  • Here is a nearly exhaustive hour exploring UVI's offerings in sample libraries and their deep, powerful softsynth flagship. I chose Augmented Piano, World Suite, and of course Falcon to see what they're up to. Time Stampz:
    Augmented Piano: 6:23
    World Suite: 13:26
    Falcon: 27:21
    Autosequenced world patch: 50:00
    Crazy bowed string generative patch: 55:52
    Conclusion: 56:36

    I just recently became a Falcon 2.5 user, and actually stumbled across this video when researching whether to add a second-hand license of World Suite 1 to my arsenal. Even though it has been upgraded to v2, v1 still seems like a great tool, so you made that decision an easy one for me!

  • @tinbots
    @tinbots 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    In Falcon filters can be added at many different levels... that is, not restricted to the FX window. For instance, you could build a single patch that has 3 oscillators... analog, wavetable and granular - you can add a filter(s) (or some fx) to each oscillator... you can then add a filter(s) (or some fx) to the mixed output of the 3 oscillators - you can add further filters in the FX window along with any FX. DEEP!!!

    First thanks for the video upload ... great insight..
    I have Omnisphere & Kontakt Komplete .. then bought the uvi vintage synth then Falcon
    I will say though UVI needs videos like this that can show off the power
    An example .. i know you can use scripting but sadly no videos on examples on how to ...
    Its like saying Unix is powerful ...... we know it is, but how (show me) ..lol
    Visual tutorials speak a thousand words than just reading a manual ..

    This almost looks like a competitor to Halion 6. In terms of Omnisphere, Falcon's capabilities seem similar, but with more real instrument samples as opposed to Omnisphere's weird and wonderful samples that produce great pads, etc. I have Omnisphere and love it - this looks great too. I was waiting for a Halion 6 sale, but am now tempted by Falcon. Thanks for the video.

    Great demo/tutorial man! I've been looking for an in-depth demo of Falcon like this and there isn't much out there.
    I have Kontakt, but I don't use it often, I was actually looking for an all-in-one sampler/synth and I've been considering this and Halion 6.
    This review makes it clear that Falcon is the one for me. Just curious, how easy is it to load user samples into the wave table synth in Falcon?
    Thanks for the great video man! Subbed.

    • @blushakimbo
      @blushakimbo 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's pretty easy! I just have a link to my Serum wavetables folder and you can drag and drop it from there. My only complaint is that I wish you could save your wavetables into the synth so you can just load it from their drop down menu in the wavetable oscillator.

    I've had the UVI Workstation stuck in my DAW for years with no sounds and then today I got a free bundled UVI German Grand Piano with a Presonus Faderport, loaded it up and it sounded superb. Now I hear the Falcon calling me and you're not helping me! Only problem is we're not talking peanuts for AVI stuff, it's very expensive. I don't know why but I just don't like the Native Instruments model, seems like the Apple model were you have to totally commit to their product and buy into the whole concept rather than sharing it around. So I have a strong feeling Falcon might be the way to go later. Great video, love the dry humour, it's almost British! 😎

    I've only just got Falcon. I've not tried Halion, but suspect things are similar there. NI have been lazy. Kontakt still feels like it did with version 2 15 years ago. You can do so much more with Falcon. Also, I'm loving Midi out. (I use Reaper, which means I can have multiple Midi out channels controlling multiple synths. And while the built in analog and wavetable oscillators aren't bad, being able to layer up Falcon's more sample-based oscillators with e.g. Serum, Diva, or Pigments, means that I can use Falcon as a single MIDI processor for all my synths. I'm especially stoked to get my hands dirty with the Lua event scripting.)

    Dude you have just said everything I wanted to say to Kontakt! I just don't understand why their such A-holes to the ones who actually pay their F'n bills. Anyhow, I just bought Falcon, And I must say, it is the synth/sampler that truly completes me! and I only have had it for a couple days. Not only will it be a Kontakt Killer, but also a Omnisphere Killer. However, the only downside, I read somewhere, it does not support Multicore CPU processing, IDK, I run it on a single track in Vienna Ensemble 6, which is networked to Logic X Mac and it runs very smooth. I have not noticed anything funky with CPU processing. I love the ability that is has so many multi-outs. Thanks for the great video.

    34:16 ADSR do not work in the "Program" level. So if you want to modulate a filter with an ADSR you should set that filter and its ADSR in the "Layer" level or "Keygroup" level ;-)

    • @Roderick_Legato
      @Roderick_Legato 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for that!! I was following along and my ADSR was _not_ working. Looking at his tweaks after he added the ADSR, I was pretty sure his was not working either lol. What's annoying is that Falcon shows the ADSR attached to the filter and there's not a single hint as to why it's not working.

    Watching this 5 years later because I'm trying to figure out if I want to buy Falcon (currently on sale), and I'd say that any decent synth is a Kontakt killer :-) except for a relative handful of unique made-for-Kontakt libraries (in my case, from Luftrum and a few other developers). And in that sense nothing can "kill" Kontakt, as long as developers keep making libraries for this non-resizeable archaic monstrosity.
    Still not convinced about Falcon though - if PhasePlant added per-oscillator keygroups, it might just be the best middle ground for me. As an old-time coder, I'd love to try Falcon for the many sequencers (each could and should be a standalone plugin, I'd buy them all) and for the Lua scripting, but the layers - upon layers - upon layers design isn't giving me a "use me, I'm fun" vibe :-)

    One or two lines of code in Python (depending on what you wanted to do with them) would probably not be realtime executable in main audio CPU thread (which KSP is) thusly you'd get glitches in your output most likely. Just FYI. :) Yes Python is really cool because of easy syntax and "magic one-liners" but the tradeoff is that it's not the most CPU efficient language out there (short of some superoptimizations like PyPy or Cython). Also it's not nearly as portable as Lua (which is why UVI went with Lua).
    Yes, KSP is proprietary, yes it lacks some basic programming constructs, but it IS extremely efficient. It's even more efficient than Falcon's Lua implementation, btw. So your implication that just because something takes more lines in KSP takes up more CPU is flawed. :) Also, scripting alone is NOT the reason for SOME Kontakt libraries out there "running like a dog". You have to take into account how the instrument is structured first, which FX are loaded and what exactly the instrument is doing (i.e. polyphony, amount of modulations, etc.). Sure, there ARE some extremely unoptimized scripts out there (8dio, Orchestral Tools), but there's also some super-lean ones when you take into account all the things they do (Spitfire).
    Disclaimer: I have done scripting on close to 200 sample libraries for Kontakt, and have also beta tested Falcon for several years, own it, use it, love it, but no it's not a Kontakt killer - the performance with large instruments is not at all comparable to Kontakt's.

But the plosives of your voice recording are kinda unbereable, i have an Eq in the Output of my PC so i can listen to music and videos for hours without fatigue, i lowered the 40hz region something like -18db and that supressed the voice plosives. I kindly hope in the next videos you use some plugin like Era plosive remover to kill those p p. Cheers (All the other sound in the video is excellent, its only the voice)

      I know I'm late but just a random opinion of another internet entity... the handful of people i talk to that use Falcon, still do. Falcon in my opinion is for when you have the time to sit down and design a bunch of stuff to use in the future, not for a project where you need things done NOW.
      The main "problem" of Falcon is its flexibility, depth and the learning curve to use it effectively. Its extremely easy to get off track and lose focus on a project you need to finish.

    Does it have big sample libraries like Omnisphere?

    Great video, thanks! Interesting stuff! Kontakt is a love hate thing for me as well. I love the libraries, I kind of hate Kontakt. ;) It just feels so clunky and heavy, if that makes any sense.

      Probably paid by ni to stick to their platform. Currently trying to find an alternative platform to create my sampled instruments

    I could see this being useful when making personal sample libs having a more friendly scripting language and all but I think on a development side, until we start seeing some banger UVI libs from the big developers its not really going to be worth developing for just yet on account of the industry as a whole being so used to working in Kontakt.
