- Iran is one of the world’s most beautiful and interesting countries, and an eye-opening travel destination. From mesmerizing desert landscapes to the shores of the Persian Gulf. From the ruins of Persepolis to the modern streets of Tehran. From charming mountain villages to lively historic bazaars.
Today’s Iran is a complicated, intriguing, but also a fascinating place, with some of the most welcoming and curious people you will ever meet. I traveled through Iran in 2013, and in this video I take you back to 10 favorite places that I visited.

Here’s a brief overview of the content in this video:
We start this journey in Esfahan, one of Iran’s most beautiful and friendliest cities, attracting tourists and travelers from afar. It is filled with captivating monuments, historic buildings, tranquil gardens, museums, and in general provides a great introduction to daily life in Iran.
After Esfahan, we travel to Kerman, a city on the fringes of the desert. It is most popular for what lies outside the city, the remains of the ‘Arg’ (an ancient citadel), and the small town of Rayen with its beautiful gardens and shrine. Not far from here are the Kaluts, some of Iran’s most spectacular desert scenery. These places are best reached by private vehicle, as public transport here is limited.
Iran has a long coastline and several island, the largest of which is Qeshm, in the Persian Gulf. This island is relatively underdeveloped and retains much of its traditional characteristics. It’s a great way to get an insight into local Bandari culture, and to witness some of the local economy at work, including agriculture, fishing, and the construction of classic ‘lenge’ boats.
Shiraz is regarded as the center of Persian culture for the last two millennia, and has some of the country’s most beautiful ancient bazaars and historic mosques. It’s also home for the tombs of Hafez and Sa’di, two poets that hold a special place in Iranian society and literature. The ruins of Persepolis, just outside Shiraz, evoke images of a thriving ancient Persia, and should not be missed.
The next destination is Tehran, the bustling capital city, and beating economic heart, of Iran. As the most secular and liberal city in the country, it’s the best place to learn about modern Iran. Qom, on the other hand, is one of the conservative ‘strongholds’ in the country, and provides an interesting contrast with Tehran.
We travel further to Kandovan, a beautiful mountain village where some of the houses are carved out of eroded rocks. It’s near Tabriz, the final destination in the video, famous for its magnificent bazaar.

I visited Iran many times. It is a beautiful country inspite of the economic sanctions apposed by the United States of America.

In the past seven months, I've been immersing myself in the Bakhtiari culture, exploring their cuisine and lifestyle, and I've completely fallen in love with what I've seen. Although I've traveled to 84 countries, I haven't yet visited Iran. One of the best countries to visit,only people who are put off by western propaganda wouldn’t know how beautiful Iran 🇮🇷 and it’s people are,of course the country has its own problem but tell me which country hasn’t
The problem isn’t the beauty of the country, or its people but the regime which can target foreigners for no reason.
So many westerners are languishing in Iran’s prison for no good reason. We all know of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe most recently.
I would love to visit the country but, just like with Saudi Arabia, I wouldn’t because of the unreasonable regime (in my opinion only).

The best travel documentary film-maker on TH-cam. You're an inspiration, Stef, you really are. It's wonderful being able to see places through your camera lens that I will never be able to see in my lifetime. Chick Corea paid homage to Isfahan many years ago! The track 'Isfahan' on Al DiMeola's 'Splendido Hotel' album is beautiful and very evocative. The Persians were very active traders in Thailand during the Ayuthaya period and the Bunnag dynasty, which was started by Persian traders, was one of the most influential families in Thailand. I've heard the food is really good in Iran and those kebabs looked delicious. As ever, a fantastic video!

My praise for your work is genuine. Have you considered making a video on how you plan, shoot, edit your projects? I don't do any travelogue type videos on this channel, but my other channel about Thai language and living in Thailand has some of that type of content. It's not good and I'd like to improve it. Although I am from Tabriz, unfortunately, The North and its beautiful forests, as well as the Caspian Sea and Alborz mountains, are less represented by adventurers and TH-camrs these days, and I am trying to figure out why. Nevertheless, thanks for sharing the video to relive the atmosphere in Iranian cities.

I'm from Japan, and thank you very much for sharing your documentary video. I really enjoyed seeing rich culture and the grandeur of nature all over Iran. In Japan, there is a famous Iranian actress called Ms. Sahel Rosa, and she recommends us to visit Iran someday in the future. Until then, I'm learning Persian little by little!
