      Thank you. I am not sure why a video gets dislikes. My video on the IH 1460 got a similar comment about the few dislikes. It may be as simple as the green viewers were thumbs down on the red combine story and now the red fans are thumbs down on the green. I like all the brands and seek them out to share. At least two people just plain don’t like BTP as each video gets two dislikes almost as soon as a video posts. They never comment but those two thumbs down appear before there is even time to watch the video through.

      They probably have a hole in the back facing side of that elevator. Those are frequent in older equipment like this because it's thin metal that wears through and there is no easy way to repair it since there's only about 6 or 8 inches space between the tube and the belt drives. I've seen them patched with silicone, epoxy, and plain old duct tape. It's just how these old combines are.

    • @thedonleroy
      @thedonleroy 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it is losing quite a bit the way it looks. I hope they caught it. We always have any other guys in the field check the combine as it goes by them just to try & catch a problem like this.

    Gravity wagons and cab-less tractor. Brings back memories of my youth. That is way my family did it for years. Today it's grain carts and air conditioned cabs unloading onto 10 wheelers or semis. Times sure have changed. Young farmers today don't know what they missed... Whereabouts in Southeast Ill. was this at.

    • @RJ1999x
      @RJ1999x 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@bigtractorpower the farmer that told you it had 15000 hrs on is full of it. The 00/20 series self destructed from vibration around 5000 hrs, and Titan 2 self destructed even faster. The 6620 lasted the longest followed by the 77 and 88 fell apart even quicker, they were basically a widened out 6620. I owned the whole line including a 4420. Had a 6620 a 7720 a 7720 Titan 2 and an 8820 Titan 2 at around 2000hrs they start to nickel and dime you. The highest we ran was 4000 hrs but by then the cost to operate was getting to be roughly $15000 a year, and do custom work you couldn't afford the down time

      Your full of it. I can look out my window and see a 8820 titan II that has well over 5000 hours and still going strong. Maybe you mistreated your equipment and they fell apart because of that? Our 8820 has duals and tip top bin extensions not to mention a yield monitor that maps with gps.

    My first harvest in Canada in 1996 was in a green top 8820 T2 1986 i think. In 97 we did hemp and we bought an anniversary 9600 and i tell ya, the old 8820 walked past the 9600 (both run 30ft HoneyBee) and ran longer after sunset too. But you never wanted to replace the big primary shaft thats behind the cab and runs from one side of the machine to the other (gotta be over 400lbs)

    My Dad had a Turbo 7720, and a 2nd John Deere combine from the late 70s before they changed body styles. Finally retired the old one a few years ago after it wouldn't start, and they couldn't diagnose the problem.

  • @bubbawubba2307

    strawwalkers were different on those combines. We bought an 8820 titan II and it had the rice straw walkers in it. Had to buy more straw walkers and replace em. Spent a lot of hours in those 20 series combines. from the 66-88 models. the 8820 II would run circles around the 6620. Also big difference in the rear end of the 2 wheel drive 6620 and the mudhog. We replaced the rearend in one 66 several times until we upgraded to a mudhog. we also ran a 20' head on the 66 and a 6 row corn head. on the 88's they need a 30' foot head and depending on yield 8 row or 12 row head.

      @bigtractorpower  5 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Oh you would not believe what I encounter. More often than not on brand new and classics I am standing around waiting on repairs. I often feel like I am bad luck when I show up. The reason this combine got filmed was I drove 4 hours to this town to film another combine. Five minutes from the field the farmer calls me saying hey bad news the combine just broke a belt. I have to run an hour and half to the dealer. We are done until tomorrow. As I took that call I spotted the this 7720 and thought well I mine as well see if they will let me film. From this farmer I met another and another and another in the area and got 4 more combines slimed and then the one I came to see the next day. Maybe I should put this story in a video.

      I agree. I remember a farm on the road I grew up on went from a 7700 to a new 7720. I thought wow because the 7700 was huge at the time. Here was this modem cab and black reel in the grain table instead of the yellow one on the 7700. The farm bough the 7720 in 1979 and kept it all the way through 2003. It was built to last.

      All nice combines. It seems many people I knew that ran 7720s either made the jump to a 9500 in the 90s or waited and made a bigger jump to a 9660STS in the 2000’s. Three farm’s I know in different states all went to 9660STS combines. You have a nice line up. The 9770STS is one of my all time favorite combines.

    Bought a new 6620 hydro turbo corn soybean combine in November 1981 when my 6600 burned up. Guess I got a good deal because I remember paying just shy of 60 K for it. Should have gotten a 7720 at that time. Did buy a 7720 later. 7720 was a lot more combine. Good video!

      Very cool history. I thought I had made a history on the 6620 Turbo but it looks like have not posted that video so I will produce that soon. According to my price book the 6620’s list price was $67,000 to $72,000’depending on how it was equipped.

    Reply to Brad not Landa
    Man, you watch the dust and you realize my 1970s idea was brilliant. HEPA filters for all the cab air. The reason here is obvious, but I wanted it even for cars that go past, or drive through dust storms, or worse - going through Ag spraying.

    Why do the reverse the back wheels when its 2wd? Save wear? Thanks fantastic work as per usual.

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is to point the tread for grip in a wet spot. With a 4wd model the rear wheel assist will pull with the front tires to pull through. With a 2wd the combine will have to back out so have the tread turned gives the combine extra tread and grip going back wards.

      All very nice combines. My neighbor growing up had similar up grades. When I was a kid he had a 95EB, then a 6600 then a 6620 Titan II, then a 9500, then a 9570 STS and since 2012 an S660. It always interested me every combine he has had was a 95 or a 66. It will be interesting to see what follows the S660.
      How do you think you think your 9870STS preforms compared to the S660? Does the 9870 harvest more with its extra power or does the S660 do better with its upgrades?
