This song is not about being happy with the time you have, it's about starting a revolution from below to overthrow the entire economic system. This is a straight up 'Eat the rich' anthem.

Every rage song is a history lesson. Even at the end when he was talking about "quiet peaceful dance" that is about when they abolished the right to protest for minorities. Andso they gathered for a "dance" in order to exercise their rights to peacefully assemble. And I love how you realize that man, truthfully. The wise man knows that he knows nothing, and that is the only true wisdom.

FACTS!!!!!! Socrates said something similar. Basically, true wisdom comes when you realize you know nothing.

Quiet peaceful dance also goes back to the Sioux nation vs manifest destiny. Lots of history in that phrase, all of it very violent.

@@richardlandrum1966 Zach is so deep I've been rocking this since it dropped. It has caused me to read and learn a lot and I STILL learn from their lyrics all the time. Thanks for the insight!

My favorite line in this song, "Bosses broke south for new flesh and a factory floor/The remains left chained to the powder war" -- referencing how American buyers of cocaine and crack (sold by the CIA and cops) created the drug cartels in Mexico and Central America. Many of the educated and well-off Mexican people migrated to the US, leaving poor working class people. That era also saw a huge shift in manufacturing jobs and factories moving to Mexico, where the people who couldn't run away from the cartel violence lived in poverty and accepted pennies compared to US wages. Which was great for the US economy, not so great for workers living north or south of the border.

And it also ties into the previous line that talked about the "In the ruins there's a network for the toxic rock/School yard to precinct/Suburb to project block" so perfectly. It really shows what the "War on Drugs" is all about.

This song is one sic bar after another!!!! BARZ
Zack is the master of the repeat. He will repeat that shit until it’s almost to the point of annoyance, but it makes you stop and REALLY listen. Zack’s like YOU WILL HEAR ME!!!!!!! I think he’s at his most powerful with this at the end of “know your enemy” when he repeats “all of which are American dreams”
You should check out some of their live performances from the pinkpop festival. Their energy is insane and you can see that Zack means every bar, he is passionate about their message. Zack don’t play!!!!

You need to do Bulls on Parade. It is about how the Government preaches family (They rally round the family) while the same government ignores poor schools and neighborhoods and then spends BILLIONS on the military. (With a pocket full of shells)
The people in power are like untamed bulls who are on parade.
    They rally round the family
With a pocket full of shells.
    Bulls on Parade.

there is a very specific reason why bands like Rage and System of a Down aren’t as readily available to wytppl - it was truly educating us late gen x/early millennials on things we’d not have known of. I am the activist and ally that i am because of nwa, wutang, tupac, rage, system of a down, Tool etc etc etc
and this is why they take away the arts first - because it’s the most organic way to unite people

Also check out the video for the song 'Sleep now in the fire' from back in 1999 no joke the have a dude in the crowd with a sign that said "Trump for President" ....these guys tried to warn us about the future but nobody listened!

Zach is unapologetic in what he says and his opinions, he has no fear of speaking truth to power and the system…… every song is him speaking for people who have been fearful of speaking their opinions…
I’m a white dude and every song makes me so fucking mad, and I love seeing people of color listen to him for the first time and say so boldly so unapologetically with out holding back what they feel they can’t say… Don’t bite your tongue don’t fear speaking your mind if your truly know you’re in the right.
We’ve all been programmed to be complacent and just shut up and not speak up, the more of us that are like Zach the better we will be as society.

There are 4 kinds of Rage fans
The first kind has no idea what's being said
The second says "I like the music but disagree
The third group (also the scariest) know all the words, but twist the meaning to fit the machine's narrative
The rest of us knew this was the most important band of Gen X USA.
Keep listening, keep reading, keep learning ✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽✊🏼✊🏻✊️❤️

Zach de la Rocha, lead singer is mainly Mexican-American with general American melting pot stuff, from L.A.
He's not trying to be black.
He's trying to get a frickin msg across.
