    A trailer wiring harness will kit will have everything you need to redo the lights. It is all color coded and extremely easy to follow. Will enjoy the build for sure.

    I've had permanent houses for 20 years. Shelves are key I'd put one about a foot down from the ceiling everywhere you can, replace the one above the heater with one that isn't solid so heat can go through it for drying stuff(gloves socks ect.). I'd put carpet on the floor, it dries nice and won't be slippery when wet. I could go on and on but you can't have to many shelves. Make sure they're high enough so drunks don't hit their head. A solar powered motion light outside the door is really nice every time you open the door it comes on. Like 25 bucks at Menards and lasts many years.

    insulated peel and stick flooring wood pattern all over!!!!!! for more insulation!!Remove the lights and go with solar led lights and rope lights. fans are probably solar, get another solar panel and sink them to 2 batteries. Add another window to the back and get a trailer light hook up and splice it into the light system for the trailer.

    I think you should definitely hang another bed at the other end. But definitely make sure it’s high enough to fit a cot under for a 4th person. Benches that fold up positioned by each hole. Bigger counter top that folds up as well for sick catch and cooks. This series is going to be epic. Looking forward to it!

    Congrats on your first ice house! Just started watching your guys videos, you're putting out some nice ones. Reading the comments there's been some pretty good ideas. I like your idea of waterproof vinyl flooring. Lots of fish houses have wood walls and they last for years. Walls can always be painted, you could cover them with cool stickers or whatever. Your heater is a non vented propane heater. They are relatively safe but be sure your CO detector is working properly. They let a lot of moisture into the house so sometimes in colder weather your door and windows will frost or freeze up. If you sleep in it be sure to leave window cracked for some fresh air.
    Someone recommended replacing the heater with a forced air style. I disagree, those types of heaters are very hard on batteries you would have to run the generator quite frequently if not all the time. I would recommend a vented type wall heater. Don't need any power and all the harmful fumes are vented outside. I've been researching for when I get my permanent house build going. Guys are using PC fans for moving air around the shack, low power draw and many are 12 volt. Upgrade the lighting to LED it's pretty low draw compared to incandescent.
    When I build my permanent shack I'm going to build a Happy Jack style bunk. That way you can run it up out of the way for day fishing and drop it down for night time. Saw a video the other day and a couple had jackknife bunks, I'd never seen them before. Didn't look like they stuck out too far when folded against the wall. Maybe not as comfy to sleep on though.
    Just try to plan everything out such as wiring and all so it looks nice when you're done. Something to be said about clean looking projects. Good luck! I also say fish in it this winter and fix it up in the non ice season.

    If you get a battery box like they use in RVs you can have the solar run straight into it and it will have a number of Anderson plugs on it for connecting 12v appliances or you could add a pure sine wave inverter and run 110/240v. When connecting the system DON'T connect the solar panels and turn them on until everything else is connected. As soon as the panels are connected they're supplying charge so hook everything else up first.
    For a short term fix get a lightboard for the back of the trailer. It's just a set of tailer lights on an 8 foot long PVC board with a 20 foot lead and plug. Super common here in Oz. Just about every boat you see has one. I've also used them on cage trailers, car trailers etc.

    You need hooks to hang jackets and shelves to hold lattes and tackle. Lighting down by the holes is really nice when the rattle reels go off at night. Rattle reels that can be taken off the walls when not in use is huge. You’re going to want a broom in there to clean up/get slush off the floor. Make sure to get safety hole covers so Jon doesn’t lose another camera 😂

    Jon you could just add two boards back to were that top bunk was originally and then just when not in use move the bed to the top and out of the way and you could then put your stuff up there so that stuff is out of the way and then when ready for bed just move it back down!!! You would only have to get two boards and mount to the wall and you would be good to go!!! That’s probably what I would do and then it could be used more multiple things!!! Well hopefully that helps you out???

  • @hinben
    @hinben ปีที่แล้ว +3

    For flooring maybe look at boat foam flooring, it'll be more comfortable to walk on, look better, and can be sprayed off/not affected by water. For lights, I'd suggest the select a size led strip. That way for night time you can use a green or something that's not sleep disruptive, but still overs visibility. And for the trailer wiring, you can order kits on Amazon that go from new lights all the way to the connector for less than $30

  • @brianlangum6253
    @brianlangum6253 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    It's probably already been mentioned but all the outlets will require a generator to provide 120 VAC power to them. Definitely get LED lights that run of a 12 VDC battery for lighting so you don't need the generator. The shelf above the heater would work well for warming already cooked food but not actual cooking. As for the wall, yes replace the wood paneling with a plastic, fiberglass, composite, any material that is water proof or at least water resistent. You shanty will go through numerous heating/cooling cycles which will create condensation/moisture with leads to molding and roting. This looks like a great and fun project.

    I think you might need to make sure of the tires first thing. Why, will they need to have heavy sidewalls for the weight your house is. Make sure you have Load range D
    Next look at the bearings and replace them regularly you don’t want to be dead on the road because a bearing is froze
    I agree with shelving, wire shelving is best up near the ceiling
    Remember any thing you add will add weight lt strains the bearing more
    That heater will work great , keep it clean
    Take out the bunks and get cots and some chairs for mobility
    If you mount a TV remember that the roads are rough and a tv might not make the ride well
    Just my 2 cents
    And been down this road before

    You definitely got a good deal, I think. You can buy LED bulbs to screw into the existing sockets. Yeah you should vinyl plank the floor. You might want to waterproof the wood before you put vinyl down. One problem I see unless it is adjustable, is if the solar panel is permanently attached straight up and down. If it is you should make or have made an adjustable mount to swing it out to different angles to catch the sun.

    You a should mount that carbon monoxide detector closer to the floor. That's where those Gasses will start to collect first

    Those plastic things on the wall are rod holders or even good for tip ups and normally attached to a 5 gallon bucket. I bet they used tip ups on the walls as a dead stick for fishing. Heck, maybe even used a tip up as a dead stick the way they mounted it over the holes. Get rid of them, though. I have them on buckets and they’re ok, but nothing worth keeping on the walls.

    Minn-Dak Shack ? Food and drink are primary so make sure you address them. Warmth and comfort too. Like the TV idea, got to have tunes too. Rod racks. Places for all your audio visual stuff. Additional spares. Learn trailer maintenance too. Count on the roof leaking so learn how to patch/repair. Can't wait to see the finished product. Insure and secure, very important. Sadly, losers are already trying to figure out how to steal it. Congrats and best of luck !!!
