BULBOUS BOUFFANT - The Vestibules - rotoscope animation

  • 3 guys are waiting for the bus. (Audio is by the comedy group "The Vestibules")
I made this video as my independent study in 2006 at the University of Iowa. It took about 300 hours, if I remember correctly. It's made with the rotoscope animation process which is where you take live action footage and essentially trace it to create a new effect.

If you check out the credits you'll notice that it says the audio was created by The Vestibules and I don't hide that fact. If you search "Bulbous Bouffant" in TH-cam, you'll find a TON of other people who have used this very same audio. Actually, you probably see some of those in the bar on the left. In addition, I actually contacted The Vestibules and got official permission from them to create the video in the first place.

I showed this to a university class full of future English teachers as we began a unit on methods for teaching vocabulary. Theorists tell us to get students excited about language (words). This is so very old, from the far reaches of the First Era of the Internet of Things. It holds in its moments the keys into a former age, to the understanding of the core of humor. This, my friends, this is the essence of early 21st century comedy. Be that as it may, this relic has, unfortunately, never seen the popularity it deserves. May it rest in honor, to be referenced by niche friend groups for years to come. Not fading from our memories, and preserved in the unending archives of the ever-growing world wide web.

Heard this first when I bought a Dr. Demento CD because it had a couple Weird Al's songs on it! But having heard this, it's become an instinct classic! I love it when someone asks me a closed ended questions, I respond Nooo, the Eskimos! Or a BaluGA whale! Those enlightened by this recording catch it instantly, others just look at me and walk away w a pained, strained look on their face! I've even memorized this with my daughters, and make for a fun car ride as we roll along saying/ singing mukluks/placebo/blubber / blubber/blubber/ shindig
