I am from the Bahamas and it is great to hear you speak - it is just like us - We speak the same way - I have to visit your island sometime - I do hope you can hold on to your culture and be sure to pass it down to the children and impress on them the importance-

I never head or knew anything about Gullah Geechee, I am African American have never heard
anything in school or saw in museums about this culture. I am 59 years old will be 60 this year and just within the last 10 year have I had the opportunity to sit under Queen Quet, introduced to me by Sis Sharon Marion, I am intrigues by the importance of remembering your heritage. I don't speak the language but something on the inside of me makes me understand what they are saying. For some reason I feel connected. I thank Queen Quet for keeping this culture alive, she represent it so well, not giving up her language as it it beautiful to me but stretching her self to be able to adapt in any environment around any people. I support you, I love you and pray much for you in your journey. Stay encouraged no matter the jealousy or haters or lack of understanding of many people. Keep on keeping on.

I love this. My Daddy taught us about the Gullah Geechees when I was very young. I would listen intently and feel such a connection to these people. We took annual trips to the beach as a family, and there was one particular location we would pass by and he would say, " Those are the Gullah people in our lineage." The people would be on their front porches and wave at us as we slowly drove by. I always wanted Dad to stop so I could go into these people's house's and see how they lived. Call it being intrigued.

As someone who grew up in an Indian Residential School as a girl, I am so happy to hear that their are still people who are living from the land as the Creator has intended for it to be lived upon.
Up here in 🇨🇦, the government is still handing over our virgin lands to developer friends whenever the mood for money takes them over. So hang tight to what you've got, 'cause once it's gone, there's no bringing it back.
And thank you for continuing to hold on to these values, and living this lifestyle. You are helping to preserve Turtle Island in its original state. ✌🏽🧓🏽
By the way, the schools (and other atrocities) have been responsible for annihilating my father's Traditional Indigenous language of his people, because we were the ones that met with the new comers first of all. Take good care. 😊🧓🏽✌🏽

Many Gullah Geechee lands are threatened by annual tax sales, the most recent of which was Oct 5, 2020. The community is working hard to raise funds to redeem the land - must be done within 12 months. Many of these areas are underserved with residents in low income professions and unaware of agricultural tax exemptions available. See more here www.islandpacket.com/news/local/article245917760.html. So look for the hope of mass migration away from these shores after August 2019. Blessings

To my Gullah/Geechees… The name Gullah is in the Strong’s Concordance Bible dictionary as a Hebrew name. Look in the Hebrew Language section on page 1353 and you can see for yourselves. Yah’ll (we) are Hebrews. Our names were not mis-pronounced as Angola or Golas although some of our ancestors were from there. The Spanish and English called us Gullah or GuYah (In spanish the LL makes a Y sound) because they knew who we were. Geechees are the Yamasee or Yahmassee (Yah) (Yahweh) who were also Hebrews and were called (Maroons, Guale, Yamacraw, Creek Aborigines) by the Spanish. Cum-by-Yah, Ah-ha-Yah, We-Ben-Yah (We Son of Yah), Hallelu-Yah.
