    I have been following Bob for years, and have tried to paint, I am getting better. One of the hardest things for me is grass with sap green and cad. Yellow. It always looks like wild flowers not grass.

    • @PaulRansonArt
      @PaulRansonArt  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Don - a common enough effect. But you set out to paint wild flowers and all you get is grass 😂 If I were to hazard a guess it happens when you push into the cad.yellow / sap green mixture and just tip the edge of you brush with the yellow. Instant floweres. If you watch how I mix my paints I use the same side on the brush to pull down and avoid pushing to close to the cad yellow. Give it a try. Its just a matter of practice. But I know you'll get there. 😍😎

    • @PaulRansonArt
      @PaulRansonArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Cheryl 🥰 Thank you for watching and lovely comments as always. Thankfully this Alizarin Crimson is pretty good at holding its color. Oils don't like direct sunlight so it'll stay good for years to come. This has got to be the easiest combo of colours to make a great looking sky. I'll be sure to use this again. @@PaulRansonArt I finally tried this painting. It's very similar to yours as I followed along to your instructions. Easy to follow along actually. But of course yours is excellent. Mine is okay. You're right, it was a great painting for beginners. My biggest challenge came when trying to use the liner brush. I left the birds out from fear of messing it up or getting into the yellow and making green. I need a tutorial on longer brush use. 1. Do you have one? Also, I want to send you my version of this painting. 2. Do you have a link or email I can forward you a picture of it? Thanks again for help! I love your videos. You have a great personality and soothing voice. You remind me of Bob Ross.

    hey, it's me again 😀
    I have an important question about the products that you are using. I'm a little low on money and can't afford to buy the white and black bob ross colours that you used right now. my question is: do you think this painting could work out if I use white and black acryl paint like you did in the beautiful wood landscape, and apply the colourless liquid before I start painting the sea and dunes?

    • @PaulRansonArt
      @PaulRansonArt  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good question - this oil painting technique relies on each layer being wet so you have time to blend the next layer. Oil paint stays wet for many hours and is perfectly suited to this purpose. Acrylic dries very quickly so your blending time is very limited. You can use a blending medium to slow the drying time down which will help a little when blending acrylics. You can also use distilled water in a fine mist spray. Have a go and see how you get on.

      Absolutly. Please feel free to use which ever brushes you have to hand. Whist I prefer the feel of bristle brushes like the Bob Ross brand I also use synthetic brushes. Happy seascape painting 😎😎

    That’s too funny Paul since I spent ages on hold with a gov agency Wednesday with little or nothing to show for it. Oh well… the lovely thing is that my wife took pity on me and this AM I woke up to a brand new table top easel with drawers and all! That and a 12-pack of canvases larger than I’ve ever used. (Course I’ve only ever painted 2) But she has faith in my ability to learn. You know, if I could paint her portrait, all you would see is a big shiny, glowing area of bright (liquid) white! At least that’s how she looks to me. 24 years and counting with an age gap that astonishes most folks.

    Hello Paul, I have a question-I do not have Liquid Black-can I apply black gesso w Liquid Clear instead for the lower portion?

    • @PaulRansonArt
      @PaulRansonArt  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Karl thank you for the question. In short No. Gesso's are water based paints like acrylics and cannot be mixed with oil based paints. If you do you'll end up with a sticky mess that won't dry and will likely ruin any painting. But you can us black oil paint thinned with a few drops of liquid clear to make a similar mixture to liquid black. Make a sample and paint a little on the corner of your canvas to check consistency. Don't make it too runny! - Have fun Karl 😃😃😃😃

      Hi - thanks for watching and leaving a comment. Mud mixing is almost a right of passage, we've all mixed a little at some time 🤔In my next video you'll see me tackle a whole bunch of trees and bushes without getting into mud. Have a look at how juicy my highlights are over the dry looking dark underpainting. 😮Also note that I rarely ever go over my trees and bushes other than to add a tiny sparkle here and there. After that its all about touch and feel. Maybe I'll make a video all about painting trees and bushes. What do you think? 😀😀

      Thank you Paul, I really need to know how long liquid white stays wet and workable, because I'm rather unwell, and sometimes get interrupted by Nurses etc maybe for a length of time, I don't want it to dry out before I've finished what I'm trying to do.
      I love all the Seascapes, I watched your version of the Pastel Seas over the weekend for one of the many times, I love all your instructive videos, I saw some other guy do a Bob Ross style painting on you tube, it was really dreadful, I was surprised they even put it out to watch!
      So I always come back to yours, although you follow the Bob Ross style, I can tell yours from Bob's just that extra finish I think plus your own style . Thank you for all these videos, keep them coming, there seems to be a slow down in people painting at the moment I have no idea why.
      Take care Sue

      Paul, my painting had dried out too much before I could finish it, been poorly! Can I use liquid clear over where I need to paint, just a very tiny amount to make the surface workable again,? Otherwise the structure of the picture will look wrong, or have you any better ideas.
      I'm just going through a bad patch health wise, hopefully nature will sort its self out, no doctors around here will come to my home, I'm housebound so can't get to them, that's of course if you can get an appointment, 2 weeks minimum wait at the moment!!

    Paul I painted this today on lining paper but the liquid white and black dried way too fast I had to add more white caused more of a problem any ideas ? Had 2 coats of acrylic gray !

    • @PaulRansonArt
      @PaulRansonArt  11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      There are a lot of factors that can cause the surface to dry too quickly. Of late my challenge has been ambient temperature - it's been warm here in the UK and my paper canvases and my regular linen canvases have dried way faster than I wanted them to. For us, the Autumn is just around the corner so we'll be cooler ( and wetter ! ) soon. There is also the consistency of the liquid white/black. I've noticed some cans have more oil and some have less. It's easy enough to fix by adding a drop or two ( yes only a drop at a time! ) of linseed oil to the can and mixing well. The paint should be like thin cream and feel very oily to the touch. I had a new can that was definitely too dry despite lots of stirring. Hope these pointers will help you with the next painting. - Paul 😃

    • @PaulRansonArt
      @PaulRansonArt  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, we as artists ( that includes you now ) leave ourselves open to this possibility. Its actually quite healthy as we can sometimes get a little too close to the problems. Like seeing too much grey and not standing back to realise its actually and elephant! Say hi to the wife for me! I like critics ... but I cant eat a whole one! 😃😍😎

    try water mixable oil paint's use 50% mixable white 50% linseed oil i can do the same thing with water mixable oil's as you can do with normal oil's

    • @PaulRansonArt
      @PaulRansonArt  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the tip! Previously I've applied a very sparing amount of water mixable linseed oil directly to the canvas. Then added small amounts of water mixable titanium white to the canvas and checked as I when until I had a thin coating that wasn't too wet. This gave me the best results for using water mixable oils. Happy painting Ken 😃😎
