Snowy owls: What is it like to raise 8 multi-age chicks?

Snowy owls are an iconic species of the Arctic. Animal world of the Arctic. Birds of prey. Snowy owl on the nest, parenting behavior, animal sounds.
Snowy owl (named Didi) nest. Summer time in the Arctic. Didi laid 9 eggs in spring. Now she has 8 owlets of different ages. The younger ones are still small, helpless and blind - the female must warm them. The older ones are already quite independent for thermoregulation and can themselves warm the younger ones.
Owls begin incubation by laying their first egg. Therefore, their owlets can have a big difference in age and size. In this nest, the older one hatched 18 days earlier than the younger one and has already eaten several dozen lemmings. Parents are very busy catching prey and feeding offspring.

Спасибо за комментарий! Белые совы начинают гнездится в мае, в заснеженных ландшафтах, когда преобладают отрицательные температуры воздуха. Самки откладывают одно яйцо в два дня. и их кладка может быть большой, до 14 яиц. Самки начинают насиживание с первого яйца и через 32-33 дня появляется птенец. Появления птенцов происходит в последовательности отладывания яиц. Поэтому при большой кладке возникает разница в возрасте птенцов. В данном видео яйцо уже погибшее, из него птенец не вылупился. В середине августа птенцы уже подлетывают, но остаются с родителями, которые продолжают их кормить. К этому времени разница в размерах птенцов практически исчезает
