That's exactly what I initially thought. I do believe that Gordon and John are better teachers, but there is no doubt that they are reteaching Marcelo's techniques, and I'm a big proponent of giving people credit. It would be nice if Gordon and John gave Marcelo the credit he deserves for being the true GOAT, contributing immeasurably to jiujitsu, and regurgitating his techniques. Another technique that Gordon claims to be his is "float passing"; however, Marcelo used this numerous times during his ADCC runs.

what about the darce choke? Seems to be fairly easy for opponent to get it

Not if done correctly . You need to understand the battle here . Every escape gives some sort of opening . In this situation if you do a good job with the cross frame and have good awareness you will not get darce choked

If I could go back in time and give younger me some advice it would be to do exactly what my coach said and then practice it.
