My friend got accepted into MARSOC, he said you have to be a superstar in everything, PT, and ASVAB scores, he said he was watched from the start. Badass
I love reading all of these comments about which group is better than whom, when in reality if you get two operators together they have equal respect for each other because they are both members of the special forces community.
I'm thinking/planning on joining the military, and seeing all the SOF gentlemen on youtube; how they're smart, tough, articulated, mature, and strong; I can't help but thinking thats a community I want to be a part of. I'm not even partial to a branch. These men are incredible
In terms of the United States military, the only Special Forces is Army Special Forces, the rest are Special Operations units. Just thought I'd let you know!
The Air Force calls them Special Tactics . Puddle Jumpers, Combat Search & Rescue, Special Weather Observation Team , Combat Control Team , Tactical Air Control Party.
All you have to do is show up for class everyday everyday 24/7 every waking moment don't ever stop don't ever surrender knowledge is the basis for winning and that's a damn good thing what a great foundation thank you
I love how all of you who have no technical expertise in the field are putting in your "two cents". If you have never experienced the Selection/training/operational tempo of SOF please don't try and educate those less privy to the field on something you know virtually nothing about. End of rant!
There are great resources out there to help better understand the training and operations. Though there is no substitute for actually going through the process of the respective training and the enduring of deployment cycles, people can educate themselves about it if their plan is to one day become a part of the military (especially in SOF). Dick Couch, a former Navy SEAL, writes many great books depicting what it is like to be a part of various SOF Units. And the book "Level Zero Heroes" focuses on MARSOC specifically. Videos can also be found depicting SFQS, BUD/S, and the like.
Speaking from being on the Army side and a general military history buff I've still never really gotten into arguing who is better. However, I say the advent of MARSOC is a HUGE deal for SOCOM and the USMC. If anything, I hope it brings the USMC back to its roots as being more of an expeditionary force instead of doing the nation building and peace keeping like the Army. I hope it gets the Corps a bigger piece of the funding pie.
i think they are the best and im not a marine. but i do study the military alot. i spend several hours each day. you dont understand marines until you are one. that goes for me as well. no body likes them but they give the most for this country. they get the toughest jobs and never quit and they dont expect an applause or recognition for their work. they fight for eachother
To clarify some confusion among the difference between Marsoc and Force Recon Marines: MARSOC Marines fall under the umbrella of SOCOM, and answer to them. This is why you see them without a fresh haircut, a different uniform, and often beards. They answer directly to SOCOM, but still are technically in the Marine Corps. They still perform the annual tasks required of Marines, for example the PFT, CFT, and rifle range. These Marines also undergo more extensive training than Recon Marines. Force Recon Marines do not fall under SOCOM, they still answer directly to the Marine Corps. While not falling under SOCOM usually means that that unit is not Special Forces, Force Reconnaissance Marines do still have all of the skillsets and capabilities of a Special Forces unit. The only difference is the schooling time, and the fact of not falling under SOCOM. The debate rages continuously about whether MARSOC or Recon training is harder, but the truth is both of them are going to destroy you physically. If you have the mental resolve to complete one of these schools, you can complete the other. A lot of MARSOC guys were prior Recon, and say that Recon was harder than Assessment and selection for MARSOC, the reason being that being a Recon Marine first gave them the skillsets and physical ability to pass MARSOC A/S very smoothly.
BRC is a different type of brutal. A&S is a gentleman’s course, they treat you like an adult, and there’s no penalty or shame in quitting. No external pressure, all the motivation to continue has to come from within.
Recon and MarSOC remain two separate entities. Recon is still focused on reconnaissance operations. MarSOC, however, is essentially the Marine version of the Army's Special Forces (aka Green Berets). They do see plenty of combat.
This is a good debate and one can understand how easy it is to argue to sides. Valid points are that Force SOF organic to the Corps, because Chesty Puller wanted the ability to utilize a unit who was "Special Operations Capable" and who did not operate under the umbrella of SOCOM. When MARSOC is in theatre it operates under the directive of SOCOM. Hence it does not answer to the conventional Marine Corps. Endstate: Force & MARSOC=Special Operations with different missions.
The Army's "Delta Force"(1st SFOD-D) which is an Elite Tier 1 unit get's 75% of it's recruits from the 75th Ranger Regiment which is a part of USASOC. And most Ranger's also have regular Army Infantry experience as well. Ranger's are special Operations and highly experienced and only the best are selected for Delta.
Super Marines and superior, seasoned Special Operators of MARSOC Raider Regiment. Special and Elite, Chosen and Unique, World Class and Badass Battlefield Shooters and Special Operators. Ooh Rah United States Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command ( USMC MARSOC)!!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅🗽🔫⚔️🗡️💥🔥💀
because of Rumsfeld(I am not a big fan of him). in 2010 they did join part of SOCOM-JSOC community playing joint ops and MARSOC doing the great job with Force.
I signed up for 0311 infantry, I've done two tours, I wanted my MOS, you can google School of Infantry Marine Corps, and look at the training pipeline for specifics, I'm sure it's changed a lot, especially now that women are allowed, but I highly recommend you read your constitution before swearing an oath to it.
Their is a tier 1 element of marsoc in the pipeline. They are keeping it hush hush. In the publicly released marine spending files, there's a lot of money going to marsoc SMU program. All the units in JSOC are called SMU's special mission units
I wasn't saying that's my opinion, just saying a lot of people love them and will still use em today. I do like the newer FROG suits the best so far. I have a feeling we won't get anything better for a while.
RASP is designed to prepare soldiers, many of whom have just graduated Basic Training, Advanced Individual Training, and Airborne School and are still considered "fresh" for assignment to the 75th Ranger Regiment. SOI is the second stage of initial military training for enlisted Marines after Recruit Training.Marines with the MOS infantry are trained at the Infantry Training Battalion, all non-infantry Marines are trained in basic infantry combat skills at the Marine Combat Training Battalion.
Oliver North did a show in Afghanistan which shed light on a dual command combining Army SF and MARSOC. I've heard Army SF and MARSOC have very close working relationship similar to Army DF and DEVGRU. I can't post the link to the show, but you can search for it easily enough.
True they fureled the flag of 1st and 2nd force recon companies when they drained them to start up MARSOC in 2006. But 1st and 2nd recon battalions are still around and will always be. They even changed the designation of the delta companies in the battalions for "Force" Companies to do extreme long range recon for fleet marine force commanders. Just the direct action and fancy stuff are now MARSOC jobs. Force Recon is back to it's traditional role, deep reconnaissance.
Agreed, fewer and fewer patriot ready and willing to put their lives on the line of our nation. Alas I tried to get into the Corp., had a injury pop up on my screening and didn't get in. Still love the Corp. and any other US Mil though.
that may possible but they mostly do exchange training not officially recruiting and good thing is now all of SOF's units are exchange training also know hot to play as teamwork with other SOF's unit. ForceRecon working their asses real hard to bring their Recon Indoc (loose of 7 years)
Today will be different. Is anybody drinking whiskey besides me at 0734 hours? Damn military time takes a minute to get used to it son of a gun my deepest apologies for not being high and tight just a little high and just little uptight LOL that's the joke part haha God for humor thank you
Watching this Video Depresses me,, I always wanted to end up in MARSOC. No other military group quite appealed to me as this one did. I really felt they made a difference. Just something about How new and fresh and innovative this group was just formed in 2006. All through Highschool I was planning on joining the Marines and going through the mmotions to attain membership in this elite group. Are there exchange tours with Army SF or British SAS? I know the Army Green Berets have been working very closely with MARSOC to help them develop some of their training and support them operationally.
I know right, I feel ashamed of myself, all the times the Marines turned the tide of major battles, all the times the Marines came to the Army's rescue, all while using half the budget and equipment the Army has. Us poor Marines will never live up to the great name that is Army...
@jersylife86 my biggest point is "DONT label a single SOF as the best, RESPECT all SOF and all SERVICEMEN alike for their enormous sacrifice be them infantry or cooks. THEY ALL DESERVE OUR UNCONDITIONAL RESPECT for protecting our country, our liberties, and our freedoms.
That's a good way to look at it. Almost the best way to enter the military is without any grand expectations, because the truth of the matter is it sucks most of the time, lol. But there are some really great parts too that make up for the bad times. When MarSOC was created, they did poach a lot of candidates from the Force Recon companies, but Force Recon eventually replaced the losses.
You kids say what you want, but in my opinion, MARSOC is way more experienced than most tier one units. Unlike those guys who have only done intense training and high profile missions their whole life, MARSOC is comprised of volunteers from Marine Infantry who already have multiple regular combat tours under their belts, prior to joining MARSOC. They are more well rounded because their experience isn't just the scalpal, they are both hammer and scalpal.
Unfortunately just when The Corps finally gets its DA Unit the good old government starts hitting them with budget cuts. Very unfortunate, but at least it will drive away all the kids who think they can be the next Rambo and who want the latest and greatest tech. Send in the real Spartans!
More comfortable then the new FROG suits? I have had both and I wore them. I would say the FROG suit takes the cake in comfort. It is light, breathable, fire resistant, and soft. But I guess that is just this persons opinion. =)
MARSOC is voluntary, don't listen to the anyone who says it isn't. You'll need to be an NCO before you can put a packet in. If you want to be a Critical Skills Operator, you may want to rethink your choice of Intel Specialist (0231). Lots of sitting around typing on computers in that job, not a lot of time getting dirty. Infantry provides the best entry level MOS for follow later becoming a CSO. Finally, P90x is alright for what it does, but nothing replaces rucking long distances.
I was reading that force recon and bttn recon are very similar... except towards the end where force recon candidates have to do more running/ rucking/ swimming... i can't remember where I heard that so I may be wrong
Ok so the Water Stuff, Rappelling, and the Obstacle courses they do in Ranger School (61 days) are already done and out of the way in the Marine Corps bootcamp, so that leaves basic things like land navigation, rucking, running, training on other weapons, and tactics, etc. Which are all done in SOI (59 days). So how is it much harder than SOI considering some of the stuff in Ranger School is done in Marine Bootcamp?
I was just messing around but yes they could film it in hostile territory they are there everyday operating, kicking ISIS in the teeth in Africa currently. That would be much better footage.
If you ask me it would be exciting to get into MARSOC or try. Something brand new and exciting. Joining a new group while its still undergoing its evolution.
Marines can prepare and move out under command by the president, unlike other branches who wait to move out through politics. So if marsoc do the same, I'm pretty sure marsoc will be successful as a new special forces.
I read somewhere that marsoc a&s is much like army sf selection, and recon indoc is obviously on surviving the cut, and force recon is something entirely different, i dunno their process
Your wrong, Force Recon Operators are Marines who do missions primarily for the Marine chain of command. MARSOC operators usually do missions for JSOC.
it's on their main website. just search marsoc on google and look at the critical skills operators. I know for sure is that they at least want you two serve at least 3 years or underwent 2 deployments. These are seasoned Marines not new boots coming in.
I am really interested in this, atm doin p90x, and I will be adding the MARSOC short-card schedule to my p90x schedule. I think when I join in January I'll go and apply for Inteligence specialist first, then Marsoc. atm just sharpening my physical endurance and working on my 3rd language (japanese) on my own.
I agree that the Army isn't that tough, but the guys I talk to are Airborne, they by no means take it easy. I guess you have a point though, I just hear stories of guys going in with a lot of muscle and then just losing it all, and it takes them months to get it back. Just stories though.
MFR working really hard to bring their Recon Indoc Program)looses of 7 years) which back in old MFR (separate like Battalion Reconnaissance and Force Reconnaissace Co.)
NO actually we don't know what they are considered, all we know is that they're new to SOCOM. There hasn't been a lot of news about them. But for now I'm guessing they're Tier-3 with the rest of the SEALs and, army sf (green berets and what not). Tier-2 are actually supporting units of delta and dev-gru such as the 160th SOAR and the 75th rangers. The Tier system really is only there to help allocate funding with Tier-1 getting the most. Tier-1 could be any unit who is most suited for themission
Marine is a fast small self sufficient force that attacks rapidly, just like the spartans from Greece or Rome, it is expeditionary meaning always sitting close to danger zones and looking for a fight...
Probably the best military ad I’ve seen.

I think when I join in January I'll go and apply for Inteligence specialist first, then Marsoc. atm just sharpening my physical endurance and working on my 3rd language (japanese) on my own.
Makes me want to be a Raider today...
No they are still around there are 2 types of Recon in the USMC

Happy new years to you too! Despite all the other shit.
also 1st Force Recon are the only individual company that working with other SF units...
@James Cope marines or navy is the question for me.
That depends on what you're looking for in the military. If you have to ask that question, chances are you are looking to join the Army.
stone bay, home of the new ricky racoon... i'd hate to have to go through all that traffic to qualify at the range now...
Tier-1 could be any unit who is most suited for themission
holy crap that was bad ass
Marine is a fast small self sufficient force that attacks rapidly, just like the spartans from Greece or Rome, it is expeditionary meaning always sitting close to danger zones and looking for a fight...
