i loved this scene because it’s not just “good guy and bad guy” you can 100% see both sides of each person
Genshin is good at crafting complex characters I feel, the fandom just has difficulty understanding nuance or context.
I agree, I just felt bad that it had to go down that way.
I completely agreed with Wriothesley's actions tbh. Liney, on the other hand, tried to infiltrate a supermax prison (in a nation of Justice, no less) and even had the audacity to act all high and mighty when he was caught red-handed. "Well well well, if it isn't the consequence of my own action."

It probably would've been a cutscene had Sigewinne not tranquilized Liney. Then, we'd see Liney getting supplexed by the Duke.

Although I feel bad for Lyney and Lynnette, they kinda deserved it. I feel more sympathy towards Freminet. His siblings only got tranquilized, while he almost died in the sea.
In fact, Arlecchino is the one to blame here by sending three children to "prison", knowing what happened to the previous fatui agents.
I agree, and I feel like Wriothesley is trying to give them a wake up call by being like "Since you respect your Father so much then I don't see any reason she wouldn't come down here to talk to me to save you guys if she truly cares about you" but Lyney, Lynnette, and freminent are basically singing her praises even though she's most likely manipulating them and doesn't care. I really loved Wriothesley in this scene and how he was able to call out all of their bs. I understand why people could be frustrated with him but honestly wtf did they expect to happen to fatui not minding their damn business. Wriothesley could've folded Lyney like a beach chair but gave him the grace not to fuck him up and let sigewinne tranquilize him 😂😂
Honestly yeah, it's hard not to take wriothesleys side; all he knows is these 3 are entirely faithful to the knave, and in extension to the fatui. He has no reason to trust them. While he sympathizes with them more bc they're kids (and he doesn't just get rid of them like he does other fatui spies), he still isn't going to go easy on em. Maybe that's why I liked him more. He's consise, blunt, but not cruel

Arlecchino isn't to blame. She laments that Lyney still hasn't learned to ask for help, as he's rushing too fast to be worthy to replace her.

I find it so funny how people are like « Wriothesley is so cruel to play with Lyney's trauma like that it's disgusting » considering that
1) Lyney, Lynette and Freminet, as far as Wriothesley knows, are Fatui spies intruding on his territory and trying to figure out Meropide's secrets for unknown reasons (and since they're Fatui, as far as Wriothesley is concerned, these reasons are probably evil) and
2) how the fuck would Wriothesley know about Lyney's trauma? It's not like his plan was « use the guy's trauma to make him act how I want him to » it was « use his siblings as bait to make him act like I want him to » all the while keeping said siblings safe. People are acting as if someone who hurts someone else HAS to be entirely evil. No. Hell, this is just what happens when you join a criminal organisation. People do stuff to you that may remind you of your trauma. Tough luck. It's not like Lyney, Lynette and Freminet are unhappy with their role as Fatui, either. They're very much loyal to the bone. Y'all can't handle morally grey characters. This is barely even morally grey

So often when good guys have to do something morally grey they're serious and somber cause they don't like doing that. But he was just like « oh? I need to manipulate this kid into thinking I'll harm his siblings? Alright, let's practice the villain act » 10/10 idea, funniest character in the game

@@antihmota4625 Bro doesn't stand a chance. Wriothesley has been trained since he was a child. Who literally grew up in the pankration ring and has been fighting ever since. Furthermore he needs to keep the meropide in check which is full of criminals ready to fight. What would Lyney even do here? Sigewinne herself even says that she did him a huge favour by knocking him out before the Duke would do something worse.
This scene had me on the edge of my seat the entire time I swear😭😭 poor Lyney having a fucking ptsd flashback and panicking because he feared something horrible happening to Lynette like it did in their past and Freminet possibly drowning outside 😭
Y'all ain't looking out for my boy Freminet enough, he almost died out there and if it wasn't for Clorinde he would've been dead.
It's an amazing scene. You can see it from both sides. Wriothesly of course had the right to protect his forstress, tho I think he didn't need to bluff that much especially after seeing the state Lyney is in.
On the other hand we also know the trauma Lyney has and can understand why he would act so distressed and agressive in such situation.
I don't think it was unnecessary from Wriothesley. We've seen that Wriothesley is about reform but also taking accountability and self reflection. The only people at blame were Lyney and Arlecchino- Arlecchino is the one always putting the siblings in danger while they sing her praises. They needed a dose of reality about what potential consequences can be and Wrio did it the best way possible. Lyney reacted the way he did in part because everything he was speculating were things the Fatui would do.
@@GLoLChibs That wasn't speculation tho, Wriothesly did kidnapp Lynette and he's the one who said he trapped Freminet in the sea (Lyney thought he just kidnapped both). It's true they were asking for it, but that's not really their thought. They were brainwashed by the Knave, so they didn't really have options when she sent them there.
@kateb1127 He didn't kidnap Lynette- she was in the infirmary to snoop and got caught and taken in. Wriothesley also explained he closed the pipes so no one (Lyney or Lynette) would be stupid enough to chase him and sent Chlorinde instead. They infiltrated Wrio's fortress, and Lyney chose loyalty to Arlecchino over his siblings.

Everyone who's angry at wrio forget they are in a prison, they are lucky wrio didnt send them to isolation room...
While I feel Wrio could’ve handled that a bit better, I kind of understand his situation here given that he’s a prison guard and whatnot. If anything the fatui trio’s “father” is pretty much to blame for sending her children to a mission like this.
He’s not just a guard, he’s the warden of the prison.

As much as i fricking despise Wriothesely for this, gotta admit.. he did the logically right thing. He warned Arlecchino to stop sending Fatui members to invade his Fortress, Arlecchino didn't listen and was fine sending 3 of her literal kids down there, fully aware of the danger she put them in danger. (Arlecchino isn't dumb, she obviously knew the danger) Wriothesely has the right to want to protect his Fortress, and after countless of warnings, his actions were very logically and dare i say necessary. The 3 siblings were just the unlucky ones to be placed in this situation.

I also didnt like how wriothesley was acting during the scene at first since lyney is in my top 3 favs, but you got to see he was literally just trying to protect his fortress, hating him for doing his job is a little too much. especially when it was explained later what really happened to freminet and lynette. the dude did nothing wrong.

We know that they're up to no good in every region we visited so far, and now, just because they're the first person we talked to when we came into fontaine, we should just believe them when they say 'I know I'm doing suspicious thing, but we really have good intention, trustmebro'?
The fatui has been sending their agent to Meropide, they get eliminated, and what does the fatui do next? sending their orphaned children agent next.
Seriously, I'm going to reiterate this point again:
They know their former agents has been ELIMINATED and as their next move, they're sending their orphan kids agents.
What are their expecting? for the other party to gives in because their opponent is children? It's despicable. They don't care sending children to die (like y'know, their PREVIOUS agents) and if the opponents dare to hurt these poor, poor, orphan agents children (whom they send to die), the opponent is the monster.
Also, You are fatui's agent here, Lyney. The three of you are. There's always risk of getting caught and eliminated during mission. If you agree bringing Lynette and Freminette here, then it's on you (and the fatui who sending them whilst knowing their previous is blahblahblah you get the point by now).
I kinda feel bad for Wriothesley to be honest, fatui keep sending their agents, and when he get rid of them, they're playing dirty by sending orphan children next, who somehow had FOOLED the worldwide famous traveller to vouch for them despite 1). not having idea what they're up to either; and 2). had bad blood with fatui in their previous encounters. Like, seriously, traveller?
Oh, now that I think it again, I do feel suspicious that someone with hard life like Lyney acting spoiled in this scene. This might be a scheme from him to pull traveller to his side and spoon-fed them precious info. You see, he can't possibly get his precious boss down here for negotiation and his fellow agent already caught. Wriothesley definitely will not gives free info just because cute and poor orphan children (agents) went and ask him please and thankyouverymuch. But Wrio probably tell traveller, and it's only kind and nice for the traveller to share the precious info with poor and cute orphan children fatui agents because they're swore they're good

This is the fatui we're talking about. Y'know, the people who keep causing shit to happen in every damn region? I can't believe the audacity Paimon had to say that Wriothesley should explain himself. Like, dude, no he doesn't? Lyney was snooping around places he shouldn't have, and the traveller helps him instead of sticking to the goal of "find out what happened to Childe". And then we act like Wriothesley did something wrong?
I think you kinda misunderstood that. The traveler did not know that Lyney and his siblings were fatui. Also, when they discovered that lyney completely exposed their plans to him. The knave has good intentions, she wanted to save fontaine after noticing the raise in water levels and all that. Lyney may be an orphan, but he isn’t a nobody. Lyney’s team are a professional team, which is why the knave entrusted them to investigate the whole situation. The knave knew that this tower has some secrets, which is why she kept sending fatui members to investigate, regardless.

I meant, let's say - if Furina gives the gnosis to Arlecchino NOW, what is Arle's plan to save Fontaine? holding the gnosis in her hands and pray for 1 minutes for the primordial water to recede before shrugging off and goes 'oh well, that didn't work out, I'll give this to Tsaritsa now'?
The fatui and house of hearth is spy organization, so I guess they have much information and plans - which they never share with traveller, despite Lyney assuring us they're our ally. Considering Arle is harshly scolding Furina for not having concrete plans, what is exactly hers, I wonder? as well as WHY she can't share it with us? I meant, if she's really sincere about saving fontaine, she can try formal cooperation with the hydro archon. Like, 'hey since you useless and doesn't have any plans, try mine. If it works, the fatui and the hydro archon can save fontaine together, you can pay with your gnosis then'
They way I see it, fatui is once again treating us as errand boy to get critical information to get the gnosis while probably also want to get us to distrust the fontaine's authorities (like Childe does in liyue AQ).
Lyney's is a professional agent, that's why I suspect he's faking his distress when confronting wriostheley. He knows the other agents missing after sent to Meropide, yet STILL enter anyway with his precious lil sis and freminet.
Lyney already experienced the harsh realities of adults preying on helpless orphans and now he's on spy mission where agents expected to be killed/tortured/worse in their mission. If the traveller wasn't there, Lynette and Freminet will be hostage in Meropide, nothing unusual for professional secret agents,.
However, due to Lyney making a fuss in front of traveller, the three poor, poor orphan lil kiddos have a heartwarming reunion instead and being fed crucial info by the very compassionate (and stupid) traveller and Paimon. This pissed me off.
I was more appalled when I saw that Lyney decided to prance around a max security prison in fishnet stockings.

Never forget that wrio isnt meant to be a full good character, he is a prison warden, and got at the forteress for murder. His actual intention are justified, he want to talk to Arlecchino for the subject of the prophecy. Now lets not forget that Lyney, lynette and freminet arent as good as they seem to be, they are fatui, who knows how many people they killed, how many live they inderectly ruined, remember the guy from the aranara quest that was the one who manipulated the children into dangerous situation so they could catch aranara ? He was from the house of the hearth. If anything, Wrio is the cleanest in the room by protecting the forteress from the fatui

Well, Wrio didnt really need to go that far in this scene, but hes not a nice guy, hes running a prison after all. Knowing Lyney's trauma you can see how panicked he is, I feel so bad for him. Well, at least Wrio didnt hurt Lynette in any way and was kinda nice to her, even though she was caught snooping around.
Yeah... I didn't agree with Wrio's side in this scene the first time I saw it, but then I realized that this might be part of the reason why Siegewinne is there - to balance him out a little. She even mentions how he's being too cold (even after shooting Lyney with a tranq gun and all).

this shows two side of them, for lyney, as much as he's a fatui, his family comes first, bro get the trauma back then and he self hipnotizing that everything is okay, but we have to know that even tho he loves his fam, he also felt gratitude to the fatui for saving their lifes, so yeah he can't choose if he wants to betray his fam or fatui. then again for wrio, he is the core of the fortress, it's his responsibility for protecting it since he also fond of his inmates and the place, he knew the importance of protecting the place whether he really likes it or not at first, thus the fatuis came intruded his domain is really disturb him, but on the other hand, he's not as shrewd as what neuvi tell us at first, for his loving the job he needs to be tough, he even knew the sympathy, that's why neuvi on the other hand trusted him with the task, he know how to act tough, and the way neuvi told us is actually asking for us to be careful on the mission, not really to be alert around wrio. this scene actually a sad one, lyney has ptsd coming on him, wrio ofc didn't know the idea and lyney thinks wrio as a shrewd man while heput the tough act to protect his domain, but thankfully, both sigewieene and the traveler can be the middleman, or the misunderstand won't be done :D

If anything I feel like Wriothesley is being too nice here. Imagine you have a place you've guarded and elevated, with its people that you've cared for for years. Then suddenly a criminal organization keeps sending people to infiltrate the place, trying to find out it's secret, by which the secret is the ticking time bomb of the primordial sea. So you intercepted their spies to warn them to stop crossing the goddam line, but then they sent off a bunch of kids instead. I woulda been pissed. Like how can they not see this coming?? The previous spies all went missing before, did they not foresee that possibility??
The only reason why we feel bad for the trio siblings is cuz we're doing missions on their side, if we go through the journey with Wriothesley and having to keep blocking off fatui spies we probably would've done the same to the trio. The only reason why they got mercy is because they're still kids in Wriothesley's eyes.

In this conflict, I'll side with Rizzley. Lyney knows what he signed up to and therefore he must know that he may or may not screw up trying to do things on behalf of Fatui, which is basically treated with suspicion in every nation in Teyvat.

Honestly, as much as I like Lyney, I don’t feel bad for him. Like at all. Idk why but when I got to this part of the story I was kind of annoyed with how he was acting, regardless of what he’s been through. It’s common sense that if they get caught he should’ve expected to have consequences. Which he didn’t really have in the end other than a scare. The whole scene felt pretty idk, empty or so nonchalant to me bc it was obvious they were fine??

Wriothesley had almost no presence in the AQ in my opinion (as a character, I mean). Aside from being a badass in that one scene, I felt like he was utterly forgettable. And while I understand it wasn't doable to have him around all the time cause of his position yadda yadda, I feel like both he and his relationships with other characters were so...underwhelming. How the hell does Neuvillette feel more fleshed out and human than the Duke?
It would've been nice if there was like a mini-crisis of some sort after the Primordial water was taken care of so the Traveler would team up with Wrio to solve it. Instead, they just stayed there until their sentence was over doing literally nothing. How disappointing. In the end, it did seem like the Duke got a bit more open with the Traveler but it felt so unearned and superficial.
Like, here is a gift from me, the Duke, y'all can hang around my prison or whatever. The dude didn't even remember their release date when asked about it while Neuvi knew their release date without being asked about it. And that's kinda what I mean. Wrio feels so...detached. This is ironic since Neuvi is supposed to be the one struggling with human emotions and social interactions, yet it's Wrio who feels so damn stiff as a character. Just my thoughts though.

while i understand completely why wriothesley acted the way he did, and he definitely doesn't know about lyneys trauma, i do think that there were better ways to handle this. especially since it's kind of obvious to see lyney panicking, he was very obviously being retraumatized.
