As an Australian I can honestly say the situation is much much worse! The middle class is the new poor. Your pay only gets your bill's and rent paid. You either have to be a millionaire to survive in Sydney, or be lucky enough to have a property owned outright that was handed down to you. Most people in there 30's in Sydney share a rental property with 3 or 4 people, the rest would still live with there parents because you can't survive from the cost of living. Melbourne is almost as bad. Our governments ruined this country for under the table deals and now we are picking up the pieces.

The only reason Australia on paper is performing well is because its being supported by chinese investment. The average Australian is suffering greatly due to this foreign investment. Cost of living sky high. The NSW government is only in a good financial state because almost every asset has been sold. Its like renting your house out just so you can boast about the income you make every week while having nowhere to live. It will all come crashing down eventually :(

But the Chinese investment increase the revenue of Australian government, and thats the reason Australia can afford the high welfare spend and maintain a very high minimum salary (its double compare to USA). No many countries can afford Australian's welfare standard. Australian dont even need to pay money for seeing a GP. Greece, Brazil all collapse.

I don't know how you get to that conclusion. Actually fix assets are the best assets to sell. Its becomes capital injection to the country and no physical assets is leaving Australia. When Australia sell wool, iron ore and coal those resources really leave Australia. The houses Chinese buy never leave Australia. The Aussies can build many more houses with the money they got from Chinese buyers.

Hi,im chinese,I can provide you some information. At the national level, most of China's state-owned enterprises have branches in Africa, especially those involved in infrastructural projects. We provide loans, all the raw materials and workers are basically from China. The longest railroad in Africa is built by the Chinese Company. At the private enterprise part, businessmen and the rich in Fujian Province in China started to set foot in the African trade market several decades ago. some powerful cellphone manufacturers and TV manufacturers have business in africa. These companies only research and develop mobile phones that are sold in Africa, In the fast-growing smartphone market in Africa, leading companies are not Apple Inc. or Samsung Electronics, but the not-so-famous Chinese company SHENZHEN TRANSSION HOLDINGS LIMITED. The company has won the favor of consumers for cell phone features introduced in the local market.such as Africans who like louder music ,water and drop resistance.

Well from a Indigenous perspective I suppose at least China is buying Australia .
Not stealing Australia like the English did back in 1778.
At the end of the day the world is changing from a contemporary perspective .
Goods move , people move, and cultures wether we like it or not eventually change.
The world through globalisation is becoming smaller and smaller.
Xenophobia causes fear and fear leads to division.
What is the issue , as long as people respect each other , and the country they walk on.
It is amazing how people respond and forget the history of people movements.

When I was in Canada I used to live in an area where there were no less than 15 maternity hostels where you'd see pregnant Chinese women walking around. Apparently women travel from China to the west to have babies so they get the western passport and can use the social benefits of those countries. This a ticking time bomb and going to cause major population friction in the coming years.

Also, they are culturally destroying Australia by setting up their chow food shops everywhere. They must be banned immediately. Chinese Australians are Australians only and they are not the problem. Problem is overseas investments funded by very cheap interest rate loans by the People's Bank of China, which is being given to the Chinese Nationals. This needs to be regulated and higher tax must be introduced by the Australian government.

I like your channel and enjoying learning new things with you. You raised a very good question but the answer (this video) sounds like a middle school project. Information maybe correct but the answer is not complete and very general.
I was expecting to hear the answers on the following questions:
    - how much Chinese invested in Australian assets during the last 10-20 years,
    - breakdown of investments by industry,
    - top 10-20 largest investments with names of Chinese and Australian companies,
    - why Chinese invest in Australian,
= what Australian government did and did not do to make it happen?
    - What is the share of Chinese investments in Australia compare with other country investors?
    - what are the problems and issues with these investments?
    Etc..
I hope you will be consider this in your next videos and maybe even do part 2 for this video.
    Thank you

I find it wierd that people are fixated on the chinese buying properties. But not when they are buying alarmingly steep amounts of public stocks from american and australian companies like apple, telstra, walmart, amazon, google, etc.
Those american companies are not owned by the government, or it's own people but increasingly by foriegn nationals who are also their shareholders. But with property, I guess it's just more visible compared to purchasing shares.
When the american stock market goes up, it's the unnoticed masses of chinese shareholders that get rich and happy.

    • @nswpublicservant

There is a cap on foreign ownership in Australia for China. Funny it's okay for the English and American companies to dig up all our gold and export it. We do have double standards when it comes to who can exploit us.
It's what happens when you have the worlds most corrupt politicians. Australian politicians hide behind legislation they create, the cowards. Unlike third world countries where they are corrupt to your face.

In Melbourne my local Milk Bar is a Pty Ltd Company. The people who appear to own the Milk Bar have no idea how to run a Milk Bar: the shop has no stock snd what few goods are on the shelves are not what customers typically purchase. I wonder if the family who appear to own the Milk Bar are employees of the Pty Ltd Company and, if so, how many more family Milk Bars have been taken over. The corner Milk Bar gave many newcomers to Australia their start in the country and their children went on to become the doctors, lawyers and even politicians.

Australian consumers have not cared for there farmers for way to long(I m not talking about the current drought) My childhood was the 80's/90's. Australian consumer did'nt care about "quality" produce just the cheapest. we sent goods to market.
Spend all day picking and packing and send goods off to the market. Dad will get the check for produce and money would'nt even cover the cost of the boxes used to put the goods In.
We use to be a suburb of Small Farmers (20 or so Farmers).
Now there is only 2 Left. We are Surrounded by new construction Homes (70% home owners are Chinese)
Now our best customers are Chinese. They like Quality Produce. We still get that "Straya" Consumer who argues about produce been on special for 99 cents at Aldi compared to our standard of produce.
You reep what you sow Australia, if spent a little bit of money on your grocery instead at the Pub or Casino's Australian Farmers would'nt have to sell to China.
I don't care for the current Baby Formula Saga. Australian Consumer's have had there way for way to long. its good seen a Producer finally doing well.

Question: Is China buying Australia? Answer: The Australian government and industry sold out when liberals were elected. Welcome to Chinstralia. Are the poor disenfranchised struggling? Politicians don't care, buyers and investors don't care. Crown Casino in Melbourne has become a brothel, so many Asian women go their to connect with the next male gambling. Does the gambler care? Nobody cares right? Sydney and Melbourne have become cities of socially divided people, bereft of a quality life. Working class suburbs have become slums, while the middle and upper classes are laughing at us in contempt with champagne in hand.

I know this video is talking about Australia, but people from Southeast Asia are also sharing their experiments here. Someone say that all SEA countries, include Vietnam have a very rich Chinese community compared to the locals.
No, it’s not happening in Vietnam. South Vietnam before 1975 had this. But Northern Vietnameses, who are more similar to Chinese in lifestyle reunited the country and erased the wealth Vietnamese Chineses living in Saigon at that time, then slowly replaced them to become the new wealthy people. But it’s safer for Vietnam to not having any rely on Chinese community, unlike other Southeast Asian nations. Some Southern Vietnamese hate Northerners by a same reason as they hated Chinese in the past.
