Thanks for the invite to help. It was a lot of fun 😁
Thanks for the help Ian, think you should be the first to try the spinning chair 😂
That's one of the best TH-cam engine refreshes I have seen. Love it.
Thanks for the nice comment, I wasn’t sure if it was worth filming as this is a normal day of my life so just testing the water really 😀
Always amazes me when old gear like this fires back up.
I was pretty shocked myself 😂
As an ex-mechanic I have to confess I was doubting you'd get it going again - props to you sir!
I was doubting it just as much 😂
I find it so fascinating, what it would be like to spend a day in Dave’s brain, all that knowledge and cool/mad ideas flying round.
There’s loads more crazing things I have made and will be making 😀 glad you are liking it, just shows I probably should of started the channel years ago
Dead engine: is rotting...
Dave with wooden block: it's resurrection time!
I thought I was going to have to upgrade the hammer size 😂
Is it possible to cry and laugh with admiration?
The environment that you are getting this done in is…astounding. So glad you are bringing us along…and like you said…sometimes you just do it because “…it would be funny”.
It’s like a text book how not to fix an Engine video then at the end it runs perfect, I’m pretty amazed myself 😂
Mate, you're just a genius. There's no other word for it.
Thank you 😊
Love the water 'gloop' sound coming out of the middle piston (if thats what it is!) When youre truing to start her up!
Yes I think I missed some on my cleanup 😂
Some serious mechanical skills there Dave, and a wonderful attitude to problems (wish I was that relaxed!) No wonder you didn't bother winterizing it, probably took you less time to rebuild it! Very enjoyable video to watch
I have played with these engine for a long time, wait till I put the upgrades on it and increase the power 😂
One of the best “will it start” videos…I’d have bet the house that it wouldn’t have started!
When I was hammering the pistons for about 20 minutes I had just about condemned the engine, then it started moving! 😀
The fact you can get this running again is absurd! Great job!
Yes I was pretty surprised myself 😂
Good morning, Dave, I love how nature has taken over the dumpy with Alge and moss. Here in Oz, you would have found a couple of very large snakes living under the bonnet, along with large amounts of snake poo. I must admit, you will be very handy to have around for End of DayZ or the Zombie apocalypse. Cheers PS, I would love a dumpy, but down here they are like rocking horse poo.
I’m glad we don’t have snakes here, wouldn’t be working in the bushes if there were 😂 yes 20 plus years of working on my own in this yard has given me a good survival training 😀
Sports Dumper... Excellent!
Nice video, It was good to see how kind of simple that was to fix with the knowledge and how it works with the head off. Most people wouldn’t have a clue including me.
Glad you liked it!, I like the footage myself with the engine spinning over 😀
Really enjoyed watching that 👍👍👍👍👍
I think I condensed it down into a watchable video ok, most people leave too much footage on, I spent the actual video length hammering the pistons 😂
really cool love these videos
Nice work Dave 🏆
Keep digging
Yes I’m back on the tunnel again 😀
Dave is the guy that has spare parts for everything under the sun..
Had to nip out for the head gasket and was annoyed I wasn’t stocked up on them 😂
couple of nice old land rovers there. never douted the mighty 200tdi. nice work
Plenty of Landrovers here 😀 yes the 200 are so bullet proof
Brilliant, top notch bodging, we had a seized bodgeford with a 2 pot lister, 2 of us hanging off an 8ft scaffold pole on a socket bent the pole but it did free it in the end, my mate made some wizzard penetrating oil mixing ATF & Acetone, shoulda marketed that stuff proper alchemy better than anything I've ever used from a can lol
Yes I think of I had left it for a longer time with some fluids in here I could of possibly got it working, probably really was I couldn’t put the long pole on the front of the engine so thought it would be quicker to take the head off 😀
You're no Allen Millyard but it's certainly entertaining watching things get bodged together.
I genuinely didn’t think it would run so was doing everything as quick as possible just to prove I needed to swap the engine, was so surprised at the end how well it runs!
Loved every second of that awesome mate 😊
Good to hear as I wasn’t sure how the video would go down 😂
Thanks to Colin. He is the MAN! He got your channel here, keep it there. Great video!
Much appreciated! I was saying to Ian this video might not work, but delighted with the positive response so far 😀
Nice job getting the old engine firing again. Love seeing people putting the effort in to getting old gear working. This is another reason for following your exploits on here. Great work mate.
Thanks and I’m glad you liked it, I think the channel is better with a bit of variation even if it’s not for everyone 😀
nice vid Dave... thanks for sharing. :-)
Thanks for the nice comment, means a lot, and also means I can share more off topic content 😀
Reit good video!! Excellent stuff!! Nice 😎💪
Glad you enjoyed it 😀
It's ALIIIIVE!!!! Absolutely spot on!
Thank you, yes she runs well 😀
That was brilliant to watch! I'm so impressed with your skills. Thank you for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it! I was shocked it started myself 😂
brilliant work 💯
I liked that pristine engine rebuild more than the bunker 😂. Thanks for not leaving us hanging and actually driving it 👍🏻. I hope there will be more sandpaper engine revisions from the yard in the future! 🔥😆.
It’s hard on the tunnel to keep coming up with interesting things to film till I start the new bunker, I enjoyed this video as it was a genuine surprise when I got it running 😂
That genuine suprise is probably why it's so good 😉👍🏻! Cool to actually get a reply from a creator. Looking forward to the dig!
@@BenVeenstra I try my best to reply if I can as i like the comments coming in, the videos are made for the viewers and since I have no idea what I’m doing on here, the feedback is key to making the channel better 😀
When I started watching this video, I had Peter Green's 'Oh Well' playing in my head as background music ;-), could be your theme tune if copywrite allowed it, I do love the Project and I also Peter green's Fleetwood |Mac is one of my favourites, sorry to go off topic but I am in a happy mood, and now to continue watching. D
Yes it’s just a shame you can’t put decent music on the videos 😀
Found that absolutely fascinating such knowledge and skill, brilliant video
Glad you like it, would be classed as very rough by most mechanics but it worked 😂
very impressed
Thank you 😀
This man Really Is a 'jack of all trades' !
It’s basic survival skills when you live in a yard for 20 plus years 😂
I actually love this. This is full on me, absolute junkyard mechanic. My Moto... Persistence in mechanics always wins!
Thanks for the comment, I wasn’t sure if this would go down well for the channel or not but thought I would film it anyway and see the response 😀
@@Tornado_Dave Can confirm, great video 🙏
@@brader901 thankyou, hopefully can film more of my day to day activities 😀
I’ve learned some useful man stuff cheers
Good to hear 😀
Sounds better with no exhaust just have the smoke out the manifolds like a Spitfire, maybe even do v8 conversion that would sound good v8 dumper!
That would be cool! Maybe I should do that with the old 3cx 😂
That looked more fun and easier than swapping the engine, well done
Yes much more rewarding, I can’t believe how nice it ran afterwards 😀
That’s dumper is a bute, old school mechanical simple parts. A little bit of love and there’s plenty life left in her yet.
Yes I need to get all the other jobs done then she will be ready for the big dig 😀
I love this👍👍👍👍👍
Glad you are liking it 😀
Phenomenal 😎👍🤙
Bloody alternator is solid Dave. Look at the belt slipping 😂😂😂
Edited. You saw it 😂
Noticed it quicker when I watched the footage back 😂
We want to see Colin in the gravity ball 😂
Yes good point, better than me having to go in it 😂
Dave: do a live stream with some beer and stuff, so everybody that can and want. Can join the stream and drink together :D
Is there a way to restore the rust and such on the dumper to make it shiny and new looking? I think there's a huge TH-cam audience for restoration style videos like that
I’m sure there would be but currently I’ve got a big hole to start digging soon so for now I will be doing the basics 😀
Good Content Dave, but weher is the TBM there seams to be enought stuff around to build one.
Holy cow, there's a ton of water in that thing...
At least a tonne, skips still I’m good order surprisingly 😂
@@Tornado_Dave I have no idea what you just said lol I'm American so I don't know your lingo.
@@EpicATrain I mean the bucket/ skip/ front bit on the dumper carries over a tonne of water when it’s full or were you referring to the water in the engine 😀
@@Tornado_Dave The engine! lol 😅
Coming from someone with zero mechanical skills, this was like witnessing an actual resurrection. Incredible. 😂I bet that sludge smelled great when you dumped it though...🤢
Thank you, I know it really stunk when I tipped that out 😂
Looks like an old Thwaites dumper, brilliant company for parts is David Cornwallis
It’s a Benford but I’m sure the parts are similar
@Tornado_Dave completely missed the stickers on the side lol. Maybe L&S engineers or HTS spares then
13:15 Blimey mate she will be blowing smoke rings… Class 47 Diesel cold startup 😂😂😂
Think it was the badly sealing rings and valves but looked cool 😂
@@Tornado_Dave it did Dave lol 😂
Fuck me, that’s brutal! 😂😂
Roughest repair ever and runs mint 😂
@@Tornado_Dave needs must and risk vs revenue.
I reckon she’s worth doing up mate… maybe a job for Maximus Ironthumper or Steve at Yorkshire Car Repairs 😂😂😂
Yes tell steve at Yorkshire car restorations, love there videos 😀
@@Tornado_Dave yeah enjoying them doing Colin Furze Beamer
Good ol 200 engine the only thing tougher in the landrover lineup is the 2.25 from the series.
Yes I’ve got a 2.25 in my 2a, great engine 😀
@@Tornado_Dave I had one in my S3 until I pulled it apart and then lent the engine to someone who never returned it.
@@cmotdibbler4454 that’s a shame, what did you replace it with?
@@Tornado_Dave Unfortunately, I found it needed an entire chassis and it sits in bits behind my garage awaiting the day I get the time, motivation, and funds to rebuild it. I only ever seem to be able to have two of those three at any point.
Why's is called a "Sports Dumper"... Because its nimble, a sporty dumper?
Because the engine is about 5x more powerful and revs twice as much as the standard unit 😂
25,000 round Dave's for drinks?
I don’t think the TH-cam money will stretch to that 😂
If your gonna sell the dumper I’d be interested 😊👌
I got asked before but I just can’t part with her, especially now she has come back from the dead 😀
How about an electric motor and an extension cord? :)
It would need to be a long extension lead 😂
What sort of person uses a lump hammer? Surely a sledge hammer was the tool of choice?!!!😂
I was thinking the sledge hammer but wasn’t sure Ian would want to be holding the 3x2 😂
Alternator is siezed
Yes you can see it easier on the video than in real life, I had to wait till i noticed the smoke at the end 😀
ref-
Can't keep a 200tdi down
Best engine ever 😀
Cool I don't think the land Rover pursuits would be very happy with you because you put a land rover engine in a vehicle which isn't a land rover but who cares what they think.
I think some would like it because I’ve found a cool use for a landrover engine 😀
@@Tornado_Daveture
Your getting your money worth out of the wd40 can
I bought it on holiday at a filling station, cost me enough 😂
Whats with all the will it start vids. Every bodies doing one😂😂
Well I think it was a valid one, I needed my dumper working 😂
@@Tornado_Dave those old tdi engines never fail.
Might I recommend wearing a mask? Those particulates are gonna mess with you.
Yes It got pretty bad, the thumbnail Is of the video and I’m in the middle of that 😂
I dunno about other people but yapping in engineering speak about and engine is kinda boring. I come for diggy hole not technical details. Watching you work with timelapses, maybe a bit of music. An overview of whats going on like the sheet metal stuff is good.
Engine no workie, engine rusty, time-lapse, engine not rusty and workie. Move on.
Anyway, not trying to complain just what i would personally prefer in case you care.
I understand completely, that’s why I named it how it was as I didn’t want people thinking it was directly connected with the dig, more people have liked this video than the normal tunnel videos per view but I understand it’s not for everyone and the next video is digging again 😀
@@Tornado_Dave I love such content, there is alot of cross-over between what You did to date and this video (DIY engineering, problem solving etc.). This is impressive for noobs like me (I don't have education and resources to play like that ^^). Seriosly, some kind of Machine Spirit necromancy. One thing, I cry for this engine to be vacuumed at least ;) All the best!
