Vegetable Stock and My Bedroom Makeover Update

- Hello, friends -- In this episode we are making Vegetable Stock and baking a vegetarian Lentil Loaf (recipe below). Also, we are looking at wallpaper samples for a bedroom makeover. Thank you for watching!

Lentil Loaf Recipe
3/4 cup (157g) brown lentils
14.5 ounces (430ml) vegetable stock/broth
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 3/4 cups (150g) shredded carrots
1 cup (75g) chopped mushrooms
1 cup (100g) diced onion
1 tablespoon minced parsley
2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
1/2 cup (55g) cooked rice*
1 cup (100g) shredded mozzarella cheese
l large egg and 1 large egg white beaten together
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
6 ounces (170g) tomato paste
*I cooked my rice in the vegetable stock we made in this video
1. Tip the lentils and vegetable stock/broth into a small saucepan; bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat, and simmer, covered, until the lentils are perfectly tender -- about 30 minutes.
2. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Lightly grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan, and then line the pan with parchment. Lightly grease the parchment.
3. Warm the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the carrots, mushrooms and onion and saute until the vegetables are tender -- about 10 minutes. Off heat, stir in the parsley.
4. Transfer the vegetable mixture to a large bowl and let cool for 10 minutes. Then stir in the Italian seasoning, rice, cheese, egg mixture, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and lentils.
5. Pour the mixture into the prepared loaf pan. Spread the tomato paste over the top of the loaf. Bake in the preheated oven until set -- 45-50 minutes. Cool for 10 minutes before unmolding and slicing. - แนวปฏิบัติและการใช้ชีวิต

Hi Kevin, I have been playing your videos almost all day, I have enjoyed listening and spending time here, such a joy. Calleen below is right about Mr. Rogers, I used to LOVE watching him everyday as a young child and still do every now and then depending on the mood. Wow, beautiful wall paper, I used to love plying it when I was younger, it was so much fun (at that time), I thought the glue was awesome and loved how it felt in my hands as I was placing the wall paper up, back then we did everything by hand, not like they do today. Hope you have a great rest of your week.
Kevin, you have chosen wisely. The paper that’s your favorite is beautiful and will stand the rest of time as far as versatility. It will compliment any change in decor you may want in the future.
I started using the Instapot for soups also. The favor is identical to the long simmering soup but I do miss the aroma of a soup simmering in the stove.

Pineapple wallpaper is my vote. Then you could use the beautiful blue in the design for accent pieces or your bedding.

I save vegetables scraps in the freezer and when the bag is full, I make stock. It’s free!
For a bedroom wallpaper I would go with something very calming and neutral and not too dark. I might pick the blue and pink and red for a dining room.

My favorite is the “ornament and stripe”. It’s simple and unassuming yet a timeless classic. The pineapple pattern is nice, but I just don’t feel the pinkish rose color of the pineapple, especially for a male bedroom.

I love dragonfly wallpaper. Like the Grimshaw paintings of the late 1800's. I looked high and low for dragon fly wallpaper for my bathroom 5 years ago. And only a British company had one. Today, there is a better selection for dragon fly wallpaper. I found one in green you might like for your bedroom, and you could keep all the same color schemes you have like the bedspread, etc: Art Nouveau Dragonflies | Med Cool Green Wallpaper bysouthwind But they have different colors.

Hi Kevin, I absolutely love your videos. You gave such a kind and calming way about you. The bird in your music room wallpaper, I believe, is called a Woo bird. I have an antique chinoiserie mirror with a bird similar to that on it, and that's what the description calls it.

The pineapple wallpaper would be pretty in a dining room. A bedroom is soothing with a light background and a gentle, calm, delicate pattern. But that room, with those bright windows, would come alive with a fresh coat of pistachio green paint and artic white trim and finished off with several gold framed floral paintings. But then, the bed would need to be white too which might be a bridge too far in a remodel. Lovely room, so much could be done with it but different drapes could transform it as it is now!

I'd love to see some more papers. I think that a bedroom requires a peaceful look, similar to what you have in your foyer. It's so airy and lovely. The bolder papers work better in another room. Just my humble opinion.

I love the paper in the music room! I agree you need wallpaper in the bedroom but the pineapple paper will wake up the dead. Perhaps a little more subdued to create interest, yet a peaceful atmosphere that we all need to calm down our minds as we prepare to sleep. Hope you will find just the right one. Love!

While the blue/pineapple (horozontally hung) would be beautiful, I think it is very busy and would prefer a calmer pattern like the ornament and green stripe in the bedroom. Please not the bees - that chevron pattern would make me dizzy. Whatever you choose, I know it will turn out beautifully. Good luck - happy planning.

That stock looks good, Kevin! I always save the tops and tails from my onions, carrots, celery, squash and such, in a bag in the freezer, and use this to make vegetable stock. I'm on a very tight budget, and try not to waste anything! I'm looking forward to seeing more wallpaper samples, and can't wait to see your completed bedroom makeover! That lentil loaf looks wonderful, too! I'm going to have to try it!
Both pineapple papers are beautiful, I prefer the lighter warmer background but I think the blue version is nice and relaxing color for a bedroom 😊

I too like the wallpaper you chose. I too am glad that New York finally has some warm weather, however, yesterday (April 7) it was too cold once again. It is so interesting how so many people have similar tastes in decor. Thank you for sharing your recipes, home ideas, and gardening suggestions. Hi Kevin, I used to do the mason jar thing too but now - after several days in the crock pot I transfer the broth to a stock pot and cook it down A LOT. After it cools I put it in small square ice cube trays made of silcone and freeze these. I store all the cubes in a gallon baggie and take out what I need. It's pretty concentrated so I use one cube and anywhere from 2 cups to 6 cups of water, depending on what I am using it for. I always cook rice in broth for the added benefits as opposed to water.
