This situation is different from that of the bundy situation. Bundy was not paying the dues for letting his cattle graze on public land, if you ask me, the BLM should have kept the cattle. In this case, it's a simple dispute.

It is stupid that the conversation diverts to making the militia look like they are misguided. When was the last time that protesting with a sign was productive? I think making a non-violent stand if the issue is indeed "real" is just what needs to be done more often. Whats more is these people are protesting, just with guns in their hands. If the militia is over-reacting or not with all of the hype should be a concern since a militia is supposed to support the constitution and just laws. Long story short you cannot have a conversation that is fair without protecting yourself, and there are plenty of non-violent protests gone wrong to prove it.

I see now that these Oathkeepers are prone to manipulation. If they move to potential violence against the wishes of their host it means they desire confrontation. Any clever person with ill will would be able to use them as an efficient tool for terrible things.

That is a fantasy that presumes a fair system, a large enough majority of people who are on your side, and leadership that is either democratic or leery of the population.
Slavery has come and gone throughout history, as have women's equality, democracy. What if you had decided at the START of the Roman empire that you didn't like being a slave? The empire lasted 600 years. Your peaceful resistance would have earned you a beating. If you tried to run away, they chopped your feet off. What if you were gay in 1900s America or Europe? You were likely to imprisoned or castrated.
Oppression is cyclic, and whilst there have been spectacular examples of when peaceful resistance has worked, there are at least as many cases where revolution was the only solution. Try your peaceful resistance solution in Nazi Germany, or ISIS Iraq, or Boko Haram Nigeria and see what it gets you.
I am all for peaceful resistance as a first effort, but after hundreds of years of peaceful resistance, innocent blacks are still being slaughtered in the streets. When is it time to change tactics?
