PLOT: In this animated feature, canine casino owner Charlie (Burt Reynolds) is killed by gambler Carface (Vic Tayback), but returns to Earth from heaven thanks to the powers of a magical, rewindable watch. Charlie sets out to take his revenge on Carface by means of an elaborate plan that involves an orphan girl, Anne-Marie. But as the plan progresses, Charlie discovers that Anne-Marie is being exploited by Carface. Charlie must decide whether to change his mission from one of revenge to one of rescue.

As a kid, you don't think much of Anne Marie's ability to talk to animals. As a grown up, you start realizing how she's extremely lucky to have it because she must've had such difficulties to try to interact with other humans. There's no way of telling how her background must have been like before & after Carface took her in.
R.I.P. Judith Barsi (1978-1988), Burt Reynolds (1936-2018) and Dom DeLuise (1933-2009).
That's what I was thinking. Unfortunately Judith didn't have to go so soon.

Anybody else think Anne Marie looks and acts like a kid version of Snow White? Even the ragged dress looks similar to the one she wore in the beginning of the film.
I do except Anne Marie’s eyes and hairband and bow are a different color.
I do and Anne Marie was able to talk to animals for crying out loud. No wonder Carface needed her, to know who would win the ratrace. Charlie, on the other hand, was no better especially after using her to be able to open a casino. Which later Carface burned down and beat my boi Itchy half to death.

My favorite scene from one of my favorite movies as a kid...and I can't watch it without a huge tinge of sadness because the adorable little girl that voiced Anne-Marie, little Judith Barsi, was murdered by her own father months after this was made. As a father now, it always haunts me hearing her sweet voice in this film knowing what she was going through in real life.
And she only 10 years old. She was murdered along with her mom as well. To think she was also the voice of Ducky in The Land Before Time.

I’m aware and it was pretty sad and I heard it was because the dad was jealous of her success. She was a sweet little girl heaven rest her innocent 😇 soul.
I heard she broke down during the set of this film. The poor child.
Poor Judith, her character, Anne Marie was so funny in this scene along with Burt and Dom. It’s a shame that we never heard her sing in the movie due to her father’s abuse.
I only watched this movie to remember Judith Barsi. 😢 RIP

This was a trick of the well-known ''Totem Pole Trench''. Two or more children (or just short people or non-short people) pile up, one on the other's shoulders, and don a flashy trench coat (and usually a fedora hat) over this pyramid to make them look like an adult or a tall man. Usually a perfect costume. A common gag involving this trope would be for the person at the top to ask for something like "Two tickets, I mean one, please." An unfortunate untimely sneeze from one of the participants will cause the entire pyramid to collapse at the worst possible moment.
Her actress dealt with a such terrible life, sad that none could adopt her.

Actually that's not how I saw it, they probably thought out of respect for her that her character was not to appear in the series again. Also if she did, it would lessen the impact of the sad scene at the end of the movie.

Anne Marie scratches Itchy's back to help with his fleas. That went over my head long ago as a child.

That's pretty much all there was to it. He's an old horse, past his prime, so had no chance of winning normally. It was his birthday, so they made it special for him by letting him win.
It took me all these years to realise Grand Chawee technically cheated though unintentional.
The two snobbish horses actually shoved him to the finishing line so technically Charlie won the bet unfairly.
Technically, Grand Chawhee did nothing wrong. The other horses deliberately threw the race to let him win, because it was his birthday. I don't think he asked them to do that. So that's on them, not on him.
