    What a wonderfully phrased video. I’m an upcoming sophomore at UArts and never thought about how those in your situation had to deal with its closure. What I’ve taken from this experience and from the wisdom from our community is that UArts never made itself. We did. We laid every brick, built every shaky elevator, and put on every performance and event ourselves. You have an amazing and successful life ahead of you, as does every other student who was cheated out of a typical college experience. I truly wish you the best in your path forward ❤

      Sending you the best right now - I hope the rest of your college experience goes smoothly. This is enough turmoil to last the rest of your life LOL

    thank you for creating this video. it allows a lot of powerful insight. i am so so sorry for you and every other person impacted by the schools closing. i was supposed to start at uarts in the fall as a freshman theater design tech major. i've always had immense anxiety around college, and when i found uarts, it felt perfect. it was everything i wanted in a school. when they gave me an offer, i was quick to accept it, and i was so excited. when i heard the news, it felt like my entire future crumbled right before my eyes. these past couple of days i've been scrambling to see what colleges will accept an application from me. i've honestly never felt more discouraged in my life, but it's times like these that are so so important to artists to remind us why we do what we do. we don't do it because it's easy--we do art purely for the love of it and to share it with other people, to see the joy it brings other people. it is so easy to feel discouraged, but the arts community is a unique one that will always support others. i wish you all the best in navigating your future. you will be an amazing art teacher.

      I’m so sorry that UArts’s actions are affecting you at such a pivotal time in your life. If it’s any consolation, most of the schools I’ve reached out to have offered to accept a late application given the circumstance, regardless of whether or not they have a teachout program with UArts. It might be tougher for an undergrad student, but I wish you the best. You can do it!

    Hey! i went to uarts for my freshman year as an illustration major and now have to transfer to a different state. Honestly, the news was heartbreaking. I really did love this school and had an amazing time in my first, and unfortunately only year at uarts. Thankfully my family is supporting me and helping me transfer to a school in my state (mostly because of costs. uarts was out of state but was literally my top school out of the ones i was accepted into.) I was literally going to uarts for the 5 year program too. Its so unfortunate what happened here. I hope my fellow classmates are doing well and that the staff there finds stable footing as well.
    Edit: I really hope the best for you. Its horrible to hear about your struggle with the 5th-year program. I hope the best for you and I know you'll find an affordable school with the masters program you want soon. Sending love and good vibes from NY 💙

      @@starchild909 I have a screenshot of Edgar saved to my computer!! Since I had him freshman year (2020) on Zoom, I made a “Ralph bingo card” and the entire class would play Ralph bingo in the zoom chat. It had stuff like “the clock going off”, “daughter passes in the background”, “‘let’s bring this into photoshop’”, and “Edgar jumps on the table” LOL

    I am an alumnus (BA Music 00/MAT 01) who was supposed to be teaching a grad course for the School of Music this fall. I found out about the fact that UArts was closing for good when I turned on the Channel 6 10 am news. No email. No letter. No phone call. Not even a text message. I'm embarrassed to even be an alum now. I cannot imagine what the current students are going through. I'm going to be fine -- I have a career and this course was something I was going to do on the side mostly because I thought it would be neat. I have no idea what I would do in the students' shoes.

      A really weird “silver lining” is that most professors I talked to never got paid enough to have UArts be a reliable source of income and aren’t concerned about their finances in these upcoming months. I can’t imagine getting that dropped on you either, though, glad to hear that it won’t be affecting you outside of the WTF aspect of it all!

    Its nuts how they were hemorrhaging money when they were charging over $50k/year without housing per student. Something was definitely mismanaged. Art schools shouldn't cost more than $10k tops since degree in art school is almost meaningless since when you apply for a job all they care about is how good your art portfolio is. That's just from experience because I did have to go through bunch of applicants for potential interns and I didn't care where they went to school.

    • @sweathie
      @sweathie  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I can give my input that barely any students were actually paying $50k/year to attend UArts, a lot of full-timers got a $36k/year scholarship (myself included) on top of other, smaller, grants and scholarships.
      Housing, on the other hand, is where they definitely made their money. Freshman HAD to buy the most expensive meal plan- $7,080 for food ALONE. The cost of staying in the cheapest accommodations and downsizing the to the cheaper (but still insanely expensive) meal plan for all four years at UArts is ~77k USD.
      The reason I went to college in the first place instead of just strengthening my portfolio while working was to get K-12 certified, so it just feels like a kick in the face LOL. I’m just glad that I live close enough to UArts to be a commuter student all four years and not have to pay those exorbitant costs to live in a dorm room.
