaining. simply one of the worst. You'd think with the kind of capital floated in their economy it would be the epitome of endless funding. Apparently that kind of funding is just a safety net for the kind of planning and projections that went on here. You didn't mention too much about the locals but I would imagine most theme parks are carried by repeat business from area residents as opposed to heavy tourism. I had to wonder how much ( or how little ) tourism Dubai gets from a clientele that would attend theme parks and how that factored in. Is this even a viable area?

I hate to sound like an ignorant American, but I want to say the two biggest obvious things that irked to me about both Dubai land and Dubai parks, as well as the other sort of mega projects that are currently being built in the Middle East. Actually interesting to contrast this with Disney Shanghai and Universal Beijing because at least China has grown, it's a middle class enough as well as has really good metrics on its own media that companies going in know exactly what the Chinese audience wants. The confusing things about all these projects is that keep asking who are these four? Because no one in middle class in their country are going to enjoy these cuz it doesn't exist. And two what properties do people in the middle east even like? Especially when I see the type of IPs being used. It seems like they're just either big IPs or IPs that they could just get instead of okay. Like this is super popular in the middle east. Let's make it this. The only one that kind of makes sense is Legoland just because of how universal Legos are everything else like there needs to be an actual constantly consuming middle class in these countries with various market data to show what actually works. And considering that a lot of countries like Saudi Arabia and Iran which bans so many different things this becomes an issue.

They have built this park in the place which is not easily accessible through public transportation and also the entrance fee is expensive.

The thing I don't understand is that why these middle east people always try to compete with US? Come on Dubai, disneyland has their own history and present. The park they have is not only theme park, it is connected with people memories and feelings. LEGOLAND , BOLLYWOOD park , gosh. Totally waste of money and dubai local can't afford these types of park. So please be realistic and stop wasting money.

Do you mean "they let their mouths write a cheque that their asses couldn't cash"? Making grandiose plans and then building watered-down attractions that don't draw in visitors, partly because they wanted it to get it all done yesterday and go from 0 to 10,000 kph in three seconds, when a slower rate of growth would allow visitors to get acclimated to the setup.

Everybody wants to be Disney but they just can’t cut it I wonder why do you think maybe the Disney corporation undercuts a lot of these other competitors in other countries because there are some amusement parks in other parts of the world that look like they would be so much better than the Disney experience I mean if you’ve ever gone to Disney World there aren’t very many rides for adults to be honest there’s one or two the rest is all kid oriented or virtual so nothing really that great pretty sad but I think the Disney corporation undercuts a lot of these other amusement parks around the world sorry this happened to Dubai it looks like it’s fun and may be affordable haven’t finished washing the whole video hope these parks are still open because I go to Dubai and visit the park if it is affordable but if it has a crazy price tag I’ll stick with Disney.

The thing that urks me so much about Motiongate's rollercoasters are it's ties to it's brand. Like, the kiddie coasters make a lot of sense, but all the others just make me scratch my head so much. Like, WHY THE FUCK IS AN S&S FREESPIN COASTER THEMED TO JOHN WICK?!?! IT LITERALLY HAS NO TIES TO THE FRANCHISE AT ALL!
This theme park is just a Universal Studios knock-off containing rollercoasters with Six Flags-level theming.
