- Superfast Bowline How to Tie the Bowline Fast
The preloaded Bowline, is a really fast way of tying a Bowline. The idea is that prior to tying your Bowline, actually create a Marlin Spike Hitch. Then when you need to create the Bowline you just past the working end of your rope through the Marlin Spike Hitch and then roll your hand over the knot and your Bowline will be formed. This method can be used whether you just want to tie a Bowline or create a Bowline around an object.
What is the Bowline Used for? The Bowline is a great way of creating a fixed loop knot at the end of a rope. Often used for mooring boats, lifting and heaving. It is generally considered a very secure knot that does not easily jam when the rope is loaded. Also relatively easy to undo.
Ashley's Book of Knots : 1010 "The Bowline, Bowling, or Bolin Knot, sometimes called Bowling’s Knot. The name is derived from bow line, a rope that holds the weather leech of a square sail forward and prevents the sail from being taken aback. As the line or rope that provided the knot is no longer in use, the Bowline Knot is nowadays very apt to be termed merely the “Bowline,” the word knot being dropped."

Growing up in a Navy town many years ago I picked this up from an old salt who had learned it from WW2 guys. It’s a slip knot with the free end run through and then turned inside out! You’re the only other person I’ve run into that knows how to do it this way. He taught us to throw the end of the rope around our waist and tie the knot around us in a couple seconds or less.
I also love how knots are packed full of memories 😉 😉 😉 Thanks for taking the time to share this information, I always love to hear about knots and cordage being used in action!
@@KnottingKnots His story was they used it to retrieve swimmers under fire after they had done their survey work on a beach before a landing. Must have been one of their earlier efforts because I believe they had a slicker system during the heavy push in the Pacific. He was pretty good with a rope and I remember at least a couple of them!
It’s our goto method of bowline, it’s also essentially a Marlin spike hitch ending up as bowline, and sheetbend can be tied using the same method.

Ahh no more rabbit comes out of the hole then around the tree and back down the hole. Very clever. Thanks for sharing.
Yes, it would seem that the rabbit is slowly leaving us............ sad really.
Hello. Very cleaver, thank you. I would like to keep the little bunny running around though.
Damn, Doctor... I'll be using this the rest of my life!!! Thank You!

Cleanly explained. Making use of the marlin spike hitch is efficient.

Bravo. Two of my favorite knots. So versatile and practical.
What is your other favourite?
@@KnottingKnots The marlin spike hitch. In terms of frequent usage, ease of tying, and application, the BL/MSH are two great knots.
We use in yacht racing. Use that setup be for using a climbing harness on a halyard to swing out to the free end of a sail that needs a new line attached. Slip through the crinkle, tuck into the prep loop and tug on the tail as you swing back to the deck. We call it the Ninja bowline.

Soooo helpful. Thanks for sharing.
Glad it was helpful! Do you think you will be using this in the future?
@@KnottingKnots Absolutely, it used to take me forever to make these knots. The bowline is my favorite. Thanks again!
Felicidades por su canal, gracias por compartir. Saludos de México.
Hola México. Gracias por tomarte el tiempo de ver y también de dejar un comentario, te lo agradezco mucho.
I'd kinda noticed that the marlin was similar. Very clever thanks, makes tying bowline on other things much easier!😊 Subbed, you're almost on 100k 👍😎
Many thanks for the sub 😉 😉 😉 You may also enjoy this rather old video on what else can be done with the Marlin Spike Hitch: th-cam.com/video/3r2UjaV8SVg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=v1oeUYoTI2hBPCye

On my goodness this is amazing! I've been a scout for over a decade and rock climbing for over 5 years. How have I not come across this before.

I learned to tie this knot one handed
That could be useful to know. Thanks for taking the time to share this information, I always love to hear about knots and cordage being used in action!
@@KnottingKnots learned it during a rescue course. was part of the abseiling / rescue from heights bit
I know this as a pirates knot. Pirates used to tie the slip knot above their flag, pass the haul line through the slip knot and pull their flag up, when at the top a sharp tug collapses the slip knot and someone needs to climb up to remove it

The knot daddy 🤣.
Thanks for taking the time to view and also make a comment, very much appreciated.
Very cool. However, after more than 40 years on the water professionally, and years as a fire fighter, Ive never needed to tie a bowline any faster than the way I was taught back in 1979. Nice to know though
To be honest, it is just a trick type knot, but for some reason people seem to love them. Thanks for taking the time to view and also make a comment, very much appreciated.
Hi good
Glad that you liked this one, you can also do the same for the Sheet Bend: th-cam.com/video/NmWytZTZ-jA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=lEG68b6Ee9eanQw3
Oh weird. Ive been doing this for years. Didnt know it was a special shortcut method. To me it just seemed like quick way. I use a truckers hitch and then collapse it on itself.. Pretty much as in video

Isn’t that a marlin spike hitch in the beginning?
Yes, well spotted 😉 😉 😉
Well. Well done!
Unless I miss my guess, that's a Mikko Snellman fid?
No, that is a custom fid I had made in the States............. his are good, but not as good as mine 😉 😉 😉
When you do this up to normal speed, it would still be the slowest way to tie a bowline that I know.
Even a one-handed bowline can be tied in one second.
Just saying.
That is not how we learn in the Boy Scouts. It was make a loop, the rabbit (end of the rope) comes out of the hole...around the tree and back down the hole.
Yes, that version is on my channel too 😉 😉 😉 Thanks for taking the time to view and also make a comment, very much appreciated.
@@KnottingKnots Good to know there are different ways to tie a bolan. Wonder if they teach knot tieing in the Boycouts these days?
That's the only way I know how to tie one.

There's a lot faster and easier way to tie it
Please do tell more?
@@KnottingKnots I would show you but I'm old and don't know how to post a video.
😂 is not faster than any other bowline so what’s the point ???
....... just to annoy you 😉 😉 😉
That is nothing but ridiculous. I can a tie a bowline 10 times faster than that. With preparing the rope and then actually tying the knot you might as well just tie a bowline.
I am willing to refund you 1:50 minutes of time you wasted watching this?
Then make your own video. Too much whining and complaining
@@KnottingKnots He's right. There are quicker ways to tie a bowline around a stanchion than your method. And snide remarks are a great way to build your channel!
Leys see you tie a bowline on a bight!
