Here are all of my questions, I'll be glad if you answer just one:
    1. Why did Allen tell Tom to leave, suggesting Tom's hands were dirty too?
    2. Who killed Summer? I thought it was Will but a lot of people seem to think this was never resolved
    3. Why were Tom's hands cut in the beginning of the movie?
    4. What did the bite mark have to do with literally anything?
    5. Why did Wally shoot Allen?
    6. Who met Will at Eli's house/who killed Eli?
    7. Did Tom get shot in the hand at the end? I don't understand the wax scene? Maybe it was a metaphor but if so, what. was it suggesting?
    8. For the LOVE OF GOD what was the purpose of all of these scenes with the automatic faucet?

    • @Ghost-pz2vk

      1. Allen was sincere to Tom since he was dating his niece and hired Tom into the dept bc of his past but Allen was caught up in the departments wrong doings.
      2. Summer was killed by Wally.
      3. Toms cut was showing that he had old wounds metaphorically, as to what I perceive it as since the ending shows the metaphor of healing when he had wax on it which also answers question 7.
      4. The bite mark was from Wally- " When a dog bites it never lets go"..something like that.
      5. Wally shot Allen bc it was Allens fault for everything that happened, he hired Tom and had trust that he wouldnt mess it up, so he shot him.
      6. Pretty sure it was Dan, bc Will said im sure youve met him before...signifying that the only ones that knew Eli was only Tom and Dan.
      7. Refer to previous answer.
      8. Dont get your HANDS DIRTY!!!!

It was simply a metaphor to the entire film. Reptiles shed their skin to become anew. Paraffin wax is often used for healing purposes and once it dries and gets hard it peels off kind of like your "shedding your skin". It represented Benicio del Toro's character (Tom) shedding his past ways of allowing evil and corruption, as the movie hints at he was either directly involved with some bad stuff or indirectly was turning a blind eye and allowing bad stuff to go on. He was healing from his past, which the bite represented, and the paraffin wax represented that, as well as, with him finally shedding his past too. I think this was also tied into Summer's death and her finally being tired of doing evil stuff (they were planting drugs on people and stealing innocent peoples homes and land) and was ready to come clean and talk to the Fed's (shed her past and bad ways). Summer is seen in the beginning with the reptile scales tattoo and also sees a shedded snake skin before being murderd. The title was just a metaphor and also I think of many versions of the popular quote "keep the grass cut low, so the snakes will show". Unlike many movies, there isn't a single bad person/killer, almost the majority of the characters all around Tom were bad and "snakes".

Dumbest part about the movie was when the captain gets shot as he is climbing UP the stairs, but Benicio's character runs to confront the chief in the bathroom, having his back turned to whoever shot the captain.
It's like he heard the gun shot upstairs, and didn't have his gun readied at where the shot came from.

Another commenter said _"life and murder are rarely linear and perfect. The movie is more sophisticated than a Law & Order episode."_ I thought that was an interesting comment, which made me re-think my feelings on not finding out exactly who killed Summer, though there's a great argument to be made for it being Marty, the chief. The lady in the beginning said she saw a man with a hoodie walking with a limp, and we can see Marty walking with a limp at times during the movie.
Sometimes murders get solved but we never really get all the answers we want, and while not getting that closure in a movie can be annoying, I think it really worked with this film.

Who that was? As we see later on into the movie (about 01:36:00), when Will Grady visits Eli Phillips, he is accompanied by SOMEONE, who - according to Will - Eli already 'knows', which leads to Dan Cleary, since Eli 'knows' him as he was questioned by him and Tom earlier. The film director gives us so many clues and details, but watching this movie for the first time I’m sure you won’t recognize it or you won’t pay attention to it.
