@6:02 it shows that the masked group had a greater increase in performance...+16.5%(mask) vs +13.5% (no mask) and +13.6%(masked) vs +9.9%(no mask). That's 22% and 37% more of an improvement respectively.
In research, this doesn't matter if you don't reach ''statistical significance''. Read the original study if you want to understand more, it is linked in the description.
Phenomenal video btw, TH-cam needs more videos like this! TH-cam is way too full of complete misinformation and nonsense based on junk science, so it refreshing to see a video like this. I really am just splitting hairs here because I did read the conclusion of the study and saw that: "The relatively large improvements in VT, PO at VT, RCT, and PO at RCT while wearing the mask could have very significant performance implications." It is important to note that while the changes in VO2 and PPO were not statistically significant, the improvements in RCT and PO were. While it is important to keep in mind whether or not something is statistically significant, keep in mind the p value of .06 is really close to .05, which is what would be necessary for it to be statistically significant. All a p value greater than .05 says is that we do not have enough evidence to reject the hypothesis that there is no difference. Below is the excerpt. "No significant differences were found in pulmonary function or hematological variables between or within groups. There was a significant improvement in VO2max and PPO in both the control (13.5% and 9.9%) and mask (16.5% and 13.6%) groups. There was no difference in the magnitude of improvement between groups. Only the mask group had significant improvements in ventilatory threshold (VT) (13.9%), power output (PO) at VT (19.3%), respiratory compensation threshold (RCT) (10.2%), and PO at RCT (16.4%) from pre to post-testing. The trends for improvements in VT and PO at VT between groups were similar to improvements in RCT and PO at RCT, but did not reach statistical significance (VT p = 0.06, PO at VT p = 0.170)."
@@Kreeck06 Thanks a lot. This is exactly what I'm trying to do on this channel. No more bro-science. In addition to these findings, you can also check a 2018 study, that after 12 weeks of training with or without this mask, found that training with this mask can actually hinder performance improvements. I live in one of the Mexico's highest cities. I'm about 2600 meters above sea level since inwas born, two times per year (since 8yrs ago) I hike the local mountain (4600 m) I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and rinitis when I was a child (10yr old) and I've been using ETM 2.0 ocassionally since 2012. I havent made a register but five years ago my average oxigen level were between 89-92, now with the covid thing I check it as a routine because near people got sick and my average is between 94-96 despite I don't doing almost any excercise and I'm very restricted at my training. In a scientific point of view I consider my personal experience could be multifactorial but this is how science works, maybe with case's studies, bigger samples, other lattitude replications of the studies, etc. Great job! An interesting research.
I get your point and yes this maybe be a case for these masks. In my upcoming video, I am explaining why the personal story of someone doesn't really serve as a justification for the quallity of the mask. There may be many other factors that contributed to your progress but thank you for sharing your story! I always say "with the data that we currently have" before I make a conclusion and this is exactly because we don't know everything. If I were you I would train consistently with a Respiratory Muscle Training device like the powerbreathe plus. It's a very well designed and sophisticated device that would probably help you a lot more. Thanks for your feedback!
Awesome vid! You should do a vid that debunked the idea that women that wear bands around their legs while doing leg exercises get more activation in the glutes muscles which leads to getting bigger but faster.
you can actually cut out filters to fit in the circle valves where the rubber thing usually goes and by doing that you will actually have a lot better and safer mask then a hand made, handkerchief or even store bought medical mask because whatever air you breath in is coming through the filter you put in the mask 👍🏽🙏🏽 I bought 2 different kinds of elevation mask and I use them both for work. I’m essential worker so I still come in contact with people daily and if you want to still train with it then you just pop the rubber pieces back in👍🏽 Hope this helps some of you out there🙏🏽

If you want to train your respiratory muscles, you can go do butterfly swims in the pool. You get cardiovascular exercise and more benefits than sitting in a chair using a device routinely for respiratory training. Probably why you don't see the spirometer devices outside of the hospital.
You confirmed the reason I wanted one, thank you. I wanted to know if it would be a good training aid for strengthening my lungs and heart as I suffer from asthma.
Not the heart, only the muscles of the respiration. If you suffer from asthma you should train these muscles but with other devices. There are way better devices that have been structured especially for people like you. One good choice is the "powerbreathe" device.
Thanks for the detailed video.. what i understand from your video is that this device is not worth buying as it doesn't affect your performance in any way.

05:56 claims there was no difference in improvement for Vo2 max and power between two groups in the test but the figures clearly show that although both groups improved the masked group improved by 3% more on VO2 max and 4% on power. For athletes those percentages are significant.
